Not really, a bit of crew/shore maintenance fail is better than some fundamental flaw in the design/manufacture of the engine.
Its not awesome but its fixable.

If you have no crew capable to perform simple daily routine maintenance, you have no use of engine, radar, gun...…. So yes fail in training of crew is biggest possible problem.

Re: Project 21631: Buyan-M missile ship
It was in syria since a long time. A small ship operated that far and that long will have those sort of issues. Maybe towing was cheaper solution than using a plane or a ship to bring only oil and then use its own propulsion to go back

The context seems to be more like an area that gets filled with grease then closed up, so you wouldn't normally notice if its not greased.

This is eehenie level of delusion
Even if they had to load An-124 with nothing but lubricant it's still better than towing it back
Luckily for Russia one more NATO vessel tried to have intercourse with a tanker again at the same time so this clusterf**k flew under the radar

Byuan M has 4 diesel engines and the currents in the Bosphorus straight are as you can imagine very strong. Most likely one or two engines are down or the gear box assembly can transfer power from only some of the engines.
This whould explain why it needs assistance going through Bosphorus but it can sail on it own once in the Black sea.

Gearbox should be enclosed in steel casted shell, that has a pump moving oil from the bottom cannister to the top. Its not like guy runs around with greaser and sprays the gear wheels...

Yes but if someone forgot to put the oil/grease in there before sealing it up...

Latest cruise missile corvette accepted for service in Russian Navy
The latest corvette Orekhovo-Zuyevo armed with Kalibr cruise missiles has been accepted for service in the Russian Black Sea Fleet
SEVASTOPOL, December 10. /TASS/. The latest corvette Orekhovo-Zuyevo armed with Kalibr cruise missiles was accepted for service in the Russian Black Sea Fleet in a solemn ceremony on Monday, TASS reports from the scene.
As was reported on Friday, the warship completed state trials and arrived for the first time at its permanent base in Sevastopol. The solemn flag-raising ceremony was held aboard the warship on Monday. The warship will make part of the Black Sea Fleet’s 41st brigade of missile boats.
As the Black Sea Fleet’s press office reported, the warship’s acceptance for service is part of the plans to modernize the Fleet. Before the end of the year, the St. Andrew’s flag is due to be raised aboard the new patrol ship Vasily Bykov. In 2019, the patrol ship Dmitry Rogachev, the ocean minesweeper Ivan Antonov and a fast-speed amphibious assault ship of a new Project are to enter service with the Black Sea Fleet.
The missile corvette Orekhovo-Zuyevo is a multipurpose warship, the seventh in the series of Buyan-M vessels and the second built for the Russian Black Sea Fleet. The warships of this class are designated to protect and defend the state’s sea economic zone.
The warships of this Project feature larger displacement of water and are equipped with the latest Kalibr-NK long-range precision weapons designed to strike naval and coastal targets.

mainly about the ceremony but also has some updates on progress/eta for the other ships:
So 8th has actually been launched, should presumably be on the way down-river soonish then, 9th should be launched fairly soon if its going to be in service in 2019.in construction at the Zelenodolsk plant, the MRCs of this type are “Ingushetia” (factory number 638, was laid down on August 29, 2014, and launched in spring 2018) and Grayvoron (factory number 639, was laid down on April 10, 2015). Putting them into operation the Navy is expected in 2019.
...
Zelenodolsk started construction of the MRC Grad (factory number 640, laid April 24, 2017), Naro-Fominsk (factory number 641, laid down on February 23, 2018) and Stavropol (factory number 642, laid July 12, 2018). Now putting them into operation the Navy is expected in the years 2021-2023

ok so how many Kaliber capable Byuans will be built for BSF? AFAIK 6 + 6 Karakurts this gives 48 launch tubes for Kalibr/Yakhont/Zircon missiles. IMHO should be enough to take down CSG in foreseeable future.
AFAIK in Soviet times 2x949 salovs with Granits without nuclear warheads, was to take down the whole CSG.
BTW oldies but goldies (2016)

.
Small missile ships of the project 21631 “Buyan-M” will equip the new radar with an active phased array and the Pantsir-SM anti-aircraft missile and cannon complex, which will provide the highest level of security. On this Monday, October 10, reportedNews with reference to a source in the Navy

Not sure if we can trust wiki, but it states BSF will get 10 Karakurts and 3 Buyans...the last 4 Buyans unknown fleet. Maybe someone here knows where they'll go?
BTW there are also 6 Improved Kilo submarines with up to 4 Kalibrs each and 3 Grigorovich frigates. So best case scenario would be 20*8+6*4=184 tubes
More than enough for Turkey and other neighbours. + beyond comparison with Baltic fleet, even Pacific. Perhaps a signal of ramping up future presence in Mediterranean

I was trying to imagine 2 salvo of 949 granits. Would be pretty impressive.
Which is by the way possible with actual VLS and lot of ships. 3 or 4 lider plus 1 mod. Kirov and all other gorshkov, super gorshkov, steregouchy, missile boats and subs like converted oscar with 72 vls and other imp kilo could bring the total ready to launch VLS to 1000 for northern and pacific fleet each.

Well except for the fact that they probably never made that many Granits... Remember there were Vulcans and Kh-22Ms as well...
