Not sure if this has been discussed before, but i must ask are there plans in Russia to develop Thorium-based NPP and why did the Soviets continue to use uranium NPP when the Thorium option was presented??  Neutral

Rosatom set for building 40 nuclear power units abroad

The Rosatom State Corporation’s package of foreign contracts now includes 20 generating units, and about 40 more are under consideration, the head of Rosatom, Sergey Kirienko, told President Vladimir Putin at a meeting on Thursday

“Since the Fukushima nuclear power plant disaster we have doubled the number of orders, whereas the market as a whole sank somewhat ,” Kirienko said.

Dont know if this refferes to existing NPP in Bushehr or the new one that is in plan in Bushehr too but interesting.

Russia may build new nuclear power blocks at Iran's Bushehr

    New work in Bulgaria

Russia may get contract to work on Paks NPP in Hungary

The €10 billion investment could be recovered in 15 years and Hungarian suppliers could get 20-30% of the contracts, Rosatom said

This is even bigger deal than one could imagine ... WOW WOW  russia

    - Tomorow Hungarian president Viktor Orban will meet with Russian President

    - Theme of the meeting will be increasing the capacity of Hungarian NPP Paks (by more than a half - at the present four Russian reactors provide 2 GW of energy)

    - price of the contract is 4 trillion forints ($18.32 billion)

Hungary PM to meet Russia's Putin, nuclear deal likely

    - another theme will be new gas contract because old one expires in 2015

Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked

This is so insanely big that must be a typo.
Even 2 power plants (let alone 2 reactors aka blocks that the article says) don't reach this sum. 2 pp should be about 6 billions and 2 reactors about 1.5-2.
    Need further confirmation.

According to 2012 Moscow Times, Hungary was looking offers from 5 participants. It included funding and expanding existing NPP Paks for 3 new GW.

Speculated price during 2012 was 12.4 bin $. I guess Russia would than completely own a brand new NPP and sell electricity to Hungarian people.

Rosatom Wants to Revamp Hungarian Plant

Hungary needs big, new electric plants to augment an aging fleet of power stations, and the government is expected to issue the construction tender this year for up to 3,000 megawatts in new nuclear power capacity at the Paks site.

Rosatom would be willing to fully finance the new construction, which is expected to cost about 3 trillion forints ($12.4 billion), the paper cited Rosatom deputy director general Kirill Komarov as saying at Atomexpo, a nuclear power trade fair in Moscow.

Anyway 12.4 bin $ during 2012 /and/ 18.32 bin $ during 2014 -> THIS IS IT. Hungary president Viktor Orban will tomorow hold a press conference so we will know.

    I like Orban.
He gives the middle finger to the EU, gets subsidies from them anyway, and signs big business deals with Russia.

The deal has been struck !!!!  russia

Russia, Hungary agree to build 2 new power units at Paks NPP

And how much will it cost ... well

Russia will give Hungary a loan of ten billion euros

Moscow will give Hungary a state loan in the amount of ten billion euros for the construction of two new nuclear reactors "Paks." On this, as reported by RIA Novosti , said the head of "Rosatom" Sergey Kiriyenko.

And the talk is on to resurect plans for Bulgarian Belene NPP construction. Plans that has been obstructed by previous governments for idological reasons.

SOFIA, January 14. /ITAR-TASS/. Projects such as the South Stream gas pipeline and resurrected plans to construct the Belene nuclear power plant were foundations for resetting relations between Russia and Bulgaria, the Balkan state's foreign minister told Itar-Tass in an exclusive interview.

The finnish single VVER-1200 will cost more than 7 bn$
    http://ru-facts.com/news/view/29791.html

So the price seems not far from reality.

Those deals in the heart of the EU are great also for the implied geopolitics: they instill fear in the rivals. I'm referring to the Grybauskaitė and Basescu like guys.

Actually this deal was not about tender. It was given to Russia by Hungary. Tender was not necessary because it is considered as an expansion of existing NPP.

Nevertheless US/French and Japan companies where interested in taking part.

This 7 bn $ is for a whole pp and not for 2 reactors in a per-existing infrastructure, and even them come with a 70% overprice which can't be explained only
by EU overegulations , protectionism and anti-nuclear policy.

Something IS fishy here. I hope is not bribes which might eventually give Russian projects a bad name equal to what German projects got.

Keep the fingers crossed for another major deal ....  russia   russia

Sergei Kiriyenko to make working visit to Jordan

In 2013, JAEC summed up the results of an international tender for building the country's first nuclear power station (NPS). A win was awarded to the Rosatom's bid. In the final of the tender's procedure, Russia's State Corporation competed against an NPS project of the Franco-Japanese consortium Areva-Mitsubishi

Hopefully things will resolve faster than anticipated several years

Construction of 1st NPP in Vietnam postponed for several years

“Apparently, the beginning of the NPP construction will take place in several years, not in 2014, as it had been earlier planned. It has been caused by the Vietnam legislative procedure peculiarity,” the expert said. “Negotiations on the project implementation stages are very actively conducted. Russian experts are determined to accelerate the project implementation pace, but the Vietnamese side needs more time to settle all the internal questions linked with the NPP creation,” the expert explained.
