Till now, each new S-400 regiment is supplemented with two additional S-300Favorit batteries. In time as S-400 batteries add up in numbers more and more S-400

batteries will form a regiment but not yet because as of now in a situation where number of Senezh command posts despite replacement still form majority of all command posts the best way

to optimize rapid growth of Russia AD potential is to replace Senezh with 55K6 and Baikal/Akacia command posts where situation is the most critical making your way upwards in time.

    Few interesting details about S-400.

    1. At first there was an debate about whether 40N6 even exists and while some have doubts even now it is evident that 40N6 exists

    2. Than we believed what we where told all along that S-400 can guide 12 missiles on 6 targets and now we know that that number is MUCH higher and S-400 can guide

20 missiles on 10 targets Very Happy (It took awhile for them to acknowledge but we got there)

    3. And now something also interesting - we are all aware about the ceiling of S-400 as 30km and now that too has begin to change

Fourth S-400 missile defense regiment put on combat duty near Moscow — Defense Ministry

S-400 Triumf (NATO Designation SA-21 Growler) anti-aircraft systems can engage targets at a maximum range of up to 400 km at an altitude of 40,000-50,000 meters.

Apparently older S-400 (one that entered service during 2007) could guide 12 missiles on 6 targets which only speaks about the scope of S-400 growth and I believe we have not

    seen last of it.

The systems, which are capable of launching up to 72 missiles and engaging up to 36 targets simultaneously, entered service in 2007 to replace the S-300 systems.

I could be that one more S-400 regiments enters service by the years end Very Happy

I suspect experience and solutions for the S-500 will no doubt benefit future models and upgrades of S-400 and indeed S-350.

Russian defense this week stepped up two regiments of "Triumph"

The Russian army this week received two sets of regimental air defense missile systems S-400 "Triumph". One sent to the troops Aerospace Defense and the sky will protect the capital, the second will be based on the Kola Peninsula and stand to protect the northwestern air borders.

So we missed the second S-400 regiment delivered this year because it was being done in a matter of day or even hours but nobody reported it so clear up to now.

"This is the fourth anti-aircraft missile regiment troops EKO, which is equipped with S-400" Triumph "and provides air defense of Moscow and the Central Industrial Region," - said A.Zolotuhin.

    and

A day earlier, it was reported that anti-aircraft missile system S-400 took over guard duty northwestern air borders of the country. Kola air defense brigade of the Western Military District reinforced regimental set of anti-aircraft missile systems S-400 "Triumph", "Interfax-AVN" head of the press service of the district Colonel Oleg Kochetkov.

"This is the first set of S-400, entered service the air defense forces of the Western Military District. After the completion of the complex range tests C-400 will be deployed on the basis of the Kola air defense compounds. Calculations will carry on combat duty for the protection of air borders in the north-west of Russia," - said the officer.

and the GRAND FINALE (one more S-400 regimental set by the end of the year just like Vladimir Putin said at the end of 2013)

"The early performance of their obligations under the state defense order becomes a kind of calling card Concern PVO" Almaz - Antey ". By the end of the year we will give the state the customer is another set of regimental S-400" Triumph ". Thus, the Russian Defense Ministry will receive the first time just three regimental set for the year, "- said Ya.Novikov.

    S-400 Deployments

Last week Interfaks-AVN wrote that the Russian military just received two “regimental sets” of S-400 / Triumf SAMs.  They make numbers seven and eight.

One became the fourth “regimental set” of the 4th Aerospace Defense Brigade around Moscow and the other is bound for the 1st Aerospace Defense Brigade on the Kola near Northern Fleet headquarters at Severomorsk.

The Kola brigade is the first in the Western MD to have the S-400.  It falls under the Western MD’s 1st Air Forces and Air Defense Command.

The other three of the eight are the 3rd (Kaliningrad), 7th (Novocherkassk), and 12th (Nakhodka) Aerospace Defense Brigades.

Almaz-Antey General Director Yan Novikov told the Interfaks-AVN that, for the first time, the Defense Ministry will get three S-400 “regiments” in a single year in 2014.

TASS reported even earlier last week that Almaz-Antey will deliver the ninth “regiment” will before the end of December.  It will be the first three-battalion regiment, and is destined for Kamchatka, or the 14th Aerospace Defense Brigade (Yelizovo).

In September, the commander of PVO and PRO for VVKO, General-Major Andrey Demin told TASS that 12 “regimental sets” of S-400 and 72 Pantsir-S would be procured by 2020.

Does that mean there are no S 400 deployments around St Petersburg ? Seems strange that the second largest metro area in Russia with vitally important industrial, academic, and shipbuilding assets would not receive any S-400.

Well...apart from wiki (which got that information from former website warfare.by) no one mentioned St.Petersburg / Vaganovo.
The equpiment there could be S-300PS as well (two Btn).
On the other hand it makes sense to protect the vital SSBN bases first (Murmansk area & Rybachi Kamchatka).

Regarding Moscow: if it is true that the 4th RGT will be assigned to 4th Aerospace Defence Brigade than it will be either the 584 AD RGT (Selenograd Region) or the 612th AD RGT (Kubinka Distr) because the other two RGT of that BGD (210th and 93rd) are already equipped with S-400. My guess is 612th because it would protect the south of Moscow (still missing) with S-400.

S-400 missile defense systems reinforce military forces in eastern Russia

For the first time military forces will receive S-400 air defense missile systems not with 16, but with 24 launchers

MOSCOW, November 25. /TASS/. One more unit in Russia’s Eastern Military District was armed with modern S-400 Triumf air defense missile systems, chief press officer of the military district Colonel Alexander Gordeyev said on Tuesday.

“An air defense missile unit in the Eastern Military District is about to complete rearming to modern S-400 Triumf air defense missile systems,” Gordeyev said, noting that staff of this unit was having fire drills at a special fire range in Russia’s Volga River Volgograd Region and after that missilemen will go to a permanent base.

Air defense system-producing Almaz-Antey concern said last week that the eighth S-400 regiment consignment had been handed over to the Defense Ministry ahead of time and the company was preparing to make a ninth missile supply before the end of this year. For the first time military forces will receive S-400 air defense missile systems not with 16, but 24 launchers in December, a source in Russian Defense Ministry told TASS.

S-400 Triumf (NATO Designation SA-21 Growler) anti-aircraft systems can engage targets at a maximum range of up to 400 km at an altitude of 40,000-50,000 meters.

The systems, which are capable of launching up to 72 missiles and engaging up to 36 targets simultaneously, entered service in 2007 to replace the S-300 systems. S-400 Triumf is designed to shield from air strikes, strategic, cruise, tactical and operating tactical ballistic missiles and medium-range ballistic missiles.

Russia currently has S-400 regiments deployed near Moscow, St. Petersburg, near the port city of Nakhodka in the far eastern Primorye Territory, in the Baltic exclave of Kaliningrad and in the Southern Military District.

Supplies of new, upgraded types of weaponry and hardware to the Russian Armed Forces are growing. By 2020 the Russian Armed Forces will have at least 70% of advanced weapons.

I have a serious question I must ask about the S-500 ABM system...is it possible with the existence of this system that it allows Russia to completely circumvent the current START treaty? You may be wondering what I'm talking about considering how the S-500 ABM is a completely defensive system, and how it relates to a treaty directed towards the offensive nature of ICBM's and strategic warheads, but we have to ask a serious question here...what will be the 'targets' that will be used by the S-500 system (and their trained personnel) to test and train against?

To maintain 'high-state' of readiness for Russia's strategic aerospace defense forces, the S-500 system would actually have to test against 'realistic targets' aka real ICBM's but with inert warheads. I'm going to stop beating around the bush and say this...is it possible that Russia has (by the time at least '10' S-500 regiments have been established) hundreds if not thousands of additional strategic ICBM's that are not bound by any treaties because they come in the form of 'Test ICBM's'? Is it possible that a simple and quick re-configuration of those 'test targets' be capable of making them in to the real thing? On the same line is this also true about the 'realistic ballistic targets' used to test against the S-400? The S-400 is said that it's capable (with a high interception probability) to take out IRBM's with a 3,500 km range...for that to be true the system would have to be able to intercept realistic 'Test IRBMs' with a range of 3,500 km's. Does the existence of the S-400 and it's 'ballistic targets' allow Russia to circumvent the current INF treaty with measures that I already previously mentioned?

Some might find fault with such a scenario, they might find the possibility problematic due to the fact that it's not enough to have the ballistic missiles, because you'll also need the corresponding warheads too! Conventional means of secret and rapid proliferation of thermonuclear warheads may prove to be several times more difficult due to current treaties, and the corresponding inspections, oversight, and transparency required by the IAEA. But here Russia may have 'struck gold' and found a convenient 'work-around' and loophole around current restrictions around thermonuclear warhead proliferation. Russia has successfully developed fast-breeder reactors that are capable of taking spent fuel-rods and depleted uranium and turning them back in to viable fuel materials again. The new fast-breeder reactors are the very definition of 'dual-use' technology that Russia is actually pioneering the world in! Not only will they be very useful in industrial modernization, and infrastructural development of Russia's Far East, they'll also be useful when it comes to rapidly producing tactical and strategic warheads from the abundance of spent fuel that they 're-enriched'.

The US has put the nuclear warheads from decommissioned missiles in storage. I though Russia, thanks to comprador Yeltsin, set on a course
of actually reprocessing them into reactor fuel. Maybe Putin woke up and smelled the coffee back in the early 2000s and launched
a program to stockpile warheads in a balance-maintaining move against the USA. Russia has an unknown number of tactical nuclear
weapons, which drives NATO planners mad. This program could use them as a cover and in fact, the warheads that Russia would
want are in this size class.

The S-500 will use the same ABM missile types as developed during the 1960s, deployed around Moscow and further refined. When
the nutcases in Washington finally launch their "final solution to the Russian problem" war, Russia will need to field everything that
can it defend itself with. This means deploying small ("tactical") warheads on these ABM systems. Just like the Americans will be
doing on their ABM shield missiles, regardless of any yapping you may hear.

Any pretense of normalcy between Russia and NATO is now dead. I think the gloves are off and we will see moves where Russia
secures itself for the coming assault. Soft power has no chance to work against Russia, especially not after the NATO sponsored
slaughter of Donbas residents by their quislings in Kiev. NATO had already concluded that the attempt to stage a colour revolution
would go nowhere after the flop of the "rent a crowd" demonstrations in late 2011 and early 2012. NATO has no real hooks with which
to latch into Russia. So it went for not-so-soft power options.

Its attempt to grab Crimea failed and it clearly does not want the Kiev tar baby considering it has not given the regime any serious
money and shows no intention of doing so. This outright proxy war activity on Russia's borders is not going to slow down. There
will be escalation as Russia pushes back.

what will be the 'targets' that will be used by the S-500 system (and their trained personnel) to test and train against?

Likely obsolete ICBMs and SLBMs that were to be destroyed anyway.

is it possible that Russia has (by the time at least '10' S-500 regiments have been established) hundreds if not thousands of additional strategic ICBM's that are not bound by any treaties because they come in the form of 'Test ICBM's'?

No. All ICBMs are ICBMs and are bound by the new Start treaty. Of course a Proton rocket is not an ICBM and could simulate an ICBM or satellite for the purposes of training too.

for that to be true the system would have to be able to intercept realistic 'Test IRBMs' with a range of 3,500 km's. Does the existence of the S-400 and it's 'ballistic targets' allow Russia to circumvent the current INF treaty with measures that I already previously mentioned?

No. they have a range of weapons that can be used to simulate various target types including SLBMs and ICBMs.

The new fast-breeder reactors are the very definition of 'dual-use' technology that Russia is actually pioneering the world in! Not only will they be very useful in industrial modernization, and infrastructural development of Russia's Far East, they'll also be useful when it comes to rapidly producing tactical and strategic warheads from the abundance of spent fuel that they 're-enriched'.

the widespread introduction of fast breeder reactors means that if Russia suddenly needs a lot of nuclear warheads they will have the capacity to make them fairly rapidly... including tactical nuke warheads.

Maybe Putin woke up and smelled the coffee back in the early 2000s and launched
a program to stockpile warheads in a balance-maintaining move against the USA.

AFAIK material removed from Russian nuclear warheads decomissioned under the new start treaty has been sold to US companies to convert into fuel for civilian reactors.

the development of fast breeder reactors should allow the Russians to rapidly build up nuclear weapon stocks if need be.

As suspected Russia got during 2014 not two but three S-400 regiments with 7 S-400 batteries ..... Very Happy russia

A source could not not be more reliable: Very Happy

    Sergey Shoigu:

Air Force received 142 aircraft, including 53 multi-purpose complex aircraft Su-30 and Su-35s, Su-16, 34, 28 transport and training aircraft of various brands, upgraded 18 fighter-interceptors MiG-31BM, 135 helicopters, including 46 72 combat and airborne vehicles, seven anti-aircraft missile systems S-400.

    and thats not all

One of the most important ways to increase the combat capabilities of the Armed Forces is their re on modern military equipment. This problem was solved in terms of import substitution. In the Army brigade delivered two sets of operational-tactical missile systems "Iskander-M", 294 modernized tanks, 296 other armored fighting vehicles, two anti-aircraft missile air defense system of the Ground Forces C-300V4, about 5,000 units of motor vehicles.

Meaning Russia received two S-300V4 regiments or an entire S-300V4 brigade (4 batteries or 2 regiments) was also received.

That would mean that Russia during 2014 year alone received 11 battery lvl sets of 400km range SAM systems russia

I believe we are talking about 9 or 10 regiments in service by now meaning 18 or 19 regiments to go by 2020 meaning 3 or 4 S-400 regiments per year up to 2020 guaranteed

+ S-300V4 brigade / year up to 2020 too Very Happy

Than add S-350, Buk-M3, TOR-M2U, Pancir-S1, Pancir-SM, S-500, Morfei, Verba and you get the picture russia

I dont know what do you mean "units"?

For instance common S-400 battery delivered to Russian PVO consists of 2 S-400 batteries or 16 S-400 launchers.

The lattest S-400 battery delivered consisted of 3 S-400 batteries meaning 24 S-400 launchers

Maximum number of batteries per regiment is (8 for Russian and 6 for export)

Maximum number of regiments per brigade is 2 (for Russian and export)

Each battery can have max 12 launchers.
