Very interesting system.

First appeared and showed during the LIMA 2013 military exhibition. I noticed it but had no clue what in the hell was that.

Well now thanks to Dima we know.

'Talisman' - ECM System by 'Defence Initiative' (Belorussia)


 
   

Work on the creation of "Talisman" was carried out in the period from April 2007 to July 2012. The prototype of the "Talisman" is the electronic countermeasures equipment "Satellite" which is produced by 558 aircraft repair plant in g . Baranovichi ( Belarus ).

"Satellite" is designed to protect aircraft from guided missiles ( aircraft and anti-aircraft missiles ) to a radar guidance system in the frequency range of 8.0-10.0 GHz (wavelength of ~ 3 cm). The equipment of "Satellite" is included in the program of modernization of the Su-27 and is in service by the Air Force of Kazakhstan.

Development BKO "Talisman" to ensure the protection of aircraft from guided missiles in the frequency range 4,0-12,0 GHz (wavelengths of ~ 5.3 cm)was completed in January 2011.

In April 2012, completed the development and testing of the BKO "Talisman" that protects the aircraft from air defense systems in the frequency range 12.0-18.0 GHz (wavelength of ~ 2 cm).

Developer and manufacturer of BKO "Talisman" is OOO "Defence Initiative", Minsk ( Belarus ).

The state defense order for 2013 Complexes "Krasuha 4" is made entirely

Excellent, this will improve air defense capabilities.

So were 4 or 2 units delivered ? What does two sets mean ? What exactly are the capabilities and function of this system ?

Sets = battalion sets of ECM equipment. 

During 2013 Russian Army received 2 battalion sets of Krasuha-4 and now has 6 sets overal because system production started in 2011 meaning KRET production capacity is enough to 

pop out two battalion sets per year.

Anyway capabilities and function of this system is to blind JSTARS/AWACS/Rivet Joint/ units of the enemy forces but also fighter radar, comunications, smart bombs and missiles up to 

few hundered kilometers away etc. They work within Russian radar units as part of PVO.

Are Krasuha-2 and Krasuha-4 delivered together or in different sets? How many of them both they got?

How many units make up a battalion ?

How would an F-16 deal with proximity fused munitions?

Besides unlike the US the Russians tend to make systems for all branches, so their navy, army, and airforce all have systems that in the US only the air force would have.

The Russian Army has better SAMs than the US AF, while the Russian Navy are introducing missiles that are even better.

Lots of new military stuff we know nothing about is entering Russian Army. 

Well, here is another one of them: Moscow-1. I suspect its (beside being iteration of Russian passive radar) actually a command system for Russian ELINT and ECM/ECCM radio troops. 

Up to 2016, 10 Moscow-1 systems will be delivered to Russian radio troops with the price tag of 107 million $. 

Concern "Radio-electronic technology" has begun shipping the newest electronic warfare systems "Moscow-1" for the Russian armed forces

"Newest complex using modern digital technology allows for the passive radar to scan the airspace to detect and transmit data to other systems on the enemy electronic warfare and air defense and aviation, driving them to neutralize and destroy targets. "


Ground complex "Moscow-1" is intended for conducting electronic intelligence, management of radio interference and jamming (REP). The system allows you to scan the airspace and detect vehicles equipped with radioactive elements and enemy projectiles in the passive radar, ie picks their own radio waves, and then transmits the data to other media or EW systems, air defense and air force to neutralize and destroy targets.



So complex Moscow-1 does:


- electronic intelligence (passive radar up to 400km)
- managment of radio interference
- jamming 


Besides being passive radar system it apparently has its ECM/ECCM conponent too as the complex is comprised of:


- 1L265E control station
- 3x 1L266E radar jammers mounted on Kamaz trucks.

- 45 minute deployment time
- -40/+50 °C

KRET introduce a new set of electronic warfare 2016

Newest electronic warfare complex "Moscow" mode allows passive radar to scan the airspace to detect and transmit data to other systems on the enemy electronic warfare. "Moscow" is able to simultaneously manage nine air defense complexes.

And more advance version of the complex Moscow in development (yet we know nothing about this one) named "Divnomore" (Дивноморье)

Russian military makes strides in electronic warfare

The threat of the fifth element - and few points:

1. Moscow-1 complex delivered recently was the first out of nine ordered by Russian MoD


2. Use of ground based ECM in a form of 

  - protection from cruise missiles/PGM etc 

(Imagine a missile attack on any object in the Russian territory. It was nice to see several missiles are getting closer to the goal. And then somewhere in the distance a mile, like an invisible wall stumbled on a protective dome, one after another, they began to explode in the air. However, representing the display of a new technology specialist Vladimir Mikheev immediately explained that the effect of a collision with a solid wall - an illusion. In fact rocket bearing, in their direction immediately sent a powerful radiation flux of ultrahigh frequency (UHF), and at a greater distance from the attacked object means guaranteed enemy attack destroyed or completely evaporate.)

    it is intended to replace Pelena ECM and Topol-E but also intended to cover space based asstes although Krasuha-4 is able to do that.



5. Fight with the company "Russian electronics" to provide 100% electronics for the systems (which are as of now 82%) - it takes lots of time and money to check all imported parts
