aying that demographics are destiny, is not without a base. Also, SU was at the forefront of many scientific achievements and breakthroughs (space race, militarily, etc). Geopolitically, it was a counterweight to US hegemony and had a very powerful standing among many countries in the world. Modern Russia has a more modest approach, that is dictated by new realities. Which is fine, as overextending own resources would lead to many internal problems. wrote:
Russia is a superpower. Of course, it has less weapons than the USSR. By contrast, the power of the US is also much smaller than at the end of the Cold War. The US is much weaker now. It is Russia that now has the most modern nuclear arsenal with brand new missiles and SSBNs. A significant advantage in tactical weapons and their means of delivery. Their navy can now carry hundreds of cruise missiles for conventional strikes. The USSR didn't have that. The same strategic air force currently performs precision conventional strikes. With hypersonic weapons, even more devastating.
In the case of weapons, they have prepared next-generation systems in all aspects. Their MIC is much more efficient and creative than the American one. So their main competitor is not the same as the US of the late 80s.
As for the demographics. Russia currently has 147 million people. Add to that Belarus, which is in the Union with them and they have integrated armed forces. It will be 157 million. Adding to this some Ukrainian citizens who will settle permanently in Russia, it will amount to 160 million. The question is how many people will come to Russia from the annexed territories of Ukraine? It could be around 10 million if not more. So Russia will ultimately have over 170 million citizens. This is not the USSR of course. Demographics is, of course, their greatest limitation. Today, they are already the 5th economy in the world, with many sectors developing. For example, the amazing development of agriculture incomparable with the USSR. In many ways, they become more sufficient than the USSR itself.

Consequences of "arrivals" at a Ukrainian airfield with Su-24 bombers and MiG-29 fighters.
”
Took Russia about a year to strike those, but as they, better late than never.
It means that Ukraine was probably using them for spare parts and Russia has HUMINT there, otherwise it wouldn’t be targeted now

Isn't that the airfield in Ivano-Frankovsk?
It was struck a year ago already.
Maybe they just give them a second hug,as some parts could still be used or something.
Edit : that is something.

Looks like Mrs. Kim was serious by saying they will be always in the same tranches where the Russkie are ...
Not sure how shitty or not the source is, they are set to say garbage about North Korea anyway.

From their FAQ section about funding: "A large portion of Daily NK’s funding sources is in the public sphere. One of our biggest donors is the US-based National Endowment for Democracy (NED)"...ALAMO wrote:Not sure how shitty or not the source is, they are set to say garbage about North Korea anyway.
So not super reliable I'd say, but who knows...it's weird that they try to insinuate that soldiers will be sent, but "not mercenaries" and the order is supposedly to construction companies, so if true we'd be talking about workers for the rebuilding effort.

I hope they follow suit with parked aircraft all over Ukraine, HUMINT shouldn't be necessary, it's a no brainier.

Ukraine has reportedly restored power supplies in many places outside Donbass and Kherson. Fewer attacks on infrastructure. The EU has supplied a lot of generators, some power stations are being repaired.

I am sure they will strike again soon. Those generators cannot move trains which is the real reason for striking the power plants.

The response is not pathetic. But it will not some attack on a NATO airfield or logistics hub.
Russia will liberate more and more areas/regions from the Nazis. This will be the response.
If NATO insists Russia will put her border guards on the eastern borders of Poland and Romania (again).

Well u might say that.
BUT most on here said Russia would never look to liberate large chunks of the Pukraine.
And now 5 oblasts (mostly) are part of Russia.
With more targetted for reunification.
And the whole Pukraine targetted for deNazification/demil/geniuine "regime change".
I think its all 8 yrs too late. And Putin himself has formally said so and apologised for it.
Soooooo.....
Putin is slow to act. But when he does act, he hits hard. Even if it looks difficult to some.
He also gives clues in advance. I identified one in Nov 2021. When he gave a subtle hint that waiting for the Ukrainian "people" to come to their senses is pointless - because its under a dictatorship.
So to me the question isn't whether Putin will do something. But WHAT will Putin do.
Cyberattacks? Arming Iran/separatist groups/N Korea vs America? Supporting China in some way?
Hitting US infrastructure with "plausible deniability" to the public, but a clear payback/threat to the US security groups?

@Hole,
Left to right, if someone needs a guide :
Ch-58, Grom, Ch-59, Ch-101, Ch-22(32?)
The one in the background I can't recognize. It can me some derivative of Kalibr, maybe R-500?
Soooooo.....

Russia was not in the shape and condition to hold this war in 2014. They would wipe out the Ukrainian army. And what next? Insurgency fuelled by NATO. No alternative business direction. No income. No fuel/gas production and storage allow finding the alternative. No coalition of friendly countries that would support them. Russia AD2014 would bend in max 3 years, starting with food shortages.

Aaaaah ... Right!
They used to call it Ch-59MK2.
I remembered the "2" mark and applied it to Grom-2
Edit : a material from Krasnoye, north of Soledar.
Just an ordinary Ukrowehrmacht field tranche after the artillery did the job and Wagner boys came for cleaning.
https://t.me/DonbassDevushka/43170
Not very gore, yet ...
It is full of fallen Ukrs. Full. The vocal is beeped when he is using bad language, yet he comments on the foxhole that is full of them, too. Even worse than the tranches.
Films like that might give our English speaking folks a perspective on how much fuked' is the propaganda served daily basis. There are several like that, each day. Each bloody day. And that is only what was filmed and uploaded ...
Edit 2 : and Nikolaevka was taken, too. More north from Soledar. That makes Krasnoye, Sakko&Vanzetti and Nikolaevka a today's trophy of the musicians. They are half the way to Seversk from the south.

North Korea sending military personnel to Russian-controlled areas for reconstruction is not really that surprising. DPRK men are conscripted for 8 years but the large majority end up working in state military industries after the first couple of years. Just as they send so many workers to Siberia for logging operations, this will be an important source of cash for Pyongyang. And sending them to the Donbas is a lot different than a few hundred miles north of their own border, so it's understandable they will want to sent security personnel rather than civilians.
Western media keeps trying to make cooperation with the DPRK scandalous, but it isn't.
