Egypt buys German anti-aircraft missile system SLM with IRIS-T missiles

As the German newspaper Rheinische Post reported, the German government approved a contract for the sale of seven ground-based SLM medium-range anti-aircraft missile systems to Egypt by the German company Diehl Defense GmbH & Co. KG. KG (part of the Diehl group). Egypt thus became the first known customer of the SLK in the execution of Diehl SLM. Developed by Diehl Defense with the financing of the Ministry of Defense of the FRG, the SL / SLM complex uses as a surface-to-air missile the modified IRIS-T guided air-to-air guided missile IRIS-T with an infrared homing head equipped with a more powerful engine. The range of the missile in the version of the missile from the vertical launcher reaches 40 km, reach in height - 20 km. Earlier this complex in the simplified version of SLS was ordered in small quantities by Sweden (the delivery should be started in 2019) and Norway. The German Armed Forces are planning to use the missiles of this system to integrate into the proposed MEADS air defense and missile defense complex.

The Egyptian SLM complex should additionally include a multifunctional target detection and tracking radar, the type of which is not yet known. In the initial tests, the Saab Giraffe (in particular, AMV) radar was used as part of the complex, but in 2014 demonstration firing was conducted with the Australian multifunctional radar CEA Technologies CEAFAR with AFAR (in the version for this radar system the radar was designated GBMMR).
