Su-30 for Russian Air Force

First 3 Su-30SM handed over (or to be handed over very soon?) to the VMF's Black Sea Fleet! Another 2 in acceptance trials. They go straight to Gvardeyskoye, replacing the old Su-24s there, right?
Also IAPO plans to deliver the planned aircraft (just Su-30SM or the Yaks too?) for this year by Nov. 15, ahead of schedule.

I for long time wonder why Su-34 and Su-30SM doesn't have MAWS sensors. But I find this picture of Eurofighter, which use radar type of MAWS, not IR or UV type. Considering new Flankers use new RWR sensors on wings and tails, older spaces are now free to install similar radar type MAWS complex and Su-35 most probably have both radar and IR type of MAWS to be even more secure against incoming missiles in case of jamming or bad visual condition. Su-34 and Su-30SM are not stealth planes, so radar type MAWS, which not see that far away, will not compromise them.

Actually there are no Eurofighters with MAWS in service only "Tranche 4" model aircrafts which are unpurchased so far have them, same as IRST.

The picture show British Typhoon FGR4. I don't know, if this is tranche 4 Eurofighter. However, position of MMW pulse doppler MAWS radars in Eurofighter in the wing leading edge and in the back, indicate, that new Flankers (SU-27SM, Su-30M2, Su-30SM and Su-34) could use similar MAWS complex in their wing leading edges and in their stings as they have new RWR sensors on the wings and on tails. If they don't have optical MAWS sensors, that doesn't necessary mean they don't have any.

I'm not really convienced by radar based MAWS, i doubt they can outperforme optical UV/IR spectrum MAWS which have about 15km+ detection range, i doubt those little pulse doppler radar sensors have enough power to beat 15km and ATAM missilse are freakish fast and you need all time you can get and the earlier you detect a threat the more time you have to react.

Difficult to say. Radar based MAWS could not be compromised by any weather condition and work equally day and night. In my opinion it could be same effective as IR/UV MAWS. Maybe they are just easier to install in places of older RWRs in Flankers.

Russian Air Force received a new batch of Su-30M2

mack you spoke of something like this happening few days ago. Any numbers?

The insiders were mentioning about borts 70, 91, 92, 93 being transferred to VVS soon, but only bort 70 was confirmed as a Su-30M2. It wasn't clear if the other 3 were also M2 or perhaps Su-27SM3. Perhaps all four are M2s after all?

PS: Looks like there are 4 Su-30M2 delivered today, bringing the total so far to 12.

I suppose red 70 will go to Krymsk, while blue 91, 92 and 93 will serve in far East regiments.

The rumour mill goes that 70 will indeed go to Krymsk, but 91, 92, 93 might go to Belbek in Crimea (which will also allegedly host Su-27SMs).

Btw, i know there are some VVS Su-27Ps detached to Crimea, does anyone have a link to images of them, and any other details, like how many (there should be 20 by the end of the year, but how many are there now), what regiment are they from etc.

I hope there will soon be some pictures of them.

Anyone know, if those new Su-30SM and Su-35 in Domna and Dzemgi air bases have or will get hangars for them, or will be stored outside? They are expensive and have sensitive electronics, so it will be good to store them in warm and dry places, when not active.

They have talked about upgrading a lot of airfields, so I would suspect they will upgrade fields with new and upgraded aircraft to protect their investment.

This photo is from Su-30SM cockpit. I would like to ask what is the function of LCD display system on the left side panel? Is it for autopilot programing? For control of on-board systems? The same LCD have WSO in right side panel.

Being a multi function display it could be used for a range of things... fuel management, weapon management, navigation... the position suggests it would be information that is not critical all the time but something that needs to be checked from time to time... like weapon information... preparing weapons for launch, or for navigation, or engine or fuel management...

3 Su-30SM and 3 Yak-130 delivered to RuAF

Russian Air Force received another batch of Su-30cm and Yak-130

Great news, the number of Su-30SMs delivered should be rapidly heading towards 30 by now (i lost count!)?. Unfortunately, the Yak-130 deliveries seems way behind schedule this year, hope they can somewhat catch up if possible.

Thanks to Berkut, here they are, Su-30SM are borts 21, 23, 26. Can't see the Yak-130 borts though.

I wonder how many Su-30SM were already delivered this year? On the photo we could see red 17, 18 and 19. I think IAPO plan to deliver 21 Su-30SM this year.

Maybe it is just me, but Su-30SM really remind me on F-14.
