I did not lay many hopes in these projects anyways, but it surely is a shame they might be terminated.

All of this may change if the economy changes. As well, once the launch center is complete, there will be additional funds no longer tied up for more projects.  Added, now that Roscosmos is a company, they can launch their own projects and such.

We shall see. At first we were told no heavy rocket, now we are told a heavy rocket.

Also, Austin, you gotta remember than exchange rate makes no difference anymore.  If you taken the budget listed and x2, that would mean $60 billion for 10 years.  As example.

Meanwhile the European Union will launch a probe to mars without Russia.

Meanwhile, the European Space Agency (ESA) is planning to launch the first part of its ExoMars mission on March 14, with the Trace Gas Orbiter (TGO) taking off on a seven-month journey towards Mars to look for sources of methane.

Mr Putin the shorsight president needs to stop thinking in cooperation with their "partners"
in space. and kick his own ass real hard ,and start developing a robust space programs that goes beyond a taxi to the ISS. Cutting the budget on their Space program is the most ridiculous and stupid thing they could have done..and giving up in Mars and Moon ,unless Europe goes with them. Thats totally stupid. Russia will never be taken seriously ever as long it continues depending in the west and not showing that Russia is a leader that can truly be an alternative to US in space and technology development.

I find this kind of funny actually. If Europe goes to the Moon or Mars, no one will give a crap... It's just the way it is. Europe is rapidly committing suicide, so any long-term space goals they actually manage to achieve, as doubtful as that is in itself, will only be seen (rightly or wrongly) as a temporary success, especially by the American crowd. However, if Russia went by herself at some point, before the US, it would be widely seen (again, especially by the American crowd) as a clear indicator as to just how good their space programs are in terms of technical prowess, and a big "up yours" to the US.

Planetary probes are secondary priority, new launch systems and manned spaceship are primary and I am glad Russian authorities see it too.

Once you have rockets, spaceports and ships ready you can do whatever you want with scientific missions. But only after!!!

If Euros want to do Moon or Mars with Russia right now then no problem. But otherwise new vehicles and infrastructure come first.

Date of Russian Cosmonauts' First 2016 Spacewalk Revealed

Russian cosmonauts are set to conduct their first spacewalk this year on February 3.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The first spacewalk in 2016 from the International Space Station's (ISS) Russian segment as part of Russia's Extravehicular Activity (EVA) program is set to take place on February 3, the Russian Mission Control Center said Thursday.

"The first spacewalk of the Russian EVA-42 program will be conducted from the Pirs module and is scheduled for February 3. It will be performed by Yuri Malenchenko and Sergei Volkov. The program of operations [to be performed] on the ISS surface is currently being discussed," a source in the center told RIA Novosti.

The first US EVA program spacewalk in 2016 will take place on January 15, according to NASA. The European Space Agency's astronaut Tim Peake and NASA's Tim Kopra will replace a tripped current-switching device after a short circuit destroyed one of the station's eight electric lines in November.

Malenchenko, Kopra, and Peake left Earth on December 15 aboard a Soyuz TMA-19M spacecraft launched from Kazakhstan's Baikonur Cosmodrome. Volkov had already been stationed at the ISS. The NASA EVA will be Peake's first spacewalk.

    I got a question:

Now that Roscosmos is classified as a company and can seek contracts and what not, what do you think will happen with the small manufacturers of satellites in Russia like Sputnik?  I figure they either cooperate in producing cheaper satellites and miniture ones, or end up getting bought out.

    Interested what you guys think.

I thought Roscosmos was not in the satellite manufacturing business. Maybe it will start buying up such companies but that seems like
a rather significant change in focus.

It is I am just curious what their plans are. What will be the major changes? Will they actually seek out contracts with third parties on their own, as well as do their own R&D away from whatever government needs? It will be very interesting what will happen.

Russia to Launch New Resurs-P Satellite on March 12 - Manufacturer

Russian Space Systems company said that launch of Russia's Resurs-P No. 3 remote sensing satellite has been scheduled for March 12.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The launch of Russia's Resurs-P No. 3 remote sensing satellite has been scheduled for March 12, the Russian Space Systems (RSS) company said Wednesday.

"In the current year, another four remote sensing satellites are planned to be launched. Among the spacecraft are Resurs-P No. 3, Kanopus-V-IK, Meteor-M No.1 and 2, and Elektro–L No. 3. The launch of Resurs-P No. 3 is planned for March 12," Russia's space corporation Roscosmos department of automatic space systems deputy head Valeriy Zaichko said, as quoted in the company's statement.

A remote Earth sensing system will be created on this basis in 2016, the statement added.

The Resurs-P satellites possess hyperspectral and stereo spectral image recording capabilities with an accuracy of up to 10-15 meters (30-50 feet). The new Resurs-P No. 3 has been under construction since 2012. In December 2015, the satellite was delivered to the Baikonur Cosmodrome.

The spacecraft has been designed by the Russian Space Systems company to update maps, aid the work of Russia's Natural Resources and Environment Ministry, Emergency Ministry and the agricultural, fishery and hydrometeorological agencies.

The Russian Space Systems joint-stock company designs, produces and operates space information systems. It is a subsidiary of the state-owned United Rocket and Space Corporation, which is currently merging with the Roscosmos state corporation. The RSS is responsible for running and developing the Glonass satellite navigation system, as well as running hydrometeorological services, providing radio engineering services for space exploration, operating ground receiving hubs and conducting remote Earth sensing.

In Russia is being created a robot that can become a member of space station crew

    http://tass.ru/kosmos/2665228

"One of the works and one use of combat robots, it is not only the battlefield, it is, above all, space", - said Dmitry Rogozin

KLIMOVSK /Moscow region/, February 13. /TASS/. Work has begun on the avatar creation (remotely controlled robot), which in future can become one of the crew members of the Russian national space station. This was announced on Saturday by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin.

"One of the works and one use of combat robots, it is not only the battlefield is first of all space, - said Deputy Prime Minister. Today is set to work on creating avatar, which will be one of the crew members of the future Russian national orbital station".
Rogozin said that such a development will allow without a special space suit to go into space and under the control of the operator-cosmonaut protected, to make particularly complex operations on Board the spacecraft. "In General, we believe that humanoid robots with computer vision and artificial intelligence perspective, this is no fairy tale, this is what we actually are moving systematically in order to create not only weapons capable of defending Russia, but also civilian technologies that will enable us to become a great country not only by physical power but also in its unique intelligence," - said Rogozin.
He noted that one of the driving started technical progress is laziness and the other is envy. "From sloth had created the wheel because I was too lazy to walk from laziness had created machines, all kinds of elevators, etc., ironically added Rogozin. But we are tired of be jealous of to leading American laboratories, based at the University centers, which makes robotics unique".

He stressed that if the Russian defense industry today makes the best combat aircraft in the world, we can make robot for civilian use. The Foundation for advanced studies has demonstrated two prototypes. One of them is technological model of the end portion anthropomorphic platform, designed for fine manipulation in gauge, Supervisory and Autonomous control modes. Remote control of the platform is performed from a control suit that reads the fine motor skills of the neck, shoulders, wrist and fingers. This creates the effect of presence of the operator at the place of action. Saw a mock-up showed the skills of driving. Another development is the anthropomorphic platform, designed to handle systems of dynamic equilibrium, dynamic and challenging step of coordinating manipulators. The platform is simultaneously operated and automated programs. This platform drops restores its upright position without operator intervention. Its objective function is associated with subtle manipulation tool with various objects and vehicles. Shows the sample with the operator simulated the operation of the welder

Russia's Roscosmos Space Agency published a video on YouTube revealing sounds of the cosmos.

Various sounds such as those emitted by pulsars, the Sun, Jupiter and its moon Ganymede, black holes, the Aurora Borealis and interstellar space have been recorded by Roscosmos with the help of special radio telescopes.

Russian experts said that these sounds can't be heard in the conditions of the space vacuum. For example, solar flares, the collision of asteroids and explosions of stars occur in complete silence.

Rosatom will help to reach Mars within 1.5 months

MOSCOW, 2 Mar — RIA Novosti. Nuclear power installation, created in the Russian Federation jointly by Rosatom and the Russian Federal space Agency, will allow us to reach Mars within an unprecedented short period of time — about one and a half months, said the General Director of Rosatom Sergey Kiriyenko.
"Today's installation space allow us to reach Mars within a year and a half without possibility to return back and without the possibility of maneuvering once they are accelerated further and are on the path," — said Kiriyenko on Wednesday, speaking in the Federation Council.
"The installation of a nuclear engine will allow us to reach Mars within a month and a half and come back, because it retains the ability to maneuver," — said the head of Rosatom.
