Land-based anti-aircraft missile systems on Egyptian ships such as Mistral
During the joint French-Egyptian naval exercises "Cleopatra 2017" held from 8 to 11 July 2017. On the L 1020 Anwar El-Sadat (Mistral-type) landing ship that took part in them, the Egyptian Navy saw an original air defense system in the form of four ships loaded onto the flight deck and the infantry combat vehicles of the US land-based short-range antiaircraft missile system Boeing AN / TWQ-1 Avenger (using Raytheon FIM-92 Stinger anti-aircraft missiles).

Re: Egyptian Navy: News
Egypt received a second submarine built in Germany
August 8, 2017 in Kiel, Germany, the ceremony of transferring to Egypt's Navy of the second built for them at the shipyard Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft (HDW), a part of the German association ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS), diesel-electric submarine S 42 project 209 / 1400Mod (Egyptian board number "862", building number 448). It is reported that the boat will soon leave for Egypt and arrive in Alexandria tentatively in three weeks. This boat became the 66th submarine of the family of the project 209, built in the world since 1970.
An intergovernmental agreement with Germany on the construction of two submarines for Egypt of the project 209 / 1400Mod for Egypt was signed in November 2011, the contract value is 920 million euros, while the construction is largely carried out against the loan guarantees issued by the German government for the amount of 700 million euros. The practical implementation of the agreement was somewhat delayed because of the political events of recent years in Egypt. In 2014, an intergovernmental agreement was concluded on the construction of two more submarines of the same type for Egypt by 2021. The construction of all four boats is carried out by HDW at the shipyard in Kiel.
The 209/1400Mod submarines under construction in Egypt are equipped with a traditional diesel-electric power plant. The head Egyptian submarine, by agreement of 2011, S 41 (Egyptian airborne number 862, building number 448) was launched in Kiel on December 10, 2015, entered the factory road trials on July 25, 2016 and was transferred to the Egyptian Navy in Kiel 12 December 2016. Boat S 41 arrived in Egypt in Alexandria on April 19, 2017.
The second Egyptian submarine of this type S 42 was launched on December 5, 2016 and entered the factory test trials in March 2017.
It is reported that 533-mm torpedoes DM2A4 / SeaHake mod 4 have been ordered by Egypt from the German company Atlas Elektronik as the main armament of these submarines. The boats will also be armed with US anti-ship missiles Boeing UGM-84 Harpoon Block II.
In 2016, there were reports of negotiations between the governments of Germany and Egypt regarding the possibility of ordering Egypt by two or even four submarines of this type.

Re: Egyptian Navy: News
Egypt commissioned the head corvette project Gowind 2500 and received a corvette from South Korea
September 22, 2017 in Lorian (France), a ceremony was held for the transfer of Egypt's Navy head corporation El Fateh (board number "971") of the Gowind 2500 project to the Navy Group, the French Naval Group. El Fateh became the first serial ship of the Gowind project line.
The contract for the construction of four corvettes of the Gowind 2500 project for the Egyptian Navy valued at about 1 billion euros (excluding the cost of purchased missile weapons) was signed by the French shipbuilding association DCNS (now the Naval Group) in July 2014. According to the terms of the contract, the head corvette was completely built in the DCNS arsenal in Lorian. Three other ships should be built with the participation of DCNS (Naval Group) at the Egyptian naval shipyard in Alexandria with delivery in 2018-2019. The contract also includes an option for two more ships, which, in the case of an option, will be built in Lorian. However, information on the conclusion of the contract for the exercise of the option is still absent.
The ceremony for the construction of the head corvette El Fateh for Egypt was made in Lorian on April 15, 2015, the official laying ceremony was made on September 30, 2015, the ship was launched there on September 17, 2016 and entered the factory sea trials on March 13, 2017.
In turn, on April 16, 2016 at the Egyptian state shipyard Alexandria Shipyard in Alexandria, the ceremony of the first steel cutting for the second (the first under construction in Egypt) corvette was held, although the program for the construction of these ships in Egypt is hampered.
The corvettes of the Gowind 2500 project for Egypt are sufficiently large for their class ships with a total displacement of 2,600 tons, having a length of 102 m and a width of 16 m. A diesel-electric power plant with a total capacity of 10 MW includes two diesel engines and two electric motors. The speed of the full course will be 25 knots, and the range of navigation - up to 3700 miles on 15 knots.
With a staff of 65 people, the corvettes are able to receive 15 more people (for example, special forces, which can use two quick-release 6.5-meter semi-rigid motor boats).
The armament of the Egyptian corvettes consists of two four-container missile launchers MBDA Exocet MM40 Block 3, 16 vertical launchers of the MBDA VL MICA anti-aircraft missile system, a 76 mm Leonardo (Oto Melara) Super Rapid artillery mount, two remotely controlled 20 mm artillery mounts Nexter Narhwal, two 324-mm three-tube torpedo tubes for torpedoes MU90. The helicopter can accommodate a helicopter to a 10-tonne permanent-basing class (probably, in fact, the Egyptian Navy will use Kaman SH-2G Super Seasprite).
Radioelectronic armament of Egyptian corvettes is made up of SETIS ASBU (similar to that installed on FREMM type frigates), an integrated PSIM mast with Thales SMART-S Mk 2 three-axis radar under the fairing, Thales Vigile 200 REF and a Lacroix Sylena Mk 2 firing jam. The anti-submarine capabilities are provided by the EAS Thales Kingklip and the towed GAS Thales CAPTAS 2.
Egypt became the second customer of the promoted Naval Group (DCNS) family of corvettes Gowind, after the conclusion in late 2011 of a contract worth 2.8 billion dollars for the construction of six corvettes for the Navy of Malaysia. Malaysian ships are built with the assistance of the Naval Group at the Malaysian shipyard Boustead Heavy Industries Corporation Berhad (BHIC) Lumut Shipyard in Lumut. The main Malaysian ship Maharaja Lela was started there by the end of 2014 and launched on August 24, 2017, its commissioning is expected in April 2019.
In addition, on September 22, 2017 in South Korea, an official transfer to the Egyptian fleet as a gift from the South Korean side of a corvette PCC 763 Jinju (type Pohang), derived from the Navy of South Korea, was given to the Egyptian name Shabab Misr (board number "1000"). Our blog already reported this ship.
It is expected that both the Egyptian corvette (El Fatheh project Gowind 2500 and the former South Korean Shabab Misr) will arrive in Egypt on the Day of the Egyptian Navy on October 21, when the Navy will be officially put into operation.

Re: Egyptian Navy: News
According to Egyptian resources, the construction of a covered complex for the basing of submarines of the Egyptian fleet was finally completed at the main naval base of the Egyptian Navy in Alexandria. The basis of the complex is an indoor slip-basin, which has a length of 302 meters and a width of 85 meters. The floor area of the slipway is 26180 square meters. The deepening of the pool is 10 meters. It is claimed that this is the largest construction of this kind in the Middle East region.
The total size of the complex is 509 by 300 meters. The complex also includes warehouses, workshops and training classes for the training of personnel of submarines.
It is reported that the complex is optimized for the basing of the 209 / 1400Mod submarines under construction for the Egyptian Navy in Germany. The head-built submarine of this project, S 41 (board number "861"), arrived in Alexandria on April 19, 2017, and the second S 42 boat (board number "862") - October 18, 2017.

That's a ww2 era design. Best design for a sub is the water drop like kilos. Total waste of money. German are not even reliable exporters since they are US dogs and very restrictive concerning weapons unless you are israel.

It is an interesting mix of new and old really... I mean the new ships look good and the new helicopters look very nice, but then they have AKMs and AT-3s... not that they are bad, but both were used in 1967... over 50 years ago...
Is Egypt looking at new rifles and new ATGMs, or are these used by their naval forces because of their reliability and suitability for the role and land forces have newer models?

Egypt do have a wide range of ATGMs like TOW-2 ,Kornet,Milan2 ,swingfire ,hellfire and Metis-M.
AT-3s is a cost philosophy , if you need to attack a light or intermediate armored hardware ,no need to use a high cost missiles , an old upgraded one semi-automatic command line of sight (SACLOS) guidance , will do the needed result .
Its range is 3000 m with an average speed being 120 m/s and penetrate about 500mm of armor (the serbian version penetrates 1000mm) ,fitting it on a vehicle or a hel could give you a lower cost firing cabability .

Well that is quite sensible and practical. I suspect in real combat the vast majority of targets these weapons will be used against don't require any penetration at all... during the Falklands war the Argentinians didn't have any heavy armour and the British Milan missiles were mostly used against mg positions and snipers at 2km which of course is outside effective small arms fire range... having a SACLOS AT-3 would have saved them a lot of money.
The whole point behind developing and deploying the Metis-M and Metis-M1 was as a low cost missile to replace the AT-3 which was made in enormous numbers.
Looking at what appears to be the new Bulat missile... which seems to be a scaled down smaller calibre Kornet is probably an attempt at a smaller lighter cheaper missile that doesn't have the enormous range and penetration of the Kornet but the vast majority of targets don't need 8.5km range or 1.2m of penetration most of the time.
An AT-3 missile modified not to increase penetration, but increase lethality simply by going from a HEAT warhead to a HE FRAG warhead would probably sell rather well.
The advantage of Bulat is that the laser beam riding guidance allows a much higher flight speed and simpler guidance that with an auto tracker is pretty much fire and forget anyway... they were talking about the upgrade of Metis, the Metis-M2 I presume is longer range... to 3km, so a higher flight speed would be useful too...

They have quite a variety of small arms don't they... would be interesting to see the numbers for the firearms to show which are in testing or small scale use and which are widely used and of course which are being or have been phased out already.
