Seems A-Kholoptov wasn't really happy with the sudden release of that image with apparently other people's watermark, based on what he wrote on his blog.

Yes, its a 2A42 installed rotated around its axis in a similar fashion to the one installed on Ka-52. It can fire co-axially to the main gun or as you can see, elevate independently.
As others pointed out, the way it is mounted could be an effort to reduce the impact of the muzzle flash on the nearby gunner sight.

Actually the way it is positioned It looks like when it is level the muzzle would be very close the the gun mantlet... but looking closely it looks like it is side on so the muzzle flash that normally comes out sideways would go vertically and directly down in this setup...

Looking at the armoured cover on the gunner sight... the way it opens the open cover would provide protection from any muzzle blast from the cannon I suspect... there looks to be a coaxial MG mounted next to the 30mm cannon, which would make a lot of sense... this is a heavy tank for operating in tough environments like urban areas so a high elevation 30mm cannon along with a rifle calibre machine gun would allow the tank crew to shoot at targets high up on upper floors of buildings with 30mm cannon fire and 30 cal MG rounds... a very useful feature...

Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu visits the assembly shop of Uralvagonzavod Corporation in Nizhny Tagil

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu arrived in Nizhny Tagil today. The head of the military department decided to personally inspect the plant, which runs a state defense order for the production, including of the latest T-14 Armata tanks.

In the assembly shop, work is in full swing. Specialists are in a hurry to fulfill the state defense order for the deep modernization of T-72 tanks and other armored vehicles. On this site, the installers change the entire electrical filling of the combat vehicle. “There are up to 5 kilometers of wires. The operations are all very important, more complicated than that of a surgeon even. Each operation is submitted to the controller separately. For operations, for a passport, ”says Ilya Selivanov, locksmith and electrician for the assembly shop.

Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu personally checks the progress of the state defense order. In the same workshop, various modifications of the T-90S tanks are also being assembled, which are in service with not only Russia, but also other countries. And by the way, not only them.

“130 UVZ workshop is the only tank conveyor in the country. It is here that the most modern T-14 tank known to the whole world under the name “Armata” is assembled today. ”

The work, of course, is very responsible. Therefore, specialists of only the highest class with one or even several higher educations work here. Assembling tanks for them is a special pride. “Of course, there is pride. Very big pride. I have a daughter and a son, they say: dad, dad, did you collect this? I say, yes, there is such a thing, ”says Dmitry Frolov, a fitter and electrician at the assembly shop.

Sergei Shoigu was introduced to the timing and assembly process of military vehicles, as well as presented new developments of highly protected robotic systems of a heavy class. The head of the defense ministry was satisfied. So the plant will be provided with new orders for at least a few more years.

What is the letter P on some tower parts? There is such a country. It’s called Paki .. Paki ... like cherubs. I forgot. We will conditionally call it Panama.

Uralvagonzavod (UVZ) tank manufacturer - Page 3 Empty Re: Uralvagonzavod (UVZ) tank manufacturer

    Post  George1 Tue Oct 01, 2019 11:01 pm

The TASS news agency under the heading "This weapon does not need advertising. On the promising Uralvagonzavod equipment for the Russian army" published an interview with the special representative of Uralvagonzavod Scientific Industrial Corporation JSC (UVZ) for military-technical cooperation of Army General Aleksey Fedorovich Maslov (who, in 2004-2008, was the Commander-in-Chief of the Ground Forces of the Russian Federation - about the features of the modernization of armored vehicles and the potential of promising designs created for the Ground Forces in ysk Russian Federation.

The most numerous type of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation — the Ground Forces of Russia — has reached a new level of development and is actively rearming. Equipment with modern weapons this year should reach 60%, over the past five years alone, over 12 thousand new and modernized models have arrived.

And most of all these products are developed and created by the Uralvagonzavod Research and Production Corporation (UVZ, part of the Rostec state corporation). The largest supplier in the framework of the state defense order issues for the Ground Forces about the same amount of armored vehicles and various artillery systems as almost the rest of the “defense”: more than 800 units are sent to the troops every year, starting with tanks and ending with mortars. "We, like no one else, are closer to the land investigators. And the Day of the Ground Forces on October 1 is our day," said Alexei Fedorovich Maslov in an interview with TASS.

    ARMY GENERAL ALEXEY MASLOV

He graduated from the Kharkov Guards Higher Tank Command School (1974), the Military Academy of Armored Forces (1984), the Military Academy of the General Staff (1998). He served in various positions, from platoon commander to commander in chief of the Ground Forces. Later he was the main military representative of the Russian Federation to NATO. At present, he is a special representative of UVZ for military-technical cooperation. He was awarded many orders and medals.

    Tank armada

The appearance of the Russian tank fleet is being built taking into account geographical and climatic features, taking into account the use of vehicles in various theaters of operations - all this, according to Maslov, determines the need for the presence of tanks of different models in the park. At the same time, the fragmentation of the tank fleet has been significantly reduced over the past decade: if earlier, in addition to T-72, T-80, T-90, there were also T-55 and T-62 in the troops, now the line is narrowing.

"In place of the numerous modifications of the T-72 since 2011, tanks that have undergone modernization, brought to the uniform appearance of the T-72B3, began to return to the troops. About 1.5 thousand combat vehicles were built. They have a new diesel engine with an output of 1130 hp, additional protection elements for the tower, side projections and the bottom. Modern fire control systems are installed (a daily detection, recognition and guidance is provided on targets at ranges up to 5000 m), digital communications and some others, "says the army general.

Since 2018, the modernized T-80BVM tanks have been entering the troops. “The modernization potential provided an increase in all the basic characteristics of the T-80BV tank: firepower, security, mobile and command controllability,” Maslov said. “The firing range of all types of ammunition was increased day, night and in conditions of limited visibility. The vehicle’s all-angle protection against modern anti-tank The operating fuel consumption was reduced when the gas turbine engine was parked with the fire control system turned on, and the fire control system was unified Anka with the T-72B3 tank. "

The modernized T-90M "Breakthrough" also entered the troops. “In terms of combat effectiveness, they are significantly superior to their predecessor, and the modularity of the construction structure provides increased performance during subsequent upgrades. The T-90M provides parity with promising foreign tanks,” Maslov says.

"We have already prepared the T-90MS (the export version of the T-90M tank - approx. TASS) for a foreign customer, we’ve tested it, by the decision of the Russian Ministry of Defense, we have carried out development work (OKR) and what was it? Good T-90M. And now in the army, as I understand it, the main tank will be the T-90M Breakthrough, ”said the army general.

“I would not say that there are a lot of tanks in the army. On the contrary, there is a unification. On the T-80 they installed such a fire control system as on the T-90 and T-72 ... that is, the unification of 100% of the machine. And without T- 80 Russia is impossible, because it was created for the north "- Alexey Maslov

    Tankers become gamers

Appears in the tank units and a completely new multi-functional platform - "Armata", on the basis of which three vehicles have already been developed, and it is possible that in the near future there will be more. "This is not the limit. We’ll run around, our OCD is going according to plan, because creating a new car is a long process," Maslov says. If there is any need, together with the customer, we will adjust the time indicators in one direction or another. " The company fulfills its obligations as planned.

According to him, these products (on the Armata platform) will become the basis of the tank fleet for decades, and the structurally incorporated opportunities for their modernization will ensure compliance with their challenges for the long term.

"Armata" is a completely new design solution. For tankers there are completely new conditions for warfare. By and large, they become "gamers." The crew sees everything, but using instruments. We used to look at the commander’s triplex and sight. Here the psychology for the tanker will be completely different - they will have to trust the instruments "- Alexey Maslov.

Therefore, there is no doubt that the operation of products on this platform must be approached with responsibility in order to maintain high-tech, effective and expensive weapons. “The vehicles are technically sophisticated, but simple enough to operate. They fully take into account the requirement of the Ministry of Defense that they will be operated by military personnel of the fixed-term and contract service,” Maslov says, answering the question whether officer crews may appear in tank units in which the mechanics-drivers of the T-14 Armata will be officers with higher military education.

    Fire support vehicle

Another brainchild of the UVZ corporation is the “Terminator” tank support vehicle (BMPT), which will easily “take away” everything in its path - from grenade launchers and lightly armored vehicles to tanks, infantry fighting vehicles and armored personnel carriers. Large angles of guidance of automatic guns are capable of hitting targets on the upper floors of buildings, firing at low-flying aerial targets such as UAVs, helicopters and even aircraft.

And to this car there is a certain interest not only in Russia, but also beyond its borders. "One of the countries has already ordered a batch of BMPT, which will be delivered to the customer in the near future," says Maslov.

This machine was created on the basis of the T-90, even when Alexei Fedorovich was commander in chief of the Ground Forces, state tests were conducted. However, then, due to several circumstances, the military refused the car. “Why did they cut it off for the first time? It was incorrectly named,” he said. “Everyone immediately has a question: why do we need a tank, if it still needs to be supported? If it were just called a“ fire support vehicle, ”it would pass from the summer.”

"Now there are so many anti-tank weapons that the gunner must watch for all tank-dangerous targets," says Maslov.

It is no secret that the second life "Terminator" gave the military operation in Syria.

    Battle Scorpion

The UVZ corporation also has new engineering machines. So, last year at the Army forum, for the first time, a UBIM (universal armored engineering vehicle) was introduced - a machine that replaced the existing models in the troops.

At present, our army is armed with vehicles of various types and purposes, each of which can solve only a narrowly limited range of tasks. Kill, however, has the capabilities of three machines at once: BREM (armored repair and recovery vehicle), IMR (engineering clearing vehicle), BMR (armored mine clearing vehicle), as well as track layers. It is capable of paving the way for troops in a minefield under enemy fire, including in radioactively contaminated areas. Can make passages in stone and forest blockages in a medium-rugged and mountainous-wooded area.

“The key word is universality. Our experience in Syria has shown that we should not forget about all types of equipment, including engineering. Therefore, the task was set and a universal engineering machine was created, which can perform tasks both as a bulldozer and as a track-laying machine. equipment changes - it’s possible to attach a bucket there. That is, we replace several with one machine located in the engineering departments. This is a significant reduction in the material resources spent in the troops on the maintenance of equipment "- Alexey Masl in.

It remains only to wait for this car in the army. "After the Army-2019 forum, the UBIM went into state tests, which are planned to be completed this year. The tests are being carried out in accordance with the program approved by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. There are no comments in the current process," Maslov said.

    New samples for air defense

In the interests of the Ground Forces, the development of a self-propelled air defense system of the tactical link 2C38 Derivation-Air Defense is also underway. A modern uninhabited combat module with a 57-mm gun mounted on a machine can fire at both ground and air targets at ranges up to 10 km. "And one of his main tasks is the fight against unmanned aerial vehicles. There is a whole line of ammunition, including remote detonation," Maslov says about the highly promising development of the Tsurelii Burevestnik.

As for its varieties, UVZ is working on the Dagger project. A remote combat module with an automatic 57-mm gun was first demonstrated at the Army-2018 forum as part of the T-15 Armata infantry fighting vehicle (BMP), causing considerable interest among the participants and guests of the forum. “Foreign customers are interested in this module“ Dagger ”, it is in demand. But so far we are not selling anything to anyone, because while work on it continues, the Defense Minister is interested in this module every time at the exhibition,” the general noted, noting that it’s possible its installation on the "Kurganets" (universal medium tracked platform, on the basis of which BMP and armored personnel carriers are created - approx. TASS).

"For these projects, we are in the framework of preliminary or the beginning of state tests. Next year for the corporation will be a breakthrough in the sense that we will complete a series of state tests," Maslov said.

    "Flower" artillery

However, the UVZ corporation is not only tanks and engineering vehicles based on them, the enterprises develop and manufacture a wide range of other land products, among which are 2S19M2 Msta-S and 2S35 Coalition-SV self-propelled artillery, TOS- heavy flamethrower system 1A (for the Russian Armed Forces Defense Forces), self-propelled mortar launchers (Design and Design Bureau "Sketch"), portable and transportable mortars.

So, the Phlox self-propelled gun mount and the Drok mortar developed by order of the Russian Ministry of Defense as part of the Sketch project are at the final stage of preliminary tests, Maslov noted. “Everything is going according to plan. There is a contract for their serial production,” he added.

The transport base of the 120-mm Phlox gun is an Ural-4320 army armored vehicle with a 6x6 wheel formula, and the 82-mm Drok mortar has a Kamaz (four-wheeled Typhoon-Airborne armored vehicle), which makes them not only mobile, but also super passable.

"Their main feature is high mobility, because they are practically invulnerable to the enemy. Previously, mortars were always driven in the back, now they have a self-propelled mortar with ammunition and calculation in the reserved space," Maslov explains, noting that there are similar developments and abroad - in Israel, South Africa, Germany. Therefore, interest in this new class of weapons, which can significantly increase the mobility of artillery units, is huge.

Maslov also says that, among the special equipment, UVZ is working on two-link conveyor tractors, combat and support vehicles based on them - DT-10PM, DT-30PM, DT-BTR (OKR Gusenitsa), as well as a two-link tracked repair and recovery vehicle DT-REM State Duma (OKR "Evacuator-GM") and some others.

Advertising is not needed, but our tanks are needed

The improvement of weapons and equipment is a constant and necessary process. Therefore, in order to ensure the necessary parity and superiority over a potential adversary, according to Maslov, UVZ is working on issues of equipping promising products with artillery installations of increased power, motor-transmission units with electric transmissions and with the use of robotic elements.

“Yes, now in the conditions when air and space reconnaissance equipment sees all movements in real time, then probably the Ministry of Defense will need to make some changes to the combat manuals or instructions for use,” the general believes. “It may take less to be in all units in areas of concentration, if, God forbid, it will be necessary to carry out tasks on the offensive or on the defensive.Maybe it will be necessary to have high-speed cars with a supply of fuel and power so that they quickly assemble in command in a certain area, they performed tasks and then diverged. "

"Other, more powerful and long-range weapons of destruction appear in the world, but this is again a question for the Ministry of Defense. We, as an industry, must fulfill all these requirements that were laid down by the customer when he entered into a contract for the development of a combat vehicle" - Alexey Maslov .

According to him, the current state of the world market of armored weapons and equipment is characterized by high demand for tanks. "This is due to the increasing role of armored personnel carriers (armored vehicles and equipment) in modern wars and armed conflicts in combat missions, as evidenced by the experience of local wars of recent decades, confirmed by statistics on the number of armored combat vehicles used," the general says.

The corporation notes that the prospects of the Russian segment of the tank market are related to the implementation of the following areas: expanding the range of military products for export, including T-90S / MS tanks and vehicles based on them (BMPT, TOS-1A, BREM, engineering equipment) ; modernization of previously delivered T-72/80/90 tanks, which are in large quantities in service with foreign countries; creating a system of after-sales service (service centers, supply of spare parts, training of specialists in the repair and maintenance of equipment).

Therefore, the export of armored vehicles abroad to international arms exhibitions with a demonstration of real models (as it was about five years ago) does not play a huge role, and is associated with high costs. “Our equipment has proven itself in a positive way during the recent armed conflicts, and the best advertising is real combat operations, where all its qualities are manifested: firepower, mobility and security,” said the UVZ special representative. “The tank shot in Syria if it hit , or they got into it, immediately a video on social networks. At a tank biathlon, the car accelerated to 80 km / h. What is this? Also a promotion. "

“We are not shy at the exhibitions, we work. We show that we have achieved technically over this period of time. Now the modernization potential of the T-72 is very high. And we have developed many different modifications of weapons, protection and control. To the customer, depending on needs, you only need to make a choice. In the market, when you come to the exhibition, the question is whether tanks are needed, there’s no answer. There is already an answer. Tanks are needed. There is a question of competition between manufacturers "- Alexey Maslov.

“Now there are very few producing countries. And the question is not how much they are produced, but the question is who will deliver high-tech quality products outside the country. We are one of the first here,” says Maslov. True, the political situation often affects the sale of military equipment. So, according to the general, starting in 2012, several major transactions at UVZ were not concluded only for political reasons.

The quality and reliability of Russian weapons, including UVZ production, is highly appreciated by foreign customers, which positively affects the image of Russia as a reliable supplier of military products.

    - Have you seen the T-72 tank in motion?

    - Yes.

    - Nice car?

    - Highly.

    - And the T-80 and T-90 tanks?

    - Yes, during the exercises.

    “They are all beautiful!”

    - And what is your favorite?

    - According to my first education, I am a tanker and I must praise tanks. In my last position, I am the commander of the Ground Forces. And I should all be equal.

    NPK URALVAGONZAVOD

At the end of 2016, in accordance with the decree of the President of the Russian Federation, Uralvagonzavod became part of the Rostec state corporation. Today, together with such leaders of the defense industry complex as Techmash, Kalashnikov, High-precision complexes, Kurganmashzavod and others, it is part of the Rostec arms cluster. The integrated UVZ structure includes more than 30 industrial enterprises, design bureaus and research institutes. In its history, UVZ has produced more than 100 thousand tanks, more than 1 million 100 thousand railway cars. Currently, the corporation remains the largest Russian manufacturer of modern armored vehicles.

At the end of the conversation, Alexey Fedorovich, on behalf of the UVZ and on his own behalf, congratulated the current servicemen and veterans on their professional holiday. "By successfully multiplying the glorious traditions of the older generations, the Ground Forces make a significant contribution to protecting Russia's national interests, and the equipment developed and manufactured by the corporation will continue to serve this goal," he said.

Given modern anti-tank weapons like Javelin being given in large numbers to countries like Ukraine, it is essential that any future tank be protected by an active protection system that works against multiple attacks from weapons like Javelin. Anything else on the modern battlefield will be a death trap.

No wonder T-14 is becoming dead end

    What are you talking about?

Armata is a generation ahead of anything available anywhere on the planet... it is an amazing product for a third world gas station to produce let alone develop on their own without an American version to copy.

What he is saying is that the performance of the armour in Syria in a real conflict has rather more value than any video footage of armour doing jumps or rolling down a street in a parade, which is perfectly true.

The west is very slick with its adverts and propaganda, but such adverts can make all sorts of promises and claims that mislead the customer, they have little real value ultimately.
