The art of Chauvet cave Empty The art of Chauvet cave

Post  Aristide Sat Aug 22, 2020 4:34 pm

My home has alot of caves with paintings that are one of oldest paintings of mankind. Those caves are have names like thunder and inspire humans since their discovery.

But one stands out...The cave of Chauvet. The quality of its art is breathtaking and without anything compareable in the world. The paintings are so realistic and dynamic, that their quality reaches modern standards.
The art style is unique and its realism even helps palentologists to figure out what extinct animals looked like.

This was painted roughly 33.000 years ago...it shows horses, mammoths, rhinos and bulls. And worldfamous 16 lions chasing deer.

I find these cave paintings amazing. The painter did not paint the animals full body. But the head part, was most important. There is a kind of animation. Showing movement. Saying that the animal is and is not in the same place. But most importantly to me, the animal shapes melt into one. As though they are all the same. But turn into each other, by movement or shifting places.

I agree, Chauvet is amazing. The person that made this had skills that not even Renaissance painters had. Its movement, 3 dimensional. Its like a static animation.

Was it analyzed at least ?

33 000 years and they look like they were made yesterday. Even modern paint get destroyed after few years. What is it made of ? Polonium ?

to u, everything created by Africans, Asians & Aboriginals looks like crap. Mona Lisa painting is the most famous portrait, but it's not the most beautiful- & that's not only my opinion: https://www.britannica.com/story/why-is-the-mona-lisa-so-famous

Of course its analyzed. the cave was blocked for 29.000 years. Beside thag the cave is dry, has no light and wind inside, so nothing can damage the paint.
