Defense Ministry to spend $15 mln by 2021 to prolong life-cycle of ballistic missiles

The work is to be completed by 2020

MOSCOW, November 21. /TASS/. The Russian Defense Ministry plans to prolong the life cycle of intercontinental ballistic missiles Topol-M, Voyevoda and UR-100N. It will spend more than 900 million rubles on this program by the end of 2020, as follows from a document published on the portal of government purchases.

The contract will be carried out by three approximately equal installments in 2018, 2019 and 2020. The work is to be completed by November 10, 2020. The contractor will be selected by December 10, 2018.

Good reference point on LEP for legacy ICBMs, (2015): 28 years (30 planned) for SS-18; 34 (36) for SS-19, 16 (20) for SS-27 mod.1 (silo); 25 for SS-25 (road-mobile).
Another important figure: average annual life exstension costs are 200-300 mln. rub, roughly equals one (1) new.

Topol launch from Kapustin Yar

On 28 November 2019 the Strategic Rocket Forces conducted a successful launch of a Topol ICBM from the test site in Kapustin Yar toward the Sary-Shagan test site in Kazakhstan. According to the official statement, all objectives of the launch have been met and the warhead reached its target with the required accuracy.

Previous launch of a Topol missile from Kapustin Yar took place in July 2019.
