BALASHIKHA (Moscow Region), August, 6 (RIA Novosti) - A radar station in the southern Russian town of Armavir will become fully operational in October-November as part of the country's missile warning system, a military official said on Thursday.

"The station will be put into operation...in October-November this year," said Gen. Nikolai Abroskin, head of the Federal Agency for Special Construction, which builds radar sites and space launch centers.

The station is currently operating in a test mode.

The Armavir radar has been built to monitor any potential missile attacks in the south and southeast of Russia in place of the early warning facilities in Mukachevo in western Ukraine and Sevastopol in the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea.

Russia terminated a 1997 agreement with Kiev on the use of both Ukrainian radars in February 2008 on the grounds that they had become obsolete.

With an effective range of 4,000 kilometers (2,500 miles) the Voronezh-type radar has capabilities similar to its predecessors, the Dnepr and Daryal, which are currently deployed outside Russia, but uses less energy and is more environmentally friendly.

Russia has offered the U.S. use of radar stations at Armavir and Gabala in Azerbaijan as alternatives to a planned U.S. missile shield deployment in Central Europe, which Moscow has fiercely opposed as a security threat.

Washington has since shown little interest in the Russian proposal, but with the arrival of a new administration, led by President Barack Obama, has frozen its plans to open a missile interceptor base in Poland and a radar station in the Czech Republic.

During his visit to Moscow in July, Obama pledged to consider Russia's concerns and review the U.S.'s European shield plans.

Now if we can just shore up the gap in the Far East we can have a 360 degree coverage.

Well, with Mig-31's patrolling the far east regions, there isn't much to fear. But for an over the horizon radar, well, they may plan to build one, as it would be essential (but then again, the Russian Navy is also patrolling the far east, so my guess is they already have that area covered).

Mig-31s can't patrol the skies. The US could destroy Russia and they wouldn't know it until it is too late.

You are a pathetic excuse of a Turk. Actually, I cannot even believe you are Turkish (as I am part Turk) and I find it disgusting you say such stupid BS.

Russia has Missile warning satellites, they have over the horizon radar, and the Mig-31 that is capable of detecting these missiles from about 230KM away, would give them time to launch their missiles (which in case of a full out war with Russia, America's missile defense system is like an Umbrella in a gun fight).

If it was that easy, USA would have already attacked. Don't kid yourself boy.

Voronezh EW radar: News Empty Russia set to restore radar shield on western borders in 2010

Post  nightcrawler Thu Sep 30, 2010 10:57 pm

Russia set to restore radar shield on western borders in 2010

Russia will restore the complete radar coverage of its western borders when a new radar facility in the southern town of Armavir becomes fully operational by mid-2010, the Space Forces commander said.

The Armavir radar will be the second facility, after the Lekhtusi complex in the Leningrad Region, to close a gap in radar coverage on Russia's western borders after the closure of radar sites in Skrunda (Latvia) in late 1998 and recently in Mukachevo and Sevastopol, in western Ukraine.

"The facilities in Armavir and Lekhtusi will ensure the complete radar coverage on the relevant directions that could pose a missile threat," Maj. Gen. Oleg Ostapenko told reporters in Moscow.

The general later clarified that the new Voronezh-DM class radars would monitor missile trajectories and probable directions for a missile attack in northwestern and southwestern Russia.

With an effective range of 4,000 kilometers (2,500 miles) the Voronezh class radar has capabilities similar to its predecessors, the Dnepr and Daryal, which are currently deployed by Russia in Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan, but uses less energy and is more environmentally friendly.

The Lekhtusi missile early warning radar outside St. Petersburg became operational in December last year, while the Armavir facility is still in the testing phase.

Post  Austin Sun Mar 27, 2011 4:08 pm

Some interesting comments from Sergei Boev, Designer General of the RTI Sistemy Consortium, designer general the missile attack warning system commercial-off-the-shelf radar

    http://www.4shared.com/document/E6cqFflq/START_III_AND_DEVELOPMENT_OF_M.html

    1. The Consortium developed the Voronezh and the Voronezh-DM COTS radar prototypes, operating in difference bandwidths. The Voronezh radar, deployed in Lekhtusi, has already undergone state tests, while the Voronezh-DM, deployed in Armavir, is currently undergoing factory tests. We expect the Voronezh-DM radar to complete the state tests this year and to be fielded with the Russian Space
    Forces.

    2. The Radio Engineering Institute named after A.L. Mints and the Scientific Research Institute for Long-Range Radio Communications have worked out proposals on future development of space and missile defence radars.
The proposals have been submitted for consideration to be included in the draft state arms programme through to 2020 (SAP-2020). They include the following:

First and foremost, establishment of a central radar system designed for acquisition and processing of data, fed by space-based components of the missile attack warning system, over-the-horizon radars, perimeter acquisition radars of the missile attack warning system, and central radar field surveillance radars (Don-2N general-purpose radar, the Dunai-3U surveillance radar, and COTS radars).

    It will:

    • increase reliability of evaluation of possible targeted facilities, the scale of an attack, and targets,attacking crucial facilities;
    • detect and track potential targets, including ballistic missiles with gliding warheads and hypersonic cruise missiles, throughout their flight trajectories;
    • engage non-strategic ballistic missiles and provide information support to combat employment of air
    defence and missile defence systems;
    • acquire accurate information on space-based targets;
    • considerably increase survivability of the strategic deterrence forces information support.

Secondly, development and production of new-generation re-deployable COTS radars designed to:
    • boost information support capabilities of space, missile, and air defence systems, operating in sectors posing increased threat;
    • establish remote radar stations;
    • monitor missile defence component tests at field ranges of foreign states.
Thirdly, new radar development technologies, actively researched by the Consortium:
    • based on built-in dual-band automated phased arrays with an overall adaptive signal processing
    and control;
    • multi-dimensional digital 3D-frequency-time and polarisation aggregate signal processing;
    • flexible adaptive control over power, hardware, and software resources, multi-level
    troubleshooting and backup of general-purpose radars;
    • mutual synchronisation, reception, and processing of signals, emitted by other radars, and multi-positioning within a group of space and missile defence information assets.

Any idea what is he talking in point 2 ,3 ,4 under new radar development technologies ? I can understand the dual band radar its some one similar to SPY-3 AESA operating in 2 bands.

New Russian radar to be tested near Kaliningrad by end of 2011
    RIA Novosti

    15:55 14/05/2011

MOSCOW, May 14 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's Space Forces commander said on Saturday that a new radar being built near the Baltic port of Kaliningrad would be tested by the end of the year.

"The westernmost radar Voronezh DM in the Kaliningrad Region may be tested by the end of this year," Gen. Oleg Ostapenko told a military council of the Space Forces in Krasnoznamensk outside Moscow.

Ostapenko said three more radars would also soon be completed near the cities of Irkutsk in Siberia, St. Petersburg and Krasnodar in the south.

He said the first two Voronezh class radars were already being tested near St. Petersburg and near Krasnodar.

"The radar in Lekhtusi [outside St. Petersburg] is ready to be put on combat duty, which will happen by the end of 2011," he said, adding that the Space Forces were working on further development of the early warning systems in Russia.

The Armavir radar near Krasnodar will be the second facility after the Lekhtusi complex to close a gap in radar coverage on Russia's western borders after radar sites were closed in Skrunda (Latvia) in late 1998 and recently in Mukachevo and Sevastopol (Ukraine).

Russia to put new radar on combat duty near Irkutsk in 2012

A new radar of the fourth Voronezh class will be put into operation near the Siberian city of Irkutsk by the end of this year as part of Russia’s early warning system, a missile defense spokesman said on Sunday.

The current overhaul of Russia’s missile defenses is also due to the new strategic challenges presented by the U.S.-led missile shield plans in Europe.

“This year a new generation radar will be put on combat duty. It is not complete but it is already working in the test regime,” said Colonel Alexei Zolotukhin, spokesman for the missile defense troops in the Russian Defense Ministry.

Three other Voronezh class radars are already operating in Lekhtusi near St. Petersburg, in Armavir in the Black Sea area and in Pionersky near Kaliningrad.

The Voronezh class radars are a serious breakthrough compared to the previous generation radars of the Dnepr and Daryal class. The radar in Pionersky has a range of 6,000 km and can simultaneously track about 500 objects.

Under the national defense program until 2020, the Defense Ministry is to replace all Soviet long-range radars and close all gaps in radar coverage on Russia's borders.

This is quite important news, because now that the Space Defence forces (which operates the ABM system around Moscow and the space tracking radar and optics sites and of course these over the horizon radar systems) has been combined with the PVO with land based and AWACS based, and space based radar and fighter interceptor aircraft, and of course strategic SAMs, then radar coverage is going to be very important.

As part of the old ABM treaty they couldn't combine these sorts of big powerful radars with radars that covered Russian airspace because that might be used as a battle management system to make the ABM systems more effective.

Now of course the ABM treaty no longer applies... So once they have their borders covered it might make sense to build a few to cover the airspace over Russia. This would be a much more efficient way of detecting low flying cruise missiles and enemy stealth bombers coming over the north pole and into Russian airspace than smaller shorter ranged radars.

Voronezh EW radar: News Empty St. Petersburg Radar to be Put on Alert in Feb.

Post  Russian Patriot Fri Feb 10, 2012 11:22 am

This month a new radar of the Voronezh class will be put on alert duty near Russia’s second largest city of St. Petersburg as part of Russia’s early warning system, a missile defense spokesman said on Thursday.

The current overhaul of Russia’s missile defenses is also due to the new strategic challenges presented by the U.S.-led missile shield plans in Europe.

“New generation missile warning radar in the Leningrad Region will be put on alert duty in February 2012,” said Col. Alexei Zolotukhin, spokesman for the missile defense troops in the Russian Defense Ministry.

The radar in the Leningrad Region was built in 2006 and until recently was operated in a test mode, he said.

Two other Voronezh class radars are already operating in a test mode in Armavir in the Black Sea area and in Pionersky near Russia's westernmost exclave of Kaliningrad. Another one near the Siberian city of Irkutsk will be put into test mode operation later this year.

The Voronezh class radars are a serious breakthrough compared to the previous generation radars of the Dnepr and Daryal class. The radar in Pionersky has a range of 6,000 kilometers and can simultaneously track around 500 objects.

Under the national defense program until 2020, the Defense Ministry is to replace all Soviet long-range radars and close all gaps in radar coverage on Russia's borders.

    Good news.

They could also build a few of these radar in central Russia to scan Russian airspace for threats... something that was not allowed under the ABM treaty because it could be used as a battle management system for ABM systems, but now that the ABM treaty is void they can put them where they like...

Russia placed its new Voronezh-M long-range missile warning radar on duty in the Irkutsk region of Siberia on Wednesday, marking a major increase in its missile early warning system capability..

"At 10:15 a.m. (5:15 a.m. Moscow time) on May 23, it was put on duty," said Lt. Gen. Oleg Ostapenko, the commander of Russia's Aerospace Defense Forces at the site.

"This unique station has massive capabilities and is a key link in carring out our strategic tasks given to us by the high command. It plays a key role in the missile early warning chain," he said at the opening ceremony for the Voronezh-M radar station.

"Once a second Voronezh-M is built, we will no longer have to rely on the Dnepr missile early warning system radars" he added.

The Dnepr system was the Soviet Union's first generation phased-array anti-missile radar system. It was deployed at a number of peripheral sites in the USSR including Latvia, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan. Russia lost use of these facilities when the Soviet Union collapsed, causing a loss of surveillance capability.

With the introduction of a second Voronezh-M station, the system will have its coverage doubled to 240 degrees, covering an arc from India to the United States.

The new Voronezh-M station can also be more quickly deployed to a new site and requires a smaller crew to operate it compared to previous generation stations. The radar station also uses 40 percent less energy.

Former Strategic Missile Forces Chief of Staff Col. Gen. Viktor Yesin said the new Voronezh-M radar station covers the northeast of the U.S. and China.

It can detect ballistic targets up to 6000 kilometers, while the older Dnepr radar can only detect them at up to 2500 kilometers, Yesin said.

Interesting ! It has a coverage of 6000 kms . However it seems for now the concentration is more on the European side than the Asian side ( where all the action is ) . Wonder when it will be activated in Vladivostok and other parts of the Asia Pacific region .

Got to say today is a red letter day for Russia. First the activation of this state of the art radar and later in the day the successful test of a new prototype ballistic missile from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in Arkhangelsk Region

Russia to Build Two New Radar Stations in 2013

MOSCOW, December 27 (RIA Novosti) – Russia will start building two new radar stations in east Siberia's Krasnoyarsk Territory and in the south Siberian Altai Republic in 2013, Russia’s deputy defense minister said on Thursday.

“New stations will be constructed across Russia, including in Yeniseysk [Krasnoyarsk] and Barnaul [Altai],” Gen.-Col.Oleg Ostapenko told journalists.

Ostapenko said a feasibility study has been performed for the planned construction, which will start on schedule.

Earlier this month, Russia’s Foreign Ministry confirmed that the Russian army will no longer rent the Gabala radar station in Azerbaijan. The lease, signed in 2002, was valid until December 24, 2012.

Russia is replacing the Gabala radar station, which has played a crucial role in its missile defense system, with a new system based at Armavir in Russia’s southern Krasnodar Territory.

Ostapenko said the Armavir radar station is in the final stage of testing. “For today, the station is ready to fulfill tasks,” he said adding that the station is due to be put on full combat alert soon.

Interview with General Director of JSC "RTI" Sergey Boev

    http://vpk.name/news/82242_myi_dolzhnyi_sozdat_novuyu_nacionalnuyu_sistemu_preduprezhdeniya_o_raketnom_napadenii.html

We have to create a new national system of early warning

General Director of JSC "RTI" Sergey Boev told "Interfax" on the group's activities and plans for its development

State armaments program for the period up to 2020, provides large-scale construction in the interests Forces Aerospace harrows powerful radar system of the new generation of missile warning (EWS). Prime contractor implementation work is the concern of "RTI". On the group's activities and plans for its development, "Interfax-AVN," said Director General of "RTI", chief designer of the missile warning Sergey Boev.

    - Sergei Fedotovich, the Defense Ministry and the army ASD states that radar early warning system of "Voronezh" development and production concern "RTI" will form the basis of the ground segment of the missile warning. What are the advantages of these plants?

    - Ground segment of early warning in this country has traditionally involved two institutions - RTI Academician A.L.Mintsa distance radio communication and research institutes. Both institutions are our concern.

There was a very serious job, in my opinion, an unprecedented perspective on the problem of radar image, solve problems related to the new challenges and threats. It was clear that the new radar system should be better than all predecessors.

What is better, what criteria apply? There are characteristics of radar, due to the laws of physics, without increasing the size of the antenna station, you can not get a signal or a higher power to provide increased detection range. At the same time, there are a number of characteristics that are achieved by a more modern and highly intelligent decisions. Due to this fact, a completely different, better, the level of armaments.

Right here is exactly the same case. For example, our stations, in contrast to previous generations of radar, are deprived of the problems associated with the cooling of the emitting devices, which required massive infrastructure, and, consequently, the need for additional power and process equipment. Need this now disappeared. At times the number of reduced operational staff on combat duty in the new stations EWS.

If you compare the station type "Voronezh" similar problems with crucial U.S. radar, you can see that our foreign models are inferior in some aspects! For example, having approximately the same specifications, the American radar essentially lose in operating costs.

It is very important to the new stations has implemented a number of innovative technical solutions. In particular, the use of intellectual phased array antenna with a digital formation and management of the radiation pattern, the total polarization receiving reflected signals vysokoinformatsionnyh broadband probing signal, and digital signal processing with special processor ultra high performance in-house development and manufacturing.

A fundamentally new approach to self stations. Erected by us in various regions of the country radar missile warning - this is a radar with an open architecture. It is possible to select and set a certain level of performance, depending on the challenges and physical and geographical conditions of the region placement, using different set of equipment.

An important advantage of our radar - it is their high operational.

For the first time in the history of the armament of this complexity, their deployment on the objects are in a very short period - 1.5 years. Stress, previously it took at least 10 years! New stations are called - high operational station. Construction readiness technological platform practically only need to install the antenna curtains, the rest of electronic equipment in finished form is applied to an object, it is assembled and adjusted. This sort of "LEGO Construction", which can be assembled by mounting the large functional blocks, manufactured at the enterprises of our group.

Today, new stations comply with the requirements specified Troops of Aerospace Defense. Especially pay attention to the fact that they contain technological capabilities, if needed, could be used for further expansion of the tactical and technical characteristics.

    - According to reports, troops EKR the commissioning of one or the other of the new station, work on their construction are deployed, as they say, a broad front?

    - Yes, our concern today is a very serious problem. In a short period of time we have to solve large-scale task, in fact, it is about creating a new early warning system of the ground segment based radar perspective of "Voronezh", located exclusively in the territory of our country.

The original plan for this task had until 2020. Decision of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin's term for its implementation defined - 2018. It made us not only to reconsider, but the maximum tightening schedules enterprises cooperation.

Now the results of work in 2012. Commissioned and put on combat duty in the first radar MAWS Lekhtusi Leningrad region. State tests conducted the first sector and continues to create the second sector of the radar complex in the Irkutsk region. State tests are conducted in Armavir radar complex. Solved target capacity performance characteristics radar in the Kaliningrad region, located on the pilot alert.

Cooperation in enterprises started production of apparatus and equipment for another five promising radar early warning system.

But that's not all. Ensuring reliable aerospace defense establishment is responsible for the same period of the two objects to be placed on their radar horizon location. One object is created in the, in the Volga region in Kovylkino, the second planned for the Far East.

Since their entry into service will be substantially improved performance for the detection and delivery of information on the prevention of future air and space attack in the first place, at hypersonic aircraft and strategic cruise missiles.

In short, the enterprise group to be hard work to deal with all the planned until 2018.

    - What does it mean to provide continuous radar field?

    - It means that those gaps that still exist in the radar field of missile warning, will be eliminated. In all directions will be carried out missile-intelligence aerospace enemy technical means deployed in the Russian Federation.

Definitely improve the quality of the tasks facing the ground echelon of the EWS, is only possible in conjunction with its space echelon that create and develop co-operatives led by CNPO "Comet."

Currently, his team has focused on the creation of the Single space system. I believe that with the introduction of its operational capabilities integrated early warning system, and, consequently, the level of strategic deterrence considerably.

    - Recently it was announced that Russia suspends operation of Gabala radar station. Can the Armavir station for this loss?

    - Radar systems deployed in Armavir, able to fully compensate for the loss of information from the Gabala radar station. Furthermore, it is this system allows up for the loss of information from radars in Mukachevo and Sevastopol, which Russia leased from Ukraine, but then abandoned them. Entering this complex into service EWS provides a reliable solution to the problems of the southern and southeastern missile-threat directions.

Certainly, we are facing a serious problem with the inter-state problems on the Gabala station. We should not be later than the first quarter of 2013 to complete the state tests and put Armavir complex on alert.

I can not say a word about Gabaliskoy station because "DTV" for its time - it was a station is very high technical level, with a lot of intellectual reserve. If we made its modernization, using modern technology that we have, we would give this product a new quality. But that did not happen, it does not happen.

Stress as the modernized Gabala radar station, and practically created in Armavir radar system could be integrated into the European missile defense system.

    - A number of stations are on the early warning system in CIS countries, including Belarus and Kazakhstan. What are the prospects for their use?

    - Based on the force since 1992 intergovernmental agreement on the means of systems of missile warning and space control between Russia and Kazakhstan in 1994, and the Russian Federation and Belarus in 1995, signed long-term (25-year) agreements governing the status and how to use the radar early warning system within their territory.

Group will continue to perform work on the maintenance and upgrading of the technical condition of the funds.

    - What about the concern with ensuring the targets of production and, above all, human resources?

    - We think about it, constantly are working to upgrade our facilities. Although are in difficult circumstances. Because, as a private company, we are unable to receive appropriations from the state program of development of the military-industrial complex. Until recently there was a certain order of receipt of funds under this budget expenditure. According to him, for instance, we have been in exchange for government loans and subsidies given to their shares. That is to change money into shares. And given that we have got this stock is not for nothing, we are already in the market to buy one, for us, this exchange is quite complex.

However, we have invested about $ 20 million a deep modernization of Saransk television factory in Mordovia. In this work, which is implemented on a public-private partnership involved the administration of Mordovia. We have received an interest-free loan, which made it possible not only to improve something in the factory and to create, in effect, a new plant. This company is now the leader in the country, including - for the average wage of workers. The plant is currently the only supplier of electronic systems for a new generation of missile early warning radar system.

At Yaroslavl Radio also carried us a great upgrade, now is a deep modernization at Dubna Machine-Building Plant. And that's just in terms of military production segment group.

At the same time we have done a lot of work for the development of microelectronics at the "Micron" in Zelenograd. This year we launched the production line of chips at 90-nm technology. This is a huge success of the state scale: we have dramatically reduced the gap on the basis of electronic components from the world's leading countries were included in the eight countries that have these technologies.

But all the same problems remain. First of all, it concerns the capacity of design patterns, developer. Because the greatest losses suffered by almost all research institutions, including ours - is the loss of a large number of developers. We have lost much of the class. Everywhere in varying degrees, but still it happened. In the "wild 90s" we almost lost the entire middle layer of our developers. Employees of our companies mainly went to the "Beeline" and the telecommunications business. Then it was more profitable. There were those who went to work in the West.

Now we have a big task - to unite and form a full-fledged design teams, aimed at addressing the challenges and future challenges. Last year we were able to attract over 250 young professionals. Not just workers, engineers, namely, those professionals who will develop and design new products. This is pretty serious effort. And yet, we see the need for greater efforts in this area.

To address this long-standing problem of training qualified personnel we have established close cooperation with leading educational institutions of the country. We have our own department, joint laboratories, their post-graduate training. This gives us the opportunity to continually strengthen training capacities of researchers, developers, and designers. Today, the main suppliers of us are professionals such leading universities as MIPT, Moscow Engineering Physics Institute, MAI, Bauman. In them we select promising students who are already on the 2nd and 3rd courses begin our thematic work. After graduation, they will have a good career and earn some serious money. For nonresident we solve the problem of housing, including through the purchase of housing for young professionals.

    - Concern "RTI" to solve important problems in the field of defense. It would probably be fair to it are subject to federal target program of defense?

    - We have raised this issue several times, including at a meeting with the Deputy Chairman of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Rogozin Olegovich meetings of the Military-Industrial Commission. It is very important for government subsidies, because the industry can not move forward without it. Today only through private investment objectives of rearmament is not solved. Obvious to me that this problem is best solved on the basis of public-private partnership.

    - With a private company to the state, obviously, harder to work with than SOEs?

    - Yes, probably harder. Certainly, the state should be the appropriate control. Also need an appropriate level of interaction with the customer. However, I am absolutely convinced that our performance is much higher. And our example is clearly demonstrated.

Another thing is that, for example, in the Soviet era, has received an order from the Ministry of Defence, the company knew that this order laid money on special equipment. Who does not.

This, I think, a mistake, because we will eventually lose the level of product quality. What is special equipment? This, above all, the measurement, laboratory equipment, which provided a very different solution to the problem of product quality. Many problems with deterioration, which today is related to the fact that the industrial enterprises lack Park metrology equipment. We, of course, solve the issue, but it is better to solve a long-tested economic mechanisms. In the end, a special equipment would remain the property of the Ministry of Defense, which would even receive rent for it. But the general case would have won.

    - Are you satisfied with the level of interaction with your primary customer - the Ministry of Defence?

    - The concern with the Defense perennial orders and contracts. In terms of the solution of our main problem we have with the Department of Defense, and above all with the troops ASD oiled machine interaction. Because we solve the problem very serious, nationwide. We have to do it, remember, in a short time at a high level. In this paper, one mistake with serious consequences. In fact, it is one of the elements of strategic deterrence. In this situation, the error has a very high price.

At present, work on creating advanced weapons carried us on credit - get state guarantees for loans they take on these loans products.

Of course, the credit scheme for us is not very comfortable. There was a time when we were trying to defend the pre-existing order. We use credit schemes, but not at the levels it is now, and to close the "narrow" places, gaps in funding. But when you're all production immediately for loans, reduced yield - part of the resource to be spent on servicing interest on loans.

Russian Defense Ministry advances us on a number of projects. Although advances are quite rhythmically, unfortunately, its timeframes do not suit us. To ensure the fulfillment of contractual obligations we have to advance to advance the work of our co-operation with a long run. And this despite the fact that the funds from the state are not yet available.

This is a blow to the profits that inhibits the development of production and the social agenda. I believe that this mechanism will be improved. Very much hope that the proposals, which are aimed at us, the Russian government will be considered, which will improve the situation.

    - In Russia, for several years, measures to develop the domestic electronic components. As your concern is involved?

    - Absolutely clear that this is a serious, national problem. In the field of microelectronics, we have introduced in Zelenograd microchip production line technology first 180 nm, then 90 nm, the question of the transition to 65 nanometers - a major step forward.

When we talk about the use of imported electronic component base in our products, we have to admit that it has in our products. Sometimes they share well above 50 percent. For example, in the space industry, it surpasses 90 percent. Although, as you know, for that area, which we are doing for the defense industry and military space this overarching objective. Very big money is spent and a lot of energy is diverted for inspection of foreign electronic components. Especially at the space and military.

    - So you do not agree with those who say that the chips can be bought abroad, no harm in it is not?

    - This is absolutely not correct. Of course, we will have to buy chips abroad, but it must be remembered that the presence of its own microelectronics - is a matter of national security. This is directly related to the increasing role of information technology and the need for cyber security in all areas of society.

    - How do you see Concern "RTI" in the future?

    - Concern is growing. We will develop a number of new directions. We do not accidentally completed the acquisition of "Envision." We are convinced that we will leaders in system integration with the acquisition of the company. Because this is a very serious, mobile, fast team. This is one of the best teams in the market today. The integration of this team with our systems integration division will give us a new quality in the area.

Today we aggressively go in space technology. Sooner or later, there's go to an adult. And it will also be linked to the acquisition of the assets involved in space technology. And, of course, we will develop our own technology, we are working - information, communication technology, and radio engineering. Concern is growing!

    One finished .....

In the Kuban put on combat duty new radar "Voronezh DM".

RBC 06.06.2013, 16:00:08 Armavir in the Krasnodar region on alert radar set (RLS), a new generation of "Voronezh DM" system of missile warning, reported to the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, the commander of the Aerospace Defense Major General Alexander Golovko on satellite videoconferencing line of Armavir.

"Armavir separate radio center on alert atonement" - said A.Golovko.

In turn, the commander of a separate radio center, Colonel Vladimir Severs told reporters that the commissioning of a new radar station in Armavir fully compensate for Russia's refusal to use Gabala radar station in Azerbaijan.

"This station is fully compensates for Russia's withdrawal from Azerbaijan and Ukraine. According to its performance characteristics, the station is able to maintain control missile-threat directions in its area of responsibility," - said V.Severov.

According to him, the station shows a good hourly flux of cosmic objects. "The station is capable of detecting both ballistic and aerodynamic targets and space objects", - he stressed.

Also, he said, the radar station in Armavir operates in UHF band, and therefore its accuracy is much higher than that of the previous generation stations.

Construction of another one started ....

Construction of an early-warning radar in Barnaul

Russia began construction of a new Voronezh-DM early-warning radar near Barnaul. The radar is expected to be ready for service in 2016, although it could begin limited operations earlier.

The radar in Barnaul will be the fourth Voronezh-DM radar in the existing early-warning network. Two are deployed in Armavir and one in Kaliningrad. The report suggested that the radar site will be located near village of Konyukhi - as reader SL suggested, this might be the former Shadrino airfield south of Konyukhi.

The report suggests that new early-warning radars will be built in Omsk and Orenburg regions.

With 7 new ones by 2018.

Russia 2018 will commission seven new radar

MOSCOW, June 6 - RIA Novosti. Russia until 2018, put into operation seven new radar, said Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"Prior to 2018 will be commissioned seven more such stations", - Putin said Thursday during a visit to the Central Command Post of the armed forces of the Russian Federation.
The President recalled that in December 2011 in the Leningrad region to intercede on alert radar "Voronezh-M", is now put on the duty station "Voronezh-DM" in Armavir.

"In this way we will strengthen our security guarantees, and is on the highest priority," - he said.
Speaking about the new radar, the President noted that in April-May, she successfully passed the state tests and confirmed the high performance characteristics. "Modern radar should be an important link in the system of missile warning, seriously enhance the combat potential of aerospace defense of Russia in the southern and south-western strategic direction," - said the head of state. He noted that the new radar will replace the old station "Dnepr" and Daria, "which were in the Ukraine and Azerbaijan. According to Putin, the new station is able to look" beyond the horizon "and can pinpoint even the most inconspicuous goal, in a fraction of a second to detect missile launches of various types for hundreds and even thousands of kilometers from the Russian border.

As previously reported, the construction of the radar type "Voronezh" will start in the Krasnoyarsk region, the Altai region and in the Orenburg region. Radar - the key elements of the missile warning. In October 2012 held the position of commander of the aerospace defense Oleg Ostapenko said that the construction and upgrading of radar stations (radar) system of missile warning will be completed ahead of schedule - 2020.

With the ABM treaty no longer in effect these radars can also scan Russian airspace and be used for air defence including looking up into space for incoming threats as part of a battle management system.

Russia Has Best Missile-Defense Radars – Senior Official

Russia has an “absolute lead,” “no one else can match these stations,” Deputy Defense Minister Yury Borisov said after visiting a Voronezh-M radar in Siberia’s Irkutsk Region.

The Voronezh-M has greatly surpassed previous-generation systems, in particular the Dnepr, the official said, adding that the Voronezh-M had a range of 6,500 kilometers, higher resolution and a broader field of vision.

The radar system will “reliably protect our southeastern sector and the northeastern part of the Pacific,” he said.

His comments echoed ones last month by General Staff chief Valery Gerasimov, who said Russia was building a new aerospace defense system that would guarantee detection of enemy ballistic and long-range cruise missiles at blastoff.

The system would feature advanced information-gathering, data-processing and attack capabilities with an early-warning radar system to be deployed along the entire Russian border, Gerasimov said.

This is extremely impressive. However, I think today there is another aspect to intelligence that needs to be considered. To me, this is the internet, associated technologies and also financial movements.

America is very strong on this. Far TOO strong infact, as has been demonstrated by Snowden. I hope Russia will take steps on this. And I'm sure it will.
