During the last year’s championship in Canada’s Saint John, the Russian team also took the bronze medals.

MOSCOW, April 13. /TASS/. Russian national ice hockey team’s players Alexander Radulov, Denis Denisov and Nikita Zaitsev are likely to miss the 2015 IIHF World Championship in the Czech Republic next month due to sustained injuries, CSKA club Director General Igor Yesmantovich told TASS on Monday.

All three national ice hockey team’s players are from the CSKA Moscow club and sustained injuries as a result of the semifinal encounters against SKA St. Petersburg for the national championship’s trophy, the Gagarin Cup.

"Additional medical examination proved that the players sustained serious injuries," Yesmantovich said in an interview with TASS. "As of now, the chances of their participation as part of the national squad at the forthcoming World Championship are ruled out by the degree of the injuries they sustained."

Yesmantovich added that representatives of the national team would discuss an issue of their eligibility with the management of CSKA Moscow before making a final decision on the players’ participation in the national squad at the 2015 IIHF World Championship.

Late last month the head coach of reigning World Champions Russia, Oleg Znarok, gathered the squad for its first practice ahead of the much-anticipated international tournament, to be held in Czech cities of Prague and Ostrava between May 1 and 17.

To the delight of Russian hockey fans, the national squad changed beyond recognition after Znarok teamed up with the squad last year leading it to the champion’s title at the 2014 IIHF World Championship in Belarus.

Russian world champion’s title followed disappointing performance at 2013 World Championship, when it was knocked out from the quarterfinals after being creamed 3-8 by the United States.

Another disappointing performance followed at 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Russia’s resort city of Sochi, where the Russian squad failed once more to clear the quarterfinals stage losing on its home ice 1-3 to Finland.

Russia’s most recent titles of world champions were conquered in 2008, 2009, 2012 and 2014. The 2008 title was a real treat for Russian hockey fans as it came to the team after a 15-year drought. That title Russia snatched from Canada, which was hosting the World Championship for the first time in its history, with 5-4 victory in overtime.

IIHF President Offers to Add Chinese Team to Kontinental Hockey League

International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) President Rene Fasel said that it might be profitable for Russian sports to add a Chinese team to the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL).

SOCHI (Sputnik) — Asia has a huge marketing potential for ice hockey, so it might be profitable for Russian sports to add a Chinese team to the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) President Rene Fasel told R-Sport Tuesday.

“Asia for me is a place where we have a huge potential to develop our game [ice hockey]… We play in the East, Vladivostok, Khabarovsk, and you know Russia is a huge, big country. So, also maybe there is something to do with China. Maybe in the future, why not to have some Chinese team participating in the KHL?” Fasel said.

The sports official explained that more attention should be paid to new marketing ideas in order to increase sports funding in Russia.

“The main issue for Russian sport for sure is that at the moment it is paid by government and oligarchs… and we should try to find a way that the incomes should come from other resources,” Fasel said, suggesting getting additional funds from marketing and TV.

Fasel said he wants to discuss this issue with Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko and KHL representatives.

The Kontinental Hockey League is an international professional hockey association founded in 2008. It consists of 28 member clubs from 7 countries and is considered the premier ice hockey league in Eurasia.

The International Ice Hockey Federation is a worldwide governing body for ice hockey, which comprises 73 members. Rene Fasel has been IIHF president since 1994.

they are now banning the competition..  This is done in retaliation to Vic Wilde

SO because the US government cannot compete in that event.. they decided asked to remove
the event from Winter Games.. and replace it for another sport events that only 2 nations
practice.. US and CANADA..

attack were civilians die will ruin the entire event.

IF americans ban Russia from world cup 2018.. Russia also have the option to create a new organization and continue with it.. but without americans ,and Europeans who support
the removing of Russia from the event..  That will be a really good measure of power and world leadership..  Im really sure americans will be isolated in the world if Russia refuse to
withdraw from 2018 and call anyone to attend regardless of what americans say.. it will be
really embarrassing if Russia runs the entire show without them and his monkey followers.

thats true, and in a lot of sports forums fans from all over the world have criticized that change. Big air events that will replace parallel slalom are US dominated and considering that are judging events americans can win first place although arent the best in performance...
