.Disqualification of Kamila Valieva CAS destroys world sport, by Elena Karaeva for RiaNovosti. 01.29.2024.
The current phase of the Olympic movement is politicized by the United States - to a fault.
After a de facto ban on our participation in the Games, the CAS ( Court of Arbitration for Sport ) decided to disqualify one of the strongest figure skaters in the world, our Kamila Valieva for four years.
Start of ineligibility - date of discovery of the “prohibited substance”: December 25, 2021. Accordingly, Kamila will be deprived of all other people’s awards.
The discovery became known during the Beijing Olympics, exactly between the team triumph of the Russian figure skaters and the rollback of the individual program. By a strange coincidence (it happens!) Naturally, American athletes came second in the discipline.
On the other side of the Atlantic, the press is now - and just as understandably - rejoicing, predicting exactly how the Russians will be deprived of Olympic gold. Giving it to American women. Actually, if I wanted to clarify the names of the customers and beneficiaries of this whole story, I didn’t have to look far, nor did I have to think long about who might benefit from this scandal. Today. And who benefited then?
The reasons for creating an artificial and completely meaningless hype are also understandable; in first, second, third and so on places is the desire to “bury” stronger rivals. The court was given the opportunity to eliminate America's competitors . In the States, sport, needless to say, is as pure and pure as a baby’s tear.
And the incidents of cyclist Lance Armstrong or the same Carl Lewis, who were caught regularly and regularly using prohibited substances, but were not only then allowed to participate in competitions, but also won medals in them, are nothing more than special cases and “shortcomings of local work.”
Because this is America and because there is always a “different situation”. We agree with the first statement. Yes, the United States, suffering from the “lonely giant” syndrome, behaved and behaves like a hooligan from the gateway, whom they are afraid to cross. And no, there is no “other situation”, what then, what today is not, and could not be. Either you win by working and denying yourself everything for the sake of winning, or you pump yourself up on pills. Armstrong beat his chest, shouting: “I never used any doping!” True, they pinned him down, because it was no longer possible to pretend that everything was OK.
And Lewis absolutely got away with it. His explanation that he "accidentally ate the wrong thing" was accepted as evidence of ignorance and lack of malice. And in general, according to the Americans, the athlete has taken the path of correction. Therefore, international anti-doping authorities have already lined up so as not to interfere with Lewis’s correction.
The attitude towards Kamila Valieva was organized according to a completely different scenario, and I can’t even call it anything other than bullying.
Starting from the date of publication of the test results (remember that our figure skater was 15 years old at that time) and ending with a powerful campaign in the media and social networks to destabilize the girl on the eve of the most important competition.
By the way, in addition to Lewis “Whoever Remembers the Old, Look Away,” who came out unscathed, one can also name Simone Biles . She was such a champion, the best, the coolest, “beating all her rivals in one fell swoop,” who was unable to cope with something so mental, which led to her self-withdrawal from the competition at the Tokyo Olympics two years ago.
Then, and very casually, the Biles-friendly press said that “due to the rules for the import of psychotropic drugs into the Land of the Rising Sun, the athlete was deprived of taking her usual medications.” And then the gymnast herself said that she swallowed, in particular, amphetamine - “on a doctor’s prescription and for therapeutic purposes,” and so, of course, she believes in “clean sport.” Of course, no possible claims reached any CAS, and all those who, by virtue of their positions - and receiving astronomical salaries - should, in theory, defend “sport without tablets,” said with one voice: “This is our girl, and we are her You haven’t even seen the drugs, and anyway, why are you bothered?”
To such a unanimous “no,” of course, there is no Court of Arbitration for Sport. Those who are dissatisfied can cool off and drink some water.
CAS, by its own will or under pressure, has turned into an instrument for settling scores, that is, into a repressive apparatus, to call a spade a spade. And we couldn’t expect any other decision from the repressive apparatus regarding our athlete. And in general, if you understand that after the abolition of our culture came the turn of the abolition of our sport, then this news did not cause any surprise, and it could not have caused any.
And most importantly, today’s document has a very limited geographical effect, since it is definitely not recognized here and Kamila will continue, if she deems it necessary, to compete where and when she likes it.
Our happiness - and this word can be used here without embarrassment or doubt - is that our sport, following the economy, becomes sovereign, that is, independent from other people's political games, as well as from the desire to conform to someone else's agenda. And also from the system of medal, team and other classifications. The time for measuring with someone else's yardstick has expired.
And this is actually very cool.
And Kamila, our beloved champion, can only wish new victories today. Ours - and therefore real.

Re: Russia Sports News:
Macron's words make Russian participation in the Olympics unpatriotic, by Denis Mirolyubov, editor in chief of Invoice Media for VZGLYAD. 03.21.2024.
A document was published separately, which specifies the principles of participation in the Games. It is noteworthy that this paper was prepared exclusively for Russians and Belarusians, but does not contain an official translation into Russian. These are the charters these days.
They gave birth. This is the best word to describe the decision of the executive committee of the International Olympic Committee, which finally announced the final requirements for athletes from Russia and Belarus who will be able to qualify and get to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
This document, so to speak, has been awaited for many months. Russian sports authorities needed to understand whether domestic athletes could get to the Games without risking a whole bunch of problems. But it has now become clear that athletes will not have to sign declarations of political neutrality. However, each specific candidate will be approved.
There are only six admission criteria. Firstly, athletes from Russia and Belarus can enter the Olympics exclusively as neutrals, and they will be designated as Individual Neutral Athletes. Secondly, the “happiness” of performing at competitions, where there should be no place for politics, is allowed only to single athletes - in team events in Russia and Belarus it is not allowed to compete. Thirdly, athletes who support the SVO or are at least somehow noticed to sympathize with their native country will definitely be deprived of access. Fourthly, a ban from the IOC is guaranteed for athletes who entered into contracts with military structures. The same applies to representatives of support staff. Also, athletes must comply with all anti-doping standards (but it cannot be ruled out that “violations” will be quickly invented). Finally, all individual athletes are required to sign a pledge to abide by the Olympic Charter, which, let me remind you, includes a clause on the peaceful mission of the Olympic movement. Roughly speaking, you need to sign up for things that the IOC itself does not comply with.
But the outright circus begins next. A document was published separately, which specifies the principles of participation in the Games. It is noteworthy that this paper was prepared exclusively for Russians and Belarusians, but does not contain an official translation into Russian. These are the charters these days. The main motive of this document is that neutral athletes must comply with everything, have no rights to anything, can always be suspended, etc. The same applies to fans from Russia and Belarus, who are not allowed to wave flags that even remotely resemble the flags of Russia and Belarus, respectively. Athletes who managed to win medals will receive them along with diplomas for their performances, but their results, most likely, will not be included in the Games table.
The only plus is that this whole Olympic bacchanalia can affect only 36 Russian athletes, unless, of course, they are removed by the “admission group.” It is obvious that this group will drown under the “compromising evidence” provided by the Ukrainian side - and they will always find something to come up with. This means that a lot of “surprises” will await the arriving athletes from Russia. I have no doubt that there will be provocations through the roof, and most likely there will be unprovoked accusations.
With the IOC, which is clearly exceeding its powers, everything is clear. Everything is also clear with democracy, the West and its values. Of course, the Russian Foreign Ministry has already expressed its “fie” about the admission rules and the actions of the IOC in general. But it won't change anything.
Moreover, frankly speaking, there is no unity on this issue in Russia itself. Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko believes that it is still necessary to go to the Games, despite the proposed conditions. State Duma deputy Svetlana Zhurova proposed a certain alaverda to the IOC, namely, not to answer until the last day whether we will participate. And the President of the All-Russian Federation of Rhythmic Gymnastics, Irina Viner, is sure that the anthem, under which the IOC invites neutral athletes to perform, is nothing more than a funeral march - and humiliation in this way is unacceptable.
In such a situation, you shouldn’t expect unity from athletes either. Everyone will decide for themselves. And in the same way, every fan has the right to his own attitude to everything that happens.
I believe that in this situation, Wiener’s opinion is closer to most citizens, including me. Especially considering that Paris and Emmanuel Macron personally have recently threatened Russia with sending troops to Ukraine. Going to the Games in such circumstances is at least unpatriotic. And, at the most, a betrayal of one’s homeland. Going to the Olympics now is like being a captive jester in front of a foreign master.
Athletes today should forget about personal ambitions, especially since they have alternatives in the form of, for example, the Friendship Games. And collectively show the IOC the middle finger - it has long deserved it.

Re: Russia Sports News:
The IOC was barking at sportsmen from around the world not to participate in the Friendship Games in Russia. So Russia should boycott and bypass the IOC
until the IOC stops being a NATzO condom, which is not any time soon.
All "international" institutions that are NATzO condoms, for example the WHO, need to be boycotted by Russia as enemy outfits with the explicit purpose
of doing Russia harm. In the process people around the world will benefit from suppression of the reach of these corrupt tools of NATzO's self anointed
masters of the universe.

Re: Russia Sports News:
RacistFirstly, athletes from Russia and Belarus can enter the Olympics exclusively as neutrals
Remember the west showing the Ukro flag at any sporting event?where there should be no place for politics
Just like the Americans and Brits after they attacked Iraq.Thirdly, athletes who support the SVO or are at least somehow noticed to sympathize with their native country will definitely be deprived of access.
Just kidding.
Will Israeli soldiers be banned from the Games???Fourthly, a ban from the IOC is guaranteed for athletes who entered into contracts with military structures.
While the Games are being held in a NATO state which had until recently a number of military engagements in Africa.includes a clause on the peaceful mission of the Olympic movement
Some Jews were allowed to participate in Berlin in 1936.Athletes who managed to win medals will receive them along with diplomas for their performances, but their results, most likely, will not be included in the Games table.
These special rules make the IOC worse than Nazi Germany.

Re: Russia Sports News:
Domestic football is learning to play without Europe, by Denis Mirolyubov for VZGLYAD. 06.04.2024.
Just as the Russian economy did not die from sanctions, but received an incentive to develop, so Russian football began to develop at an accelerated pace. Yes, without star legionnaires it has become somewhat more boring, but the Russian national team regularly receives a large number of new talented young people.
It's finished. St. Petersburg Zenit once again, for the sixth time in a row, took RPL gold, thereby successfully celebrating its 99th anniversary. But, unlike in previous years, even Sergei Semak’s team did not believe in such a miraculous outcome in the last round. The blue-white-blues, who gave Krasnodar and Dynamo a chance for first place, had to not only defeat Rostov at home, but also believe that Dynamo would lose to that same Krasnodar away. And so it happened.
Dynamo, which surprisingly had the best chances for gold, lost to Krasnodar. It’s logical - Dynamo just needed not to lose, and they went out onto the field to defend the zeros and completely forgot about attacking. This always or almost always ends in a fiasco - the final 0:1 not in favor of Dynamo did not come as a surprise. Zenit, although not without difficulty, beat Rostov and took another championship title.
In fact, the RPL almost repeated the 2016/2017 season, when Zenit was just as unstable. But then Moscow “Spartak” did not give up theirs and took advantage of the mistakes of the St. Petersburg team. Likewise, Bayer Leverkusen took advantage of Bayern's dire fortunes this year to take the league title for the first time in their history.
This year, Spartak essentially failed the season. It can be described by one action of the red-and-white keeper, who, out of anger and hopelessness at the end of the game with Orenburg, planted his fist on his opponent in a place where it is better not for men to plant him.
It’s a shame for “Dynamo” - the team seemed to be nothing of itself, but it had a shock ending to the season and fell just short of reaching gold, which had not been achieved for 48 years. It’s also a shame for Krasnodar, which, unlike the German Bayer, did not show stability throughout the season and, as a result, once again delayed the realization of the dream of the club owner, Sergei Galitsky.
What's next? With Zenit, everything is clear - the richest team in the country will continue to buy the best Russian players, specifically feeding the roster with Latin Americans. It is already known that the St. Petersburg team is planning to take Krasnodar right-back Sergei Volkov. And he won't be the last newcomer. It is no secret that the hegemon of Russian football needs a restructuring, and a radical one at that. Nevertheless, Zenit’s capabilities, both financial and administrative, are too great for anyone to prevent the St. Petersburg team from taking another gold in the next season, which begins on July 20.
“Krasnodar” risks losing its best players: Eduard Spertsyan is almost 100% likely to go to a top foreign club, as is Russian national team goalkeeper Matvey Safonov, who is about to be bought by the French “PSG”. And selling off the leaders is unlikely to give the club a chance at gold next season.
Dynamo and Spartak most likely will not be able to make any breakthrough in development. The first - due to not the largest budgets and against the backdrop of possible sales of the two best players. The latter do not betray themselves - stable “Spartak” is either in fairy tales or in memories from the 1990s.
There is nothing special to say about the other clubs: Lokomotiv, Rostov, Rubin or CSKA are unlikely to make any breakthroughs. Everything will be exactly the same. Russian teams will continue to occasionally strengthen themselves with interesting foreign players and rely on the development of their own youth. And this is good. Especially considering that the completed RPL season not only produced many new Russian-made stars, but was also perhaps the most interesting in Europe. If not in terms of the level of football, then at least in terms of intrigue until the very last seconds.
It’s bad that democratic Europe is not going to return our teams to European competition. And this is minus money, status, prestige and the opportunity for the best Russian players to shine on the international stage. The same applies to the national team, which will not be allowed to participate in the next World Cup and Euro, and will be forced to look for opponents from friendly countries, testing only new players and youth. There will be little sense from this, because any national team needs international tournaments, to which they are not going to return us.
But sanctions can be a huge driver for moving forward. And although it is customary for us to scold and ridicule Russian football, we are already seeing serious results from the ban. More and more young guys are playing in the squads of domestic clubs, who previously had almost no chance due to the dominance of second-rate foreigners. And the longer UEFA and FIFA do not allow Russia into the international arena, the more young people will grow into great professionals.
Just as the Russian economy did not die from sanctions, but received an incentive to develop, so Russian football began to develop at an accelerated pace. Yes, it has become more boring without star legionnaires, but the Russian national team regularly receives a large number of new talented young people. It is she who will lead the national team forward when these “democratic” suspensions fade into oblivion.

Re: Russia Sports News:
Screw Europe, Russia should be playing in the Asian league... likely only Japan and maybe South Korea might object, but who cares about them.
The money will be a lot less but a lot less is better than no money and no games like they are getting now.
Plus you wont be playing games against countries actively funding terrorists and nazis to kill your soldiers.... that is a bit of a bonus I would say.

Re: Russia Sports News:
Euro-philia has been a problem for Russia for centuries. The Russian mindspace is corrupted with "European" identity. This is in spite of Europe being a perpetual source of
pain for Russia (like for the rest of the world). Russians need to stop thinking that they are European. They are distinct. Europeans have proven over and over that they
hate Russia and Russians. They will never be friends.
Russian sports does not need the EU. I think the departure of Big Money football is a good thing for this sport in Russia. Importing talent for the few slots available means
reduced room for domestic talent.

Re: Russia Sports News:
Russia better represents the practise of European values and morality than the countries of Europe do.
How ironic is that?
Russia is better off without the west until the west grows up and finds a few morals and ethics and gets a bit of maturity.
Otherwise they are wasting their time.

Russian sports does not need the EU. I think the departure of Big Money football is a good thing for this sport in Russia. Importing talent for the few slots available means
reduced room for domestic talent.
I disagree, we are Europeans and there is no shame in that. Yes we have some Asiatic influence and so on but no different then the way Bulgaria and the rest of the Balkans do, Italy and Spain have North African admixture and cultural adoptions, Finland and Hungary are from Asia originally outright, and so on
The real problem is this emergence of a pan-European identity founded on these alleged 'values' that are basically a collection of borrowings from America together with some outright perversions.
And with said European identity being exclusive of Russia and antagonistic to Russia. In the same manner that the European identity that Hitler tried to build was.
European countries either need to rediscover their separate national identities like Hungary has and start to draw on them to define their own national interests, or continue the pan-European project but build a new European identity that accepts Russia, and the rest of the 'jungle' that Borrell referred to, and that in general makes more sense and is less self-destructive.
That doesn't mean that I'm in favour of entering the EU or some such. Our path forward is with the BRICS, and the rest of the world regardless. It would be great if at least some European countries can join us on that in the future.

Re: Russia Sports News:
Europeans have the highest moral and ethical codes of conduct and have broken every single one throughout their history over and over.
Judge a man on his own standards... something they could never do... but when done to them they fail.
They have destroyed the words peace, diplomacy, cooperation, democracy, even words like terrorist and freedom fighter... and no, those words are not interchangeable. A terrorist will kill anyone at all to force the change they want. A freedom fighter is very careful to only attack and fight his enemies... and only his enemies military or police and not civilian populations.
There are enormous numbers of other word abuses that just make words meaningless... climate change is an example... and an example of hipocracy... the west wants people to stop using fossil fuels and use electric vehicles... but not Chinese ones or foreign ones that are better than the ones they want you to buy and also much cheaper and more affordable... even though the parts all come from the same factories in China.
Europeans and westerners are scum... I should know... I am one.
When I sign legal documents here in New Zealand I have to identify as European. Never been there and not interested in ever going... isn't it hilarious that I am European, yet not only have I never been there, have no interest to go there... even for a short period of time, while the very definition of Europe actually mentions the Ural mountains and for a while white men were described officially as Caucasian males... but current Europe rejects Russia and Russians and is openly funding and supporting nazis to kill them.
I am sure there are plenty in Europe worth saving... I would say even the ones on here... including the unpopular ones... but that is just me... I have always been to nice for my own good... some people take advantage of that and I have to keep very wary... a lot of people in the west don't care about the harm they have done in the world and just want to keep the world as it is... a former French member springs to mind when I think of that.
When someone hates you and tries to destroy you, don't ask them why and what you need to change so they will like you... take the hint... they thought you were a tick on their side bleeding them of their culture and technology... and for the crumbs they threw you you kept them supplied them with energy and resources below cost... but if they cut you off you would starve and eventually come crawling back begging to be allowed back offering anything the EU and US wanted and they could pick and choose and eat you alive, but now they are starting to realise who had the resources and who the vampire was... they still have their sharp teeth and will bite any chance they get... don't give them that chance.
There is a whole world out there that want to trade and will treat you with the respect you deserve, and you both can make a very good living and improve standards of living in Russia and around the world.
Ween yourself off the west... it wont just be good for Russia... they don't understand it yet but it will actually be good for the west too... THEY FUCKING FUNDED NAZIS TO KILL YOU.
Just being open to friendship is nice, but as Lavrov has said... this generation of Russians should not trust anything the west says or does... it is going to take a lot of work from the west to say sorry and prove they have learned their lessons... and ALL western governments except for Hungary and Turkey are still trying to damage Russia with sanctions and economic and actual military attacks via nazis.
Putin is patient but he sees the problem and understands the west wont be friendly till they need help and Russia has to be sure it is not going to get screwed again like it is being screwed and attacked now and the last 35 years.
Celebrating the defeat of Nazism in Europe while funding it again now and not inviting Russia... well obviously no Russian diplomat could ignore the irony of asking Russia to celebrations defeating Nazism in Europe in WWII and funding nazism to destroy Russia ever since that war ended to date....

Re: Russia Sports News:
Anyhow back on topic, the BRICS games are starting in Kazan
IMO what's needed to put these games into the mainstream consciousness are a series of video games commissioned covering the sports and the athletes, with triple-AAA graphics and presentation but also some innovative mechanics
The sports video game genre is dominated by single-developer monopolies. Konami with their eFootball series (what Pro Evo is called now), 2K games with the NBA 2K games, and EA Sports covering the NHL games. That's it, one developer per sport. Well okay, so FIFA still exists covering football too.
But basically it's an abnormal situation and really hurts innovation. I remember 20-25 years ago there were tons of competing football sims, and more arcade football games too. Tons of competing basketball games. Tons of different ice hockey games. What gives. Now they're the same stale products that are updated with year with new rosters and the latest graphic engines, but little else.
And commissioning a series of sports games covering the BRICS competition specifically would be a good way for aspiring developers to break into the segment, not to mention popularizing the BRICS games themselves.
Preferably developers from the BRICS nations themselves of course. Out of all the BRICS members the only countries with serious video game developers are Russia and China; and the Russian ones in particular are going to be starved of opportunities after having been curtailed in their market access. Get some of them on the job. Of course there is in principle nothing wrong with commissioning Japanese, US, European video game companies too if the BRICS ones are not up to the task. Main thing is that they turn out good.
A tennis game. A boxing game. An equestrian sports game, why not. And a sort of compilation athletics game covering lifting, swimming, rowing, gymnastics, sprinting, hurdling and long jumping.
I think they already do phygital football and basketball at the BRICS games which means they must be using existing video games as well, will be interesting to know which ones and who made them; as they can then be turned into retail products as well if they aren't already.

Re: Russia Sports News:
I played hockey but really was not interested in other sports when I was younger and in terms of computer games there was really only one sports game I actually liked and that was Sensible Soccer. It was very well done and didn't bother with details I didn't care about.
Obviously someone who loves soccer would love being able to play certain teams and with certain players, and would get into a really detailed game, but the old sensible soccer was all I really wanted in a soccer game.
I do remember playing a baseball game... it was similar to the game the kid in the movie the Princess Bride was playing when his grandpa came to read him a story...
Otherwise I preferred shootemup games and simulators.
Being able to make a sports game better than existing sports games would be rather ambitious and likely not so cheap, but with the benefit that you could use Russian and Chinese and Indian and developers from the BRICS countries and obviously the market will be BRICS countries which is substantial in terms of population and growing rapidly all the time as countries enter.
I would add that the post above by me is not off topic simply because the west is making politics a part of international sport... while saying they are not making sports political...
Like I said... words don't mean what they mean when a western politician is talking.

Re: Russia Sports News:
As a kid I played both Sega Worldwide Soccer 98 and Decathlete on the Sega Saturn, the later of which covered Summer Olympics events such as hurdling/high jumps/sprinting/shot-put/javelin. Both brilliant games.
Played ISS 64 with my friend on the N64 which was a great football game as well.
Played Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 quite a bit on the computer a few years later.
I actually picked up Sensible World of Soccer a few years ago on GOG for the PC, haven't had the opportunity to play it much but I do quite like what I have played of it.
What all these games have in common is that they're not pure simulations. In fact far from it. Their main priority is just fun. And they're all very fun against the AI too, multiplayer is not a necessity although of course it does add to the experience.
All the sports games on the market today though go for as much realism as can currently be simulated and the physical controllers allow. As a result they all take a huge investment in time to get into, and are only attractive to fans of these sports where more casual players as you mentioned Garry, won't necessarily care about all these details - they just want to be able to pick up the game and enjoy it immediately.
As I also mentioned, there's no competition, for each sport type you have a single developer monopolizing it and just releasing a slightly updated game each year. It's the textbook example of how a lack of market competition leads to stagnation.
At university I played a lot of Pro Evolution Soccer with my friends as it's all they ever played - but I never got into it myself, there's too much to learn and I simply sucked at it. And I didn't appreciate all the attention to detail that game had and all the moves, stats and whatever.
I also played Fight Night Round 3 with friends which wasn't a bad boxing game at all and wasn't hard to figure out. That's another good example of a simpler sports game that's easy to pick up and play
You're right it is an ambitious undertaking, but I did name simpler and more secondary sports which is what is played at the BRICS games anyway. And it's not neccessary to make them as ultra-realistic as possible, a good balance between realism and arcade game elements should be the goal. Add a BRICS games license and the official players and there you go. The aim is to create a champion title in at least one of these sports and then ambitions can grow from there. And either way, it will all help to popularize the BRICS games.
Also a Russian Ice Hockey game covering the Russian league should be another priority. The only thing you have out there are EA's NHL games which don't cover the Russian league. They even removed the Russian national team from the series and the Russian language localization after the SMO started.
And ice hockey is huge in Russia. Definitely a big opportunity here.
I'm not a hockey or basketball fan at all. I tried a bit of basketball as a teenager but I don't even remember the rules properly. But that won't prevent me playing a basketball game that was easy to learn and a blast to play. Ditto for ice hockey.

Re: Russia Sports News:
France couldn't, by Irina Alksnis for RiaNovosti. 07.27.2024.
The Paris Olympics, born under an unlucky star, have finally started. Although even their official start was blurred, since the main news of yesterday was not the opening ceremony, but the transport collapse that covered France and affected 800 thousand passengers, a considerable part of whom are heading (but it is unclear when they will get there) to the Games. Moreover, the cause of the disruptions was not the signature French strikes known throughout the world, but sabotage and diversions - deliberate arson, in which law enforcement agencies, surprisingly, suspect not our country, but their own ultra-leftists. However, it is not without strikes either - in particular, yesterday the employees of the Parisian five-star hotel, where the IOC members are staying, held a protest.
In general, the image of a totally unsuccessful Olympics - with dirty waters of the Seine , Paris blocked off by prisons , flagrant street crime (which is not at all hindered by draconian security measures), and now also sabotage - was created for the Games even before their official start. The question is whether it will be possible to reverse the negative image.
In principle, the world knows such examples. More than ten years ago, the world (and domestic) press launched a completely wild, months-long campaign to defame the Sochi Olympics. What they didn’t say about it, what horror stories, revelations and accusations they didn’t publish in the run-up to the Games. The hysteria was so intense that a considerable number of Russians were mentally prepared for the upcoming event to be a colossal failure and a complete disgrace for the country. The reality turned out to be even more shocking when, even before the start of the Olympics, it became obvious that Russia had organized a wonderful sporting event. As a result, by the opening ceremony, most of the ill-wishers shut up and only the most persistent continued to find shortcomings and rough spots, but they only looked even more pitiful in their efforts.
In general, theoretically the French have a chance to correct the already formed public opinion about their Olympics - but it is worth admitting that this chance is small. If the "black" propaganda campaign against Sochi was purposefully charged - its organizers ignored reality, forming media phantoms and counting on the fact that reality would be close to them, then the red carpet was initially rolled out for Paris by the global media. France had to show the world that it and the West as a whole are still the pinnacle of human civilization, capable of organising a grand event with such brilliance that all sorts of authoritarian and destructive "world based on rules" Russia and China will only be left to bite their elbows. But problems, blunders and failures at the stage of organizing the Games began to emerge from the French with such regularity that even the most loyal journalists could not ignore them. So, thanks to the efforts of the organizers, the Paris Olympics became a source of memes long before they began, and the days leading up to the opening only confirmed the darkest fears.
What are the chances that the situation will suddenly change as if by magic and the Games will go off without a hitch? Obviously, it is very small.
It is much more likely that everything will continue in exactly the same vein - failure after failure will emerge, scandals will flare up and unaccounted problems will be revealed that have no thoughtful solution. And the Paris Olympics will become another signal to the world that the West and France in particular are done.
Because Macron, who dreamed so much of the Olympics for his country, is essentially right: for the masses, the Olympics are a celebration of sports and friendship between nations (although, of course, in recent years, even this idea has become obsolete), and for big politics, it is a demonstration by the state to its partners and competitors of its own state ambitions, organizational and resource capabilities. And if everything is unchanged with the ambitions and claims there, then the capabilities clearly no longer correspond to them. And so, we are left to admit, like the horse from the old joke: "Well, I couldn't, I couldn't."
We can only thank the West that Russia is not participating in this disgrace (as well as in Eurovision).

Re: Russia Sports News:
The so called "Rules Based International Order" needs a strong SLAP in the face. Russia should have seriously considered organizing a Massacre of the NATO Teams (US, UK, and France) during the games and with plausible deniability and make ISIS declare its behind the attacks. Would have been a just response to put NATzO pigs in place.

Re: Russia Sports News:
When you start behaving and doing things your enemy does then you have already lost your soul... there is no value in winning the war when you give up who you are to do it.
More importantly I think Russia is winning this war globally because the world can see Putin has respect and manners and follows the rules of law even when they don't suit him.
The west does as they please and will break any and every law as they see fit.
One has a future and the other does not.
You don't want to blur the lines now.
Let them have their stupid games.
Just continue killing the enemy as they come to the battlefield to fight Russia and destroy their resources as they are discovered deep behind enemy lines...
They are running out of men.
I know, I know... it sounds like winter is coming winter is coming.... but winter IS coming.

Re: Russia Sports News:
How do Russians feel about not participating in the 2024 Paris Summer Olympic Games? Are they disappointed and blame Putin or the West including the United States?
On another point, why doesn't Russia field better women's basketball teams that can challenge the United States? Is it because Russian women are afraid of the US or has basketball lost popularity?
During the time of the USSR, they won the gold medal in '76, '80 and in 1992 as the Commonwealth of Independent States.

the irony is that they banned russia from Olympics but a lot of countries have included russians as naturalised in their teams (mainly in wrestling) to obtain some medals

On another note, did the USSR send professionals to represent the Soviet men's basketball teams during the Cold War? This is what a lot of Americans accuse the Russians of during.
This is a quote from the article below:
"The teams greatly differed from each other. Olympic rules dictated that only amateur athletes could compete in the Games so America had several 20-year-old students in their ranks, leaving the professionals to watch from the sidelines or on TV. The same cannot be said for the Soviets, who called upon experienced veteran players who were not officially part of any sports associations – instead they were servicemen or members from social organizations."

Russia fielded the best teams it had. USA women's (as their men's) basketball teams are simply far better (not only to Russia but they are 1-2 classes above any other national team).
And also dont forget that USSR was composed of 15 states. So the level of USSR teams was superior

USA was the only team that participated with U21 teams. For the reason you mentioned (bold) . The reality is that during cold war in USA basketball (NBA) was clearly professional, but in Europe and rest of the world basketball was amateur. All these started to change in 80s so by 90s it was obvious that everything had gone professional so there was no reason for such a rule to exist anymore.

What do you think of the allegations of the Americans accusing Russians/Soviets of state sponsored doping, is it true?

The East Germans also had a state sponsored doping:

About using professionals, many Americans accuse Soviets of using them since they were hidden and listed as soldiers. They simply practice together.

In 2003, Lewis admitted that he had failed three tests for stimulants in 1988 and that Olympic executives had looked the other way.

USA also sponsored and still sponsor doping but IOC dont dare to punish them because they need their money
in USSR teams belonged to the state so top athletes were state-sponsored while retaining their status as amateurs. It wasnt sth illegal, that was the situation in eastern bloc and in football for example this was the reason that eastern bloc countries had advantage in olympics (they earned all the gold medals from 1952 to 1988 (excluding 1984)
