Mig-29M2 will be an excellent purchase for Serbia... not too expensive, fully multirole, able to carry and use a range of modern guided weapons including R-77.

I wish Bulgaria had enough money for these babies and even if we're in NATO we have to settle for either for gripen, EF2000 or used F-16. The Eurofighter and gripen are too expensive while F-16 is in no way better than the MiG-29s we already have

That's like half a squadron right? Or am I wrong (little idea 'bout fighter organisation)

    What's the status of Serbia's existing MiG-29s?

I think Serbia will buy weapons in phases.

Phase 1 (included modernization of its KUB systems)
    Phase 2 (6 MIG-29M/M2 + 2 radar system (Im thinking Protivnik-G)
    Phase 3 (6 more MIG-29M/M2 + S-300 + BUK-M2 + Pancir-S1)

Wish list from Serbian generals is certainly not small. But state of economy will dictate the speed of purchase.

As of now Serbia has 4 MIG-29 that where repaired for about 5 million $ each but are nearing end of its life.

From the official page of Serbian Army: interview with Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Army, General Ljubisa Diković

Defence Minister Aleksandar Vucic confirmed that Serbia to buy six Russian aircraft "Mig 29 M2". When will be arranged all the details of this business?

    - Equipping aircraft "Mig 29 M2" is a big step in that direction, and it is extremely important for our military aviation and the whole of Serbia. Together with Russian partners to do all that procurement is carried out as soon as possible, in accordance with prescribed procedures. I believe that all the details will be agreed to visit the Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu this fall. Do not just talk about planes, there are discussions and procurement systems for air defense. This resolve airspace control for the next few decades.

Many of the design features of the Pantsir-S1 were based on Serbian experience against NATO... the ability to fire on the move, the ability to defeat ARMs, the ability to hit targets at 15km altitude and the EO capability to track a much wider range of targets and engage them even in a heavy jamming environment were all part of the design.

The low cost of the missiles means they can be bought in enormous numbers so you are less likely to run out.

Also makes for an excellent peacetime SAM, since you can actually afford to train crews with the real thing or a close training round for cheap.

    Post  DisturbedOne93 Mon May 26, 2014 2:54 pm

According to him, it was agreed during the meeting to continue the cooperation between the two countries when it comes to military and military education, and that "in June or in the fall" agreements would be concluded "that have been awaited for almost two years."

Gašić specified that this concerned a loan worth USD 1.4 billion that would be used to purchase MiG warplanes.

In this video, he says that its for 6 MiGs and other stuff that was agreed upon. Im trying to figure out what else could be in the package. There was talk about purchasing the S-300 or S-350, Pantsirs, possibly Buk, 2 Radars, and helicopters. Perhaps, its actually more than 6 MiGs. Idk. Good news either way for Serbia!

Yeah, the defense minister said that they dont have enough of their own money to make these large purchases in their budget, that it would have to be worked out politically between countries using loans or trade credit. Then this appeared a few days ago. Also, the Serbian government said that they will not allow the floods to stop progress on any deals or negotiations in any department. We'll see in June or the fall what happens.

    Also from today:
The Minister also said that the trade credit to the Serbian Army was not the only cause of his recent visit to Moscow.
"Of course, this credit is very important for the modernization of the Serbian Army, in which we have to move at a faster pace than has so far been the case. There is also a range of other topics, we agreed on a common practice air-landing units in September, and we talked about all forms of military cooperation, which should be formulated protocol between the two governments, "said Gašić.

Serbia interested in weapons supplies from Russia — PM

Serbia will consider purchase of Russian combat helicopters, missile defense

BELGRADE, October 25. /TASS/. Serbia’s Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said on Sunday weapons supplies will be one of the topics for discussion during his visit to Russia due to take place next week.

"When we manufacture the Nora howitzer we need Kamaz frames that are capable of carrying more than 35 tonnes, and this is one of the grounds for talks with the Russians. Second topic is the artillery gun 242 we install on the Lazar armoured vehicle," he told journalists.

According to Vucic, his country has already ordered two transport helicopters from Russia. "Now we will have to and we have already begun to look at buying combat helicopters, because some of our neighbors have already received 16 Kiowa helicopters," he said [The US Congress approved supplies of 16 such helicopters to Croatia this year - TASS].

"We have to think about response in terms of ballistic missiles, though we seek no conflicts anywhere, with anyone ever. But we are simply to be prepared and are to know that Serbia has relevant forces for anyone who might think Serbia is an easy game," the Serbian prime minister stressed.

He said Serbia was keeping a close eye on what was going on in neighboring countries and "cannot allow any violation of the balance of forces in the region."

Although "Serbia is a small country and a small nation," it will always have as much means of defense as necessary, "so that no one could ever think of using force against Serbia," Vucic said, adding that his country’s government was tightly working on that matter.

Serbia Shows Interest in Russia's Thermal Weapon Sights

Director general of Argus-NV developer company said that Serbian company, supplying the country's security services, is interested in Russia-made Infratech thermal weapon sights.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – A Serbian company, supplying the country's security services, is interested in Russia-made Infratech thermal weapon sights, the director general of Argus-NV developer company, said Monday.

"Serbia expresses interest in our thermal weapon sights. We have been invited to Belgrade to make a presentation and demonstration of our developments," Anton Sofin told RIA Novosti.

Sofin said Vietnam and India were also among the countries interested in equipment produced by the company.

He added that the most significant advantage of Infratech thermal weapon sights was small size and light weight combined with high performance.

Argus-NV was created in 1997, and specializes in optical devices designed to operate in the dark. The company's devices are fully designed and manufactured domestically.
