    @Garry

Bolton already accused Russia of stealing US hypersonic tech even though the US has not fielded such systems. This is the
same lie-in-your-face chutzpah that the USA exhibits when it accuses Huawei of stealing and inserting spying functionality
in its equipment. The US liars never prove anything they claim. To them it is "proof by assertion".

The article I linked is retarded on every level. The LTFR wonder tech says nothing about new nuclear reaction pathways that
Russian scientists have likely discovered that enabled reactor miniaturization. The LTFR never concerned itself with reactor
size so it never would even account for neutron flux density problems associated with miniaturization. It is clear that
Russia has solved this problem and no f*cking yanqui can claim credit.

Note how similar this BS yanqui superiority prattle is to the Shkval torpedo case. Scientific American claimed that the
USA had worked on a similar concept during the 1950s. That is an example of real BS claims. They produced some schematic that
looked like a conventional torpedo and totally lacked the elements that made the Shkval functional and unique. Yanquis cannot
claim primacy in science and engineering since they couldn't even develop an oxygen rich staged combustion rocket engine and
use the RD-180 even today. The cryogenic Space Shuttle engine does not count since the issue is high temperature metal alloys
    needed for non-cryogenic engines.

miketheterrible wrote:Did anyone explain to the writer that US nuclear company is bankrupt after Fukushima disaster? And that Russia is only nation with working fast breeder nuclear facility? Rosatom is one of the few remaining, profiting and general tech achiever of nuclear development left in the world.

Fukushima is not the source of the US nuclear industry failure. The US shot itself in the head when it put nuclear reactor deployment
on ice from the early 1980s. So Three Mile Island is likely to be one of the factors. But it is also the general anti-nuclear hysteria
in the USA generated by Hollywood and the sensationalist MSM. Western nuclear reactors are grossly overpriced since the west is rotten
with corruption. They cannot compete against Rosatom. Every single nuclear reactor project I am aware of in NATO is always massively
over budget. Such as the Darlington reactor in Ontario, Canada. Its final price was basically twice the initial contract price: $14
billion Canadian in early 1980s money. Today such a reactor would cost between 30 and 40 billion Canadian dollars. Rosatom can
beat such insane pricing without any effort. And Rosatom does not need to spend billions of dollars fixing cracks in the calandria
and assorted other racket tricks as was the case with the Darlington.

Russia has been a world leader in nuclear physics for decades. Some moron with his dick stroking, chauvinist "article" can't nullify
    this fact.

The Soviets worked on a similar concept in the early 1950s too... and the torpedo they put into service in 1952 was designated RAT52... just that the west didn't notice... It was air launched and on at least one test left the water and flew for about 3km before re-entering the water... wow those Americans are so amazing...

A new alloy for the aerospace industry has been created in Russia

Νew Technologies and Innovation Development in Russia - Page 24 V_rossii_sozdan_novyii_splav_dlya_aviakosmicheskoi_otrasli-zvlpr7rc-1561359781.t

Specialists of the Laboratory of Physics of High-Strength Crystals, SIPT TSU, within the framework of a joint grant from the Russian Science Foundation and the German Research Community (DFG), were able to create an innovative alloy with a shape memory.

According to the agency "MIR", the development will be very promising in the aviation and space sectors, as well as in robotics and the automotive industry. It is noteworthy that the employees of SIPT for the first time managed to create single crystals of alloys based on the compound iron-nickel-cobalt-aluminum. In this case, the fifth element is replaceable, and they can act niobium or titanium.

Such material in its properties is superior to titanium nickelide, which is used to create thermal sensors, implants, medical equipment, drives and other structures. In contrast, iron-based alloys recover better after deformation, said Anna Eftifeyeva, graduate student of the Faculty of Physics, engineer of the high-strength crystal physics laboratory.

It is worth noting that iron-based alloys are highly durable. This aspect plays a crucial role for devices that have to withstand enormous loads. As a rule, this applies to the engineering and aerospace industries. The advantages of the new items include lower manufacturing costs compared to titanium nickelide, added the head of the laboratory, professor Yuri Chumlyakov.

Well, except for 3 members of Yabloko and 1 independent moron.

It's funny too cause Yabloko won in richest part of Moscow. I think after they fuck up they won't be voted a single seat again for years.

Otherwise, 95% of the rest of the votes in the country went to United Russia. LDPR and KPRF gained though a ton of votes and as you said, they are no friends of the west.

Russia sets a world record for wireless data transfer speed

This happened not in the capital, and not in the laboratory, but in the far Siberian north, in the region of the small town of Igarka. A redundant 40-gigabit wireless bridge was built here, duplicating a 40-gigabit wired digital highway crossing the Yenisei River next to the bottom of the river.
Why did it take to build such a complex redundant system? To begin with, a recently built fiber-optic communication line (FOCL) with a speed of 40 Gbit / s was pulled to Taimyr to Norilsk from Novy Urengoy through swamps and impassable terrain. Having laid a cable line from one bank to another along the bottom of a huge Siberian river, the Russian signalmen realized that they could not do without a backup radio channel: the Yenisei was unpredictable during the ice drift, the risk of damage to the fiber optic link was very high, and the repair could take a long time. The task was complicated by the fact that the length of a stable powerful radio bridge was supposed to reach 11 kilometers, and the speed inherent in the technical task was still the same 40 Gbit / s (like a wire line). It would seem: how powerful advertising could be for different world famous brands, and they had to line up to fight for the right to write their name in history. But it was not there!
As it turned out, no well-known manufacturers of telecommunication equipment for radio data transmission decided to participate in the project, and did not respond to requests. The fact is, something that the Russians wanted, for the time being, at a speed of 40 Gbit / s, they can do so far at much more modest distances, and mainly in laboratories. German records of stable transmission over a distance of only 1.4 kilometers with speeds of 40 and 100 Gbit / s at a special training ground and 20 Gbit / s American at 13 km were recorded. And ours needed 40 Gbit / s and 11 kilometers! Yes, not at the training ground, but in northern conditions with an extreme climate. I had to deal with the domestic company “DOK” from St. Petersburg, in which a working model of a 40 Gbit / s radio bridge (link of 4 to 10 Gbit / s) for 4 km was already tested at its training ground. The customer was surprised
Initially, it seems easy: they made 4 parallel radio channels and got the desired total indicator. But in practice, mutual interference occurs, up to the point that communication on the radio frequency will cease to work at all. To solve the situation, signals are usually spread in frequency and different polarization of the signal is used - all this is not easy to implement in the hardware. St. Petersburg signalmen made the original circuitry on large microwave circuits based on gallium arsenide and were right. In early summer 2019, the first wireless channel was successfully tested on the banks of the Yenisei. Based on the test results, a full-fledged 40 Gb / s radio bridge was built, which was delivered to the customer at the end of summer.

The lame Shittons love to claim graphene is a British discovery, but it was a Soviet discovery, and the Russians are leading material science not the Shittons. Russian scientists are now utilizing graphene in a unique food-safety sensor:

Mold behind bars: Russian scientists have created a sensor to detect hazardous substances in products
Russian scientists have created a sensor that can detect the presence of certain hazardous substances in food. With it, you can detect toxins that produce mold fungi. The device is based on a graphene lattice, a form of carbon. According to the authors, the sensitivity of the sensor is almost 100 times higher than that of known analogues.

Russian experts in the field of nanoelectronics have created a working prototype of the sensor to determine the presence of mold and toxins in food products that it emits. The results are published in the journal Toxins The study was supported by the Russian Science Foundation.

Νew Technologies and Innovation Development in Russia - Page 24 Y2RuaS5ydC5jb20vcnVzc2lhbi9pbWFnZXMvMjAxOS4xMC9vcmlnaW5hbC81ZDkzMjRjYmFlNWFjOTUxOTkzMDVjOGMuanBnP19faWQ9MTI1MDU0

Hazardous substances produced by molds are called ochratoxins. One of these toxins - ochratoxin, A - does not break down even when heated or chemically treated, and is found everywhere - in cereals, fruits, in raw materials for making wine, beer and coffee. Russian researchers have decided to find an effective way to prevent toxic moldy products from reaching store shelves and the dining table.
“The purpose of our study is to create a quick, simple and cheap sensor for detecting ochratoxin, And in products at home ... One type of mold can produce several types of toxins. And in the future it is desirable to be able to determine all substances at once with one sensor. Manufacturing technology based on graphene just allows us to achieve this, ”said Ivan Bobrinetsky, project manager, leading researcher at the Moscow Institute of Electronic Technology.
As a basis for creating a prototype of the mold sensor and its toxins, the researchers used modified carbon - graphene. Specialists attached modified DNA sequences to the graphene lattice that selectively bind only ochratoxin molecules. Then, through the resulting device, they started up current. Upon contact with ochratoxin, the voltage changed - so scientists were able to determine the concentration of the harmful substance.

     :copyright: cdni.rt.com

The sensor works with great accuracy - scientists were able to determine the presence of ochratoxin from 4 picograms per milliliter, which is almost a thousand times less than the maximum permissible content of this substance in food. Also, the new sensor was able to recognize the toxin, which as an experiment was artificially added to red wine.
“Selectivity was almost 100 times higher than that of other known graphene sensors. Also our sensor is reusable. We showed the possibility of recovery: we can rinse it and continue measuring, ”Bobrinsky summed up.
In the future, the authors plan to address the problem of determining bacterial toxins in fresh water. They are also exploring the possibility of developing complex sensors to simultaneously detect a large number of different substances.

Baikal-M is simply an ARM processor. Its nothing special. Apparently Baikal electronics was facing bankruptcy as their owner (T-Platforms holder) was arrested for Fraud. Baikal electronics of course will either be bought out or saved and I think it is under new management now.

I hate to say it but T-Platforms and Baikal are nothing special and they are way late to the game. The only product they created that holds some benefits is their Baikal-T which is a MIPS processor used for automation. Apparently that was in high demand in Russia so that is why it took so long for their ARM processor.

But in reality, Module created their own ARM processor with Neuromatrix (I posted in this thread earlier on about it). It is much more impressive than this ARM design which I believe is used for low powered servers. Otherwise, not really needed as MCST Elbrus E2K processors are much better suited for the need of server applications anyway.

With the help of equipment Rostec issued more than 7 million passports

More than 7 million passports of the new generation were issued by the data processing Center (DPC) of the State system of migration registration "Peace." In the data center, commissioned in 2016 NII "Voskhod", is used exclusively for domestic computing platform "Elbrus", developed by Concern "Automatics" of state Corporation rostec and the Russian software development.

The state system "World" controls the manufacture, registration and control passport-visa documents of new generation, and migration into account. The system includes departmental segments of the Ministry of interior, Ministry of communications, Ministry of defense, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of foreign Affairs, FSB, the Ministry of transport and Rosmorrechflot. The interaction between the institutional segment provides the DC "World", which includes 130 server architecture "Elbrus".

"Using the platform "Elbrus" has confirmed the possibility of creating a modern integrated information system on domestic element base. This project opened the market for the platform "Elbrus", made her popular in the state and Federal agencies. Experience of datacenter operations demonstrates its high resiliency and performance. It is no coincidence that this platform competes on an equal footing in the implementation of new projects in the field of big data and the challenges with the highest level of information security", – said the Executive Director of rostec state Corporation Oleg Yevtushenko.

In the composition of the DC "World" implemented data storage systems, cluster systems, databases, application servers, organized monitoring system and service support. Data center design "World" is allowed to create a technical basis for extending the application server "Elbrus". Thanks to new software and optimize it for the architecture "Elbrus" the growth performance of various system components, depending on the tasks amounted to 3300%.

"The data center was the result of the state program on import substitution. This is the first public system of this size is implemented on all domestic microelectronic base. The developed platform is based on Russian software, including those based on open source and runs completely on the server "Elbrus-4.4". Currently using the new platform issued more than 7 million passports of the new generation," – said Deputy General Director of the research Institute "Voskhod" Igor Gritsaev.

Part of state Corporation rostec work on the line of servers "Elbrus" is INEUM them. Brook Concern "Automatics" in cooperation with JSC "MCST".

The passport of the new generation first became available to Russians in 2006. The home page of this document contains a biometric microchip that recorded the fingerprints and digital photos of the person of the citizen. The validity of the passport of the new generation is ten years.

I'm pretty much an ignoramus on processors...so how does the Baikal-M compare going by the specifications Mike posted?

Yeah the Baikal-M looks like a cutting edge model.. from 2014.

It would be more impressive if they just continued with their MIPS line of processors and or move onto something else (RISC since its open source architecture now). But they purchased a license for ARM and they get an older design that benefits nobody. The MIPS makes most sense since it will work fine for industrial equipment and what not. Heck, it can be used for HPC's as well. But ultimately, they went the wrong route in terms of semiconductors.

Not everything needs to be amazing... just having something in the market is a start.

As long as it is cheap it might find uses... especially with customers who can't get US alternatives for whatever reasons.

It all depends for what these CPUs are used. For basically all business related computation, they are more than good enough.

Big Iron for running 3D chemistry transport models needs a lot of floating point processing power. Here IBM's Power processors
rule and Intel and AMD x86 CPUs are very good as well. A vanilla-ish ARM is not really good for number crunching.

Expert: Russia is ahead of foreigners in creating an electric motor for aviation

MOSCOW, Sep 5 - RIA News. Russia is five years ahead of foreign competitors in creating an electric high-power aircraft engine, said SuperOx CEO Sergei Samoilenkov to RIA Novosti.
It was previously reported that an electric motor based on high-temperature superconductors is being created in Russia by order of the Advanced Research Foundation. The flight of a flying laboratory with such a motor is planned to be carried out in Russia in 2020.

"Foreign competitors are also developing electric motors for aviation. In 2021-2022, the previous generation electric motor, without superconductors, should be tested at a flying laboratory in Europe. Our electric motor is distinguished by the use of new materials - superconductors. They make it possible to create large-capacity electric motors with small sizes and Such engines can be created and tested in flight by our competitors in about five years, but we plan to conduct tests at the flying laboratory already in next year, "said Samoilenkov.

According to him, superconductors do not have electrical resistance and allow transmitting a record high current density. This allows you to increase the efficiency of such plants and reduce their overall dimensions compared to conventional electric motors. “This installation opens up a new page in aviation, because it allows you to design and build aircraft with electric traction. This will allow you to implement the same principles in aviation as in electric vehicles,” said Samoilenkov.

According to him, the use of such engines can save, according to various estimates, from 15 to 75 percent of the fuel, proportionally reduce noise and the amount of harmful emissions. “This can change the civil aviation market in the coming years and decades. The topic is of hot interest to everyone: Airbus, Boeing, NASA and the Japan Space Agency, all Russian aircraft manufacturers. Everyone is sure that this is the future. Only some people think that it will come tomorrow, who “The day after tomorrow, and we think that it has already arrived,” the head of the company said.

The prototype of the electric motor was presented by SuperOx at the booth of the Central Institute of Aviation Motors at the MAKS-2019 aerospace show. In total, today, said Samoilenkov, a batch of engines has been manufactured that pass ground bench tests.

Flight tests are planned next year at the Yak-40 flying laboratory. “The electric motor will be installed in the nose of the aircraft, which will allow to leave standard engines on the plane and test the new engine in different operating modes. This will happen for the first time in the world,” the source said.

The source of electricity for such an installation may be batteries, electric generators or fuel cells. Due to the compact size of electric motors and the possibility of diversity of the power source and the installation itself, aircraft designers can design new aircraft, placing the engines where it is most advantageous aerodynamically.

“Our two engines can provide thrust for an aircraft with a capacity of up to 20 passengers. Larger dimension engines or more engines can drive regional aircraft - 50-70 passengers,” said Samoilenkov.
According to him, the Russian development can rightfully be called a breakthrough solution, since it opens up new prospects in the field of regional air transportation. "This market is measured in trillions of US dollars until 2035," the SuperOx head said.

At the same time, he notes, the development of an electric motor on superconductors was much cheaper than a conventional aircraft engine. “Compared to the development of a traditional aircraft engine, it’s at least 10 times less,” he said.

In case some chauvinist genius dismisses the above as "typical" Russian BS, everything claimed is physically valid. Superconductors
would save a lot of energy during electrical transmission. They do have zero resistance but that is limited by the magnetic field which
becomes large at high current densities. Unfortunately superconductors are too expensive for this job. It looks like Russian investment
in science and engineering is paying off. Application of semiconductors to electric motors is not a trivial thing. The slow progress
in high temperature superconductor research must have gone farthest in Russia since materials science is world class there. In the
west there is too much research wax and wane from "fad-ism". When the initial results are not what investors want, then there is
a loss of interest and funding for research. In Russia, the research is seen as a core activity that has continuous support.

Superconductors and electric motors... stuff you can develop when working on things like EM guns and EM catapults... very useful and valuable technologies it seems.

Fuel cell technology plus electric motors, would be useful in airship designs... especially with designs that use a wing shape instead of a blimp type shape for higher speed.

    This is indeed good news...

Impressive brain scanning tech. Without inserting electrodes into the human brain, Russian specialists have managed to construct
a brain electro-tomography system that allows reconstruction of images seen through human eyes directly from the brain.

How good is the new technique? Currently portable neuroimagers (based on EEG) can only measure activity a few mm deep.

I think you meant to post this in the other thread. The tech being demonstrated shows that it is possible to reconstruct the image processed
by the eyes from a network of receptors that sit on the head without penetrating the skin. Unless the whole presentation if fake, it means
that the tomography is using frequencies not previously used. EEG is based on the emission of brain EM frequencies. A tomography system
can use other frequencies and probe the the brain system via re-emission.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electroencephalography

(PS. I know that electrostatics dictates that electrolytes cannot be probed, but that is not true for the magnetic field and for
    transient electrical fields).

    Very interesting, thanks for sharing.

I was watching some criminal show on russian tv and there was interesting chapter about forensics in Tsarist and early Soviet Union. Back in late Tsarist Russia and early Soviet Union criminals used to have false belief in optography and they tried to damage victims eyes as they thought images can be extracted after the death of a person. Odessan mafia used to be know for taking the eyes.
