I was recently trying to do some more research on the august 2008 war and stumbled upon this forum. It looks like there are decent people here who are interested in objective and serious discussions on any topic. That's why I decided to join and participate.

  Why is my comment up there grey backgrounded like some others i have seen couple of times?

when you create a thread you will notice an extra button next to reply on other members posts that says "Thanks".

When you press that button... either on purpose, or by accident it highlights that reply... it is normally used to thank people for useful contributions to the question asked or discussion topic. Often it is hit by accident I suspect...

I wanted to thank everyone for the warm welcome and clicked on his thanks button first. But it seems I can do it only once ?

To prevent overuse I believe the number of times you can click it is restricted.

Same with the voting, where you can only vote once a day.


For Voting note in the top right hand corner of other peoples posts there is a small + symbol and a small - symbol with a bar between them. Once a day you can vote for something someone says.

Yes, you can only thank one post per thread a day. The post turns dark when it is thanked.
