"May" help against COVID? To decide if the benefits outweigh the risks? The guys that granted immunity to unscrupulous manufacturers experimenting with the general population??? Compliance with the usual EU standards??? Will they need to bribe them too?

Really these clowns are too much for any sane person....

Don't be so harsh to them. In fact every state has similar agency and such process takes place before they start using random drug among their population. Problem with EU is that they are so SLOW. Of course in this case it is on purpose. If the west pharma companies didnt have those issues with supply of vaccines, Sputnik V would have never been even discussed as valid option for EU.

Also pretty sure EU adminsitration is using the Sputnik V aproval process to push up deliveries from AstraZeneca and Phizer, like " Get your shit together or else we will be giving our money to that russian company instead".

Finally even if EU would aprove Sputnik V right now, it is not like Russia could deliver anything meaningful to EU. Sputnik V production is booked for months ahead already by other countries and Russia itself.

So all this is just show, nothing else.

Phage therapy in its current form for sure does not exceed antibiotic treatment to which it is an alternative. It is complicated and not that practical to produce, store and use.
Same bacterial infection in two different persons may require two different strains of phages being developed. Even during treatiment of a single person bacteria could evovlve and become resistent to the pahge used which will requiere a new phage to be developed. Now imagine having to treat 1000 people. Antibiotics currently would win anytime over this.

It will be produced in Germany. Not only is the vaccine the first available and the one with the best safety record, it is the one that has developed a more robust and honest supply chain.

Correct me if I am wrong but as far as I understand vaccines are produced at specilized facilities from which there is a limited number arround the world. Meaning if one wants to produce X vaccine they should either build new facility that will cost a lot of money and time, or free up slots at an existent facility. So producing Sputnik V in Germany would actually be at the expense of their own Phizer vaccine maybe?
    Which makes no sense.
I think AstraZeneca´s instalations are more viable shot as their vaccine sucks anyway but combined with Sputnik it became pretty decent. Or at least they were testing it sometime ago.

Actually western states have much higher % of vaccinated population compared to Russia. The correct question here would be why the country that discovered the first COVID vaccine in the world has lower ammount of vaccinated population than say Portugal or Finland.

..and this question can only be asked by an idiot who is not familiar with the real facts.

Fact #1. In Russia, as of 5.03.21, 5 million people were vaccinated (they received the first dose of Sputnik V), of which 2.5 million were fully vaccinated. For reference: immunity is developed within three weeks after the first injection, the second is required for guaranteed consolidation of the result.
But here in general, the data indicate 6.4 million vaccinated citizens: https://gogov.ru/articles/covid-v-stats#data

Fact #2. In Finland, according to data from 04.03.21, the number of vaccinated people was less than 510 thousand people: https://gogov.ru/covid-v-stats/finlyandiya

Fact #3. In Portugal, according to data from 04.03.21, the number of vaccinated people was less than 930 thousand people: https://gogov.ru/covid-v-stats/portugaliya

So your statement is a direct lie. In reality, in Russia, 4 times more people are vaccinated than in Finland and Portugal in total.

Well for one thing Russia is not in lockdown, they haven't lost control of pandemic and there are no shortages of vaccine there

Everyone who wants to get vaccine can do it without appointment or wait period and also gets ice cream as a bonus

And they have more than enough left for export

EU on the other hand is on complete opposite situation (even ice cream is not pro bono)

Thousands of people in the EU are dying every day to this virus and so they delayed testing a Russian vaccine to protect their own pharma companies....

I don't think calling them clowns is harsh enough... except if he means the clown in Stephen Kings "IT" stories... then he is probably bang on.

Also pretty sure EU adminsitration is using the Sputnik V aproval process to push up deliveries from AstraZeneca and Phizer, like " Get your shit together or else we will be giving our money to that russian company instead".

    Blackmail... again another virtue...

Finally even if EU would aprove Sputnik V right now, it is not like Russia could deliver anything meaningful to EU. Sputnik V production is booked for months ahead already by other countries and Russia itself.

Sputnik V is a straight forward design, they should be able to ramp up their own production very easily and very quickly and probably produce enough for their own needs and the needs of other countries..... but they are not interested in saving lives...

So all this is just show, nothing else.

Unnecessary political bullshit from the political bullshit professionals and experts... that is what they do and all they do.

Why are they clowns? They protect their business, technology and money. Is Russia buying Phizer´s vaccines? Or maybe AstraZeneca´s? Why should EU do it then?

They are delaying access to effective and proven vaccines on political grounds... fuck the money, those pharma companies already make too much money and spend most of it bribing doctors and health professionals into prescribing their junk to people who don't need it... some of the drugs they sell are the equivalent of Crack, but because a doctor prescribes it it is OK... and they make a lot of money too.

Correct me if I am wrong but as far as I understand vaccines are produced at specilized facilities from which there is a limited number arround the world.]

Most countries have facilities to produce vaccines that are not brand new state of the art experimental ones that have to be stored at minus 80 degrees... mass production and distribution of Sputnik V would be much cheaper much faster and much easier... but it is Russian.

You don't need a new production facility for each new vaccine... that is like needing a whole new factory to make a different flavour cheese.

Cheese making factories can pretty much handle making almost any type of cheese.

So producing Sputnik V in Germany would actually be at the expense of their own Phizer vaccine maybe?

The Pfviser vaccine is expensive and complex and demanding in terms of creating, storing and transportation and is not more effective than Sputnik V though there have been negative side effects, but none that I am aware of with Sputnik V.

EU on the other hand is on complete opposite situation (even ice cream is not pro bono)

Indeed, even foreign diplomats in Russia and news reporters who said Sputnik V was rushed and corners were cut and not properly tested asked for and got vaccinated when the US government said it couldn't provide the necessary vaccinations for them...

Private companies are interested in profit, the patient isn't someone they care about, the patient is the person they fleece for their income.

A CEO at Goldman Sachs posted an open memo to the pharmaceutical company they were investing in and it was rather an interesting read.

Essentially what he said was that the focus should be on treatments rather than cures because in the case of infectious diseases a cure not only is a one off charge to a patient with no ongoing revenue like you would get from treatments, but it also means that person can no longer pass that disease on to others limiting the future revenue potential of the cure.

Big Pharma claim their big profits are necessary because developing new drugs is expensive... but over 70% of their money goes in to marketing and shmoosing doctors and health professionals to prescribe their medicines above generic or rival brands especially when their brand has unpleasant side effects and cheap generic drugs don't.

The vast majority of money invested in developing new drugs comes from the governments of countries who fund development of cures and treatments.

Look at the American healthcare system... the best in the world and also the most expensive... all those flash machines... if you have health insurance the hospitals screw the insurance companies by using those expensive machines for things that don't warrant it... I suspect they pocket the actual difference between what they charge and what it actually costs...

I wouldn't say that western medicine is the best path to follow no matter what... there are alternative options.

I am sure Boris Johnson plans to defund the NHS to the point where there are so many complaints he bows to public demands and privatises it all... it saves the government billions because they don't have to fund it at all, but it is the majority of the people who suddenly find they can't afford any sort of health care that will suffer... and it will be the insurance companies that make really big money out of this... charging people to pay them in case they might get sick, and making the coverage agreement full of holes they can exploit so it is the insurance company that decides if you get that expensive scan and not the doctor... what would doctors know anyway.

It is like direct to public advertising of drugs... do you have that... we are decades behind the rest of the west so I guess you do have it and have had it for ages.

Drug companies telling you what your doctor should be prescribing for your various problems.... go on... ask for x drug by name... because you know better than your doctor.... you have seen an advert on TV so you know at least as much as someone who has made a career out of this...

State run healthcare is healthcare to keep the people healthy and working, private healthcare wants profit... treatment, not cures... they want hepatitis to spread, not be cured... treating thousands is good profit... disease wiped out means no profit at all and they spent all that money on treatments.

America is a fine example of what a racket private medicine is. It turns out that there is no national market for HMOs in the USA.
That's right, there are state-level markets only. The mind boggles at this detail. There are no national level competitive pressures
and economies of scale. It is a pseudo-market where you have local oligopolies. This is inefficiency squared.

For a country that tries to jam its monetarist dick up everyone's ass, the USA is land of pure hypocrisy. If you want to see
what effectively amounts to state capitalism, it is the USA. Except it is not the nominal state but the oligarchy which milks
the consumers both directly and through their taxes.

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia’s RDIF sovereign wealth fund has signed an agreement with Swiss-based pharmaceutical company Adienne to produce the Sputnik V vaccine against COVID-19 in Italy, the Italian-Russian chamber of commerce said in a statement.

The chamber said in a statement issued on Monday, a public holiday in Russia, that the move paved the way for the creation of the first Sputnik V production facility in Europe, with plans for Italian production to begin in June.

It said it hoped that 10 million doses of Sputnik V could be produced in Italy by the end of the year.

EMA head’s ‘Russian roulette’ remark on Sputnik V ‘regrettable, incorrect’ — Kremlin
    March 9

The spokesman underscored that Sputnik V is one of the most popular vaccines in the world.

MOSCOW, March 9. /TASS/. Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov criticized the remark by European Medicines Agency (EMA) Chairwoman Christa Wirthumer-Hoche, who compared the idea of emergency authorizations of the Sputnik V vaccine to "playing Russian roulette," as incorrect and regrettable.

"As for this regrettable statement, it is incorrect to say the least. The demand for the vaccine and the vaccination campaigns in many countries indicate its relevance and popularity," Peskov told journalists Tuesday.

Earlier on March 9, developers of the Sputnik V vaccine demanded an apology from the EMA chairwoman for comparing the Russian vaccine authorization to "playing Russian roulette."

Peskov redirected the question on prospects of production of the vaccine in Italy to the Russian Direct Investment Fund. According to the spokesman, "several countries establish production chains, which will largely help to satisfy the growing demand of the external market."

The spokesman underscored that Sputnik V is one of the most popular vaccines in the world. "There could be no doubts at this point that this is one of the most popular and trusted vaccines in the world," he added.
Earlier, the media reported that the Direct Investment Fund plans to cooperate with Switzerland’s Adienne Pharma & Biotech in order to produce Sputnik V in Italy. According to the Fund’s Director Kirill Dmitriev, the production in Italy may begin in June, making it possible to vaccinate up to 700 million people before the end of this year. He also disclosed that the Fund would have announced 20 cooperation projects in 10 countries before the end of March. In particular, the Fund discusses cooperation with Germany and France.

On March 4, EMA announced the examination procedure for the Sputnik V vaccine. The agency stated that it would test the vaccine’s compliance with the EU standards for efficiency, safety and quality. A number of EU countries have already authorized the use of Sputnik V on their own without waiting for approval from the EMA. Currently, the vaccine is registered in Hungary and Slovakia.

The Russian vaccine’s efficiency is estimated at 91.6%, a figure confirmed by the relevant publication in The Lancet, one of the world’s oldest and most respected medical journals.

    Politicization of vaccines

Moscow has always been against the politicization of any issues related to vaccines, Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Tuesday.

According to the spokesman, Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine is highly effective against COVID-19. "Despite this, our vaccine faces criticism, some of it aspiring to be objective while the rest not even trying to be objective but rather being ungrounded, on a daily basis," he noted.

State Department attacked "Sputnik V" from an unexpected side
    March 9, 2021

The US State Department said that the Russian special services are waging an information war with Western vaccines through several little-known sites. This is obvious nonsense, but now this nonsense is needed by the US and the EU in order not to lose in the "vaccine war".

What would later be called "vaccine war" was inevitable. Capitalism, for all its advantages, simply did not assume that the manufacturers of highly demanded drugs that hit the market almost simultaneously would not enter into fierce competition with each other. A picture where companies from different countries and their lobbyists in the government would join hands to save humanity from a pandemic together, without playing along with their own and without putting a spoke in the wheels of strangers, is desirable, but too idealistic - humanity is not yet ready for this, which is demonstrates to us on a variety of other issues.

Idealistic and such a situation, when the governments of those few countries that could afford to produce their own vaccine, will remain on the sidelines of this capitalist struggle and will not participate in it. This does not work even in the case of countries under the leadership of the Communist Party: China seems to be not our enemy, on the contrary, it is a reliable partner and strategic ally, but it is in no hurry to register Russian vaccines, promoting its own.

Relying on Washington and Brussels in this regard is all the more strange. Considering how the coronavirus plowed the entire planet, becoming the main topic of the year (and there, you see, decades), there is no need to prove that a vaccine that saves lives of individuals and restores normal life to society as a whole is both prestige and big money. According to the US and EU strategy to "contain Russia", Russia should have neither prestige nor money.

That is why a "vaccine war" is being waged - both in the bureaucratic and in the information space. The Russian drug "Sputnik V" is holding up well (the second most popular vaccine against COVID-19 in the world, by the way), but it is forced to take numerous external blows , the strength of which will be determined by the conscience of the striker. For example, such as the attacks of the Ukrainian president on the Russian vaccine.

But in Slovakia, Prime Minister Igor Matovic showed himself wiser in the vaccine issue, promising not to allow Slovaks to become hostages of geopolitical conflicts. Nevertheless, the ruling coalition in the country consists of several parties, some of which are openly putting pressure on Matovich and demanding that he refuse to buy vaccines on the grounds that this is a "hybrid weapon of Russia".

Move on. Representative of the Austrian Health Agency Christa Virtumer-Hoch (concurrently chairman of the European Medicines Agency or EMA, where Sputnik V is currently undergoing an examination), speaking of the possible registration of a Russian vaccine in her homeland, compared it to “Russian roulette”. Here already its creators could not stand it - and demanded an apology.

It is possible to move geographically from the Russian borders to the West and further - there are more than enough examples of a Russian drug becoming the target of attacks from high-ranking officials and politicians. But it is better to go straight to the United States, whose participation in the "vaccine war" has its own characteristics.

The chief US infectious disease specialist, Anthony Fauci, although he is an adviser to President Biden, is still far enough from politics to praise the Russian vaccine . But the State Department, as a department directly responsible for the conduct of the foreign policy line, cannot afford this, and is still embarrassed to act in the spirit of Volodymyr Zelensky, so his blow within the framework of the "vaccine war" was the accusation of Russia in its conduct.

At first, The Wall Street Journal wrote about this with reference to its sources, then the representative of the US State Department Ned Price confirmed everything officially. Allegedly, the special services of the Russian Federation are trying to discredit the coronavirus vaccines developed by Western companies.

Earlier, our old opponent, the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, spoke in the same spirit, speaking at the hearings of the European Parliament's special committee on foreign interference in the EU's democratic processes. That is, we can talk about the coordinated position of the West on this issue.

However, Borrell was careful - he accused the "Kremlin media" of disinformation, without specifying which ones. The Americans, for the sake of better effect from their "revelations", decided to go in particular. This discredited their whole venture.

In the State Department's version, the information campaign against Western vaccines has turned into an operation by the Russian special services. At the same time, both the media and the special services that allegedly stand behind them were named: New Eastern Outlook and Oriental Review (SVR), News Front (FSB) and Rebel Inside (Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, in Western media usually appearing as the GRU).

It is easy to accept that the Russian media, as they say, "cheer for ours" and publish news about the failures of competing vaccines. Sometimes it bears the imprint of its own economic interests, when online publications fight for "yellow traffic" and try to get promoted by loud and revealing headlines or some radical speakers claiming that vaccination in the West is Bill Gates' chipping.

It is easy to imagine that Russian state authorities, including special services, are participants in an information war - usually a defensive one when it comes to the Russian vaccine. There, no worse than in the West, they understand everything about money, and about prestige, and about competition. But it is impossible to believe that the SVR, FSB and GRU are involved in this by posting fakes on little-known resources. While at war, they shoot from a slingshot.

There are many state-owned media outlets and entire media empires in Russia. At the service of the Russian authorities are specialists in PR, promotion and information campaigns. They have long been able to do everything the same as in the West, and if desired and necessary, qualified people will be able to organize a full-scale information attack on all Western vaccines and each separately. But in the picture of the world of the State Department, Russian special services, sharpened for completely different and much more ambitious tasks, are engaged in little-known media outlets with what journalists usually call "posting".

Obviously, the essence of Western manipulation is to work out the topic of Russia's “aggressive aspirations” in a different way. To connect the topic of vaccines with the Russian special services, endowed in the same West with an ominous image of almost omnipotent offices. This simultaneously casts a shadow on the Russian drug, making it an unwitting participant in the "conspiracy", and, as it were, justifies the information war waged against Sputnik V by Western officials.

For a layman in the US or the EU, it is not at all obvious that the State Department's accusations are curious. They sound gloomy enough so as not to ask once again the question whether this fierce struggle with the Russian vaccine is in his, the layman's interests.

As follows from publications in other media, which are kept in a tone that is more loyal to the achievements of Russian science, many ordinary people are beginning to suspect something. The statements of politicians and officials are too much at odds with the position of specialized vaccine experts . If so, you need to create the illusion that you are opposing the conspiracy of the Russian special services, who for some reason decided to try their hand at journalism.

That is, on the contrary, it would not be necessary, it turned out stupid. But the war, as you know, will write off everything, including the "vaccine war".

The US spy agency commanders blame Russia for politicising vaccines after all the shit they put out about the Russian vaccine they are worried that it didn't stick, but the shit about their own vaccines is sticking and it is making them look bad... well perhaps they should have spent a bit longer and made better vaccines... I mean if a third world gas station of a country that doesn't make anything can make three different ones so far, you would think the west could manage one decent one.

BTW extra amusing that Sputnik V is compared with Russian Roulette... because Russian Roulette is a British invention. The most common and most widely used Russian revolver is the Nagant, which has seven chambers not 6 and the mechanism means the chambers can't spin around like a roulette wheel because it is a gas sealed revolver... so playing Russian roulette with the standard Russian revolver is not possible and even if it was it would be one in seven rather than one in six.

I heard somewhere that "Russian" roulette was some US concoction and popularized there. Americans love to use the names of other countries
for what they consider to be not particularly good. Thus we had the "Spanish" flu which came from the USA.

MarketWatch: Sputnik V's efficiency has surpassed Russia's wildest expectations
    Stanislav Blokhin
    March 7, 2021

The West is following with interest Russia's diplomatic maneuvers against the backdrop of huge demand for the Sputnik V vaccine. This is reported by the American edition of MarketWatch. PolitRussia presents an exclusive retelling of this publication.

In August last year, the West was skeptical about the Russian Sputnik V vaccine, and six months later it has to watch the growing global demand for it. Today analysts are wondering if Moscow will be able to cope with so many applications from around the world for this drug.

“Millions of doses are expected by the countries of Latin America, Africa, the former Soviet Union and the Middle East in the wake of Russian vaccine diplomacy,” the authors of MarketWatch note.

At first, the West harshly criticized Sputnik V, but after the experts of the prestigious British medical journal The Lancet recognized the effectiveness of the vaccine, there were fewer attacks on the Russian Federation. Experts believe that Russia can take advantage of this situation to improve its image in Western countries, now it will be associated with a scientific power that is capable of charity. This is especially true now, when rich countries are buying up all consignments of Western analogues of the Russian Sputnik V, and manufacturers are trying to satisfy this demand.

"They (Russia - approx.)" Have surpassed their wildest dreams that this vaccine will indeed become a viable and marketable product, "said global health specialist Judy Twigg.

According to estimates of the London-based research and development company Airfinity, Russia has agreed to ship about 392 million doses abroad. Also, negotiations are underway on additional consignments, which will amount to another 356 million doses. Analysts of the American edition stated that Russia won the gold medal for the creation of a very effective drug. Now Moscow faces an even bigger challenge: it needs to meet the incredible demand for Sputnik V.

    This will not happen

Russian image will remain unchanged no matter how well this vaccines does

Tip: don't waste time with image, diplomacy and especially charity, just take the money

Just Westerners full of their own shit:

Today analysts are wondering if Moscow will be able to cope with so many applications from around the world for this drug.

Are these monkeys even aware that Russia is planing Sputnik V to be produced locally by the interested countries?

"They (Russia - approx.)" Have surpassed their wildest dreams that this vaccine will indeed become a viable and marketable product, "said global health specialist Judy Twigg.

Of course not, they knew what they were developing and the intrinsic effectiveness, safety and convenience of the vaccine, and therefore the possible demand for it... not every positive outcome of a Russian endeavour is a fluke you morons...
