Hello from Finland

Hi everyone. Like many others, I've been reading this forum for quite a while and now I finally decided to join.

I don't have any kind of military background whatsoever - if you don't count the 6 monts of compulsory military service lol - so I'm more of an armchair general, more interested in the "big picture", geopolitics and what have you.

I'm studying history in my local university, and I'm trying to specialize in the Soviet Union during cold war. I guess I find it so interesting due to the fact that back then the world was balanced and I grew up during the few decades of US centric unipolarity, that has - thank god - come to an end. So that is why I follow Russian and Chinese military and economic developments closely and wish them (and for everyone else outside the US-controlled west) all the best in their struggle for more multipolar world.

And as everyone can guess, russophobia is going strong at the moment here in Finland. Oh, and Putin is the new Hitler!! That's what they are telling on the news, anyway. Just wanted to let you guys know.

Funny how the west fears a multi polar world... there has not been a sudden outbreak of peace everywhere since 1991 and they still don't control everything when it is largely a monopole... seems their dreams of a civilised (ie western) world are fading...

Don't want to go on about it here in your intro thread, but it was a real missed opportunity... if 11/9 was 91/9 or 92/9 then the US might have embraced the Russians as useful allies and they might have been rather more willing to work together... there are lots of countries where Russia has some influence and the west has none where the Russians could have been useful... but the fact of the matter is that the west is no better than most of the regimes it holds as criminal so who cares if it survives or not?
