Hassan Rouhani wins another term as president of Iran



Hassan Rouhani has won Iran’s 12th presidential election, receiving a popular mandate for another four years in presidential office.

Iranian Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli appeared at a press briefing on Saturday to declare Rouhani the winner of the Friday election with 23,549,616 votes, or 57 percent of the total ballots.

Rahmani Fazli said that a total of 41,220,131 votes had been cast, and that the results he was announcing were almost definitive.

The candidate with the second largest number of votes was Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi, who garnered 15,786,449 votes, or 38.5 percent.

Mostafa Aqa-Mirsalim and Mostafa Hashemi-Taba, the other two candidates, received 478,215 and 215,450 votes respectively.

President Rouhani will speak live on state television at 6:00 p.m. Iran time (1330 GMT) on Saturday.

Iran’s 12th presidential election was held on Friday. Elections were also simultaneously held for City and Village Councils.

Voting hours were extended several times due to a high turnout in the polls.

Six candidates had been approved after vetting by the Guardian Council to run in the election. In the final days of campaigning, however, two of the candidates, namely First Vice President Es’haq Jahangiri and Tehran Mayor Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, withdrew from the race in favor of President Rouhani and Raeisi, respectively.

Iran has received the first batch of medium-range planes that it has purchased from Franco-Italian aviation player ATR.   Four ATR 72-600 turboprop planes landed in Tehran’s Mehrabad International Airport on a direct flight from the French city of Toulouse.The planes – the first from a total of 20 planes that are expected to be handed over to Iran – were handed over to national flag-carrier Iran Air on Tuesday.
This brings the number of new additions to the Iranian aviation fleet to seven after earlier deliveries of three Airbus planes.Iran expects to receive five more ATRs by the end of 2017.   The value of the deal sealed with the company is estimated to be around $500 million.

Also it looks like Russia and Iran have signed their proposed oil for goods deal taking most of their trade outside the $ and SWIFT. Effectively giving Iran the finance to buy, as you say, anything Russian they want.

Russia can start shipping its oil (albeit Iranian produced) to its (new) southern customers straight out of the Gulf, saving large transport costs. Try and sanction or block that 'Iranian' oil Mr US.

When should Iran fire back at the Yanks in Persian Gulf ? I must first say that this event is worse than the sporadic exchange of artillery fire between India and Pakistan . Or the aerial ballet between Yanks and Russia . In these instances the chances of a full blown conflict is very low . Probably one in hundred or thousand . But in case of opening up with guns against or near an actual target . The chances are probably one in ten . How often do these occur ? I remember a few . Probably once a year . So the chances of a full blown war in next ten to twenty years is about hundred percent .

So Iran needs to and has to retaliate at some point . But if it can delay action until following conditions are met , then it will defeat the Yanks . So that they leave the region for good . These conditions are :

(1) Establishment of land trade routes to Asia and Europe . To overcome any naval blockade . To export oil and non oil goods .

(2) The purchase of or building of main battle jet . Capable of at least a 1 : 1 kill ratio against yank planes . In sufficient numbers to overcome at least four aircraft carrier loads of planes and their replacement . About 400 gen 4 plus plus .

(3) The necessity to react at point of maximum streangth , established by economic markers , of static or negative growth . And diminishing reserves over many years by US related sanctions .

This was predictable to a large extent . A military response to the new yank sanctions may not be needed . However harsh language should be responded with harsh language . Iran and rest of the world can overcome this American problem by setting up product specific national banks and financial services . These companies deal exclusively with Iran and Iranian banks and have nothing to do with yank banks or products or services . And as such are exempt from all yank restrictions and laws . These companies then undertake no risk in dealings with Iran . Since they are exclusive . Of course the yanks may then put pressure on national governments to stop trading with Iran . But then national governments are more powerful and able to put up a better fight .
