or the first time in its history, the production of wheat in Russia will exceed this year's harvests in the U.S.. This figure was the first result of Russia's new agricultural strategy.
The rivalry between the USSR and the U.S. during the Cold War concerned not only weapons. Race of rural households in both countries once again come to the fore 19 years after the collapse of the Soviet Union. For the first time in its history, Russia has managed to achieve its objectives: to bypass the U.S. in terms of wheat production. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the harvest in Russia for the period 2009-1010 year should reach 61.700 million tons against 60.314 million in the U.S.. The separation is, of course, a small, but it's pretty significant to the event went down in history.

Good. This is just another sign that Russia is moving away from natural resource (aside from their silicon valley development) and further into other fields. Good money to be made, and farmers may soon share the wealth that North American farmers do.
It isn't surprising considering US wheat production was cut by 20% last year thanks to Chinese reaching record production. When the US government sees global inventories rise, which were the highest in 8 years, they pay their farmers subsidies to produce less. This keeps their prices higher. They have also been using alot more of their arable land for ethanol production which has reduced their total grain output. It would be nice to overtake US as the bread basket of the world. Once we get the Black Sea facilities completed we will be able to export alot more but our infrastructure requires much more work.

Infrastructure in what aspect? Are we talking about logistical facilities? or what?
Russia is around 4th place in food production, behind EU, Brazil and China.
If there is one thing that successful industry does it improves infrastructure... for itself. This of course will be good for other users.
Didn't I read that the Russians are getting the South Koreans to help them develop a state of the art ship building port infrastructure?
Does anyone know where it will be or the time frame till it will be operational?
BTW the South Koreans have a very efficient ship building industry so buying a port design from them is like buying thermal imagers from the French. ie a good step for Russia.

Poultry is probably the brightest spot in Russia's meat production. The country is as of now a net poultry exporter. Pork production is on a good path too. Russia will become a pork exporter in 2015-2016. Beef is still lagging, but the efforts are on the way.
You can see a good report here http://sdelanounas.ru/blogs/44320/

Seeing as how Russia is becoming more agrarian year by year, and how agricultural companies are racking in lots of profits thanks to the counter sanctions and the devaluation of the Ruble, I thought it would be important to start a separate thread in agricultural news, achievements, statistics, agricultural machinery development, etc. So if anyone wants to contribute please post all Russian agricultural news. Please keep it civil and on topic.
Russian Drip Irrigation - Part of the Import substitution
The advantages of drip irrigation With drip irrigation and faster culture Matures 10-15 days earlier than usual, higher yields, fewer weeds, so it can save water, fertilizer, served directly to the root zone to the extent necessary, and not sprayed all over the field. Energy costs and water with the use of drip irrigation compared to sprinkler irrigation below 5-8 times.
Also, the benefits of drip irrigation include: - the flexibility and convenience of land treatment - dry aisle; - better aeration to the root zone of the soil - without a crust on the soil surface. Under the same growing conditions (technology, type of soil, amount of fertilizers, use of plant protection products and other) potatoes and vegetables with the use of drip irrigation give a yield of at least 25-50% morethan when using spray irrigation and 50-100%than when grown without irrigation (non-irrigated areas).

Mostly what I have been reading is Dairy, meat and egg product development. Now I am wondering about the bread industry. What I mean is I wonder if there are any major bakeries that will make large amounts of branded bread and cakes/deserts?

Sepheronx, you obviously have never been in Russia. Bread and torts (cakes) are just as Russian as vodka and caviar.
As far as I know russia is one of the world leaders in agrucltural machinery design and innovation. What is the current status of russian agricultural technology exports. Expanding this area will be crucial in diversifying the economy. Also with it's current extreme technological expertise it shouldn't be hard for russia to create a competitor to the much hated monsanto by giving more favorable buyer terms for it's products and safer genetic modifications instead of for the sake of global profit and expl, oitation the way monsanto does.
Russia may start producing ecologically clean wheat March 28, 2015 Darya Kezina, RIR
Breeders say that in the next few years Russia could begin producing a new ecologically clean type of wheat with a high concentration of mineral elements for the world market.
Scientists at the Nemchinovka Scientific Research Institute of Agriculture in Moscow, a well known scientific breeding center, have produced special kinds of winter wheat that are supposedly superior to existing analogues in terms of its healthy contents. They can grow in less fertile regions with cool climates and yet provide higher yields than those grown in more favorable conditions. The protein content in the new varieties is two times higher than most that exist on the world market.

Apparently Russia is opening up a plant for production of machine equipment for agriculture and construction in Suez Canal area Egypt. Also, Russias larger agriculture plant owns a Canadian manufacturer that deals with both Canada and USA.

This is very important as many regions in Siberia and far east are permafrost and thus make it semi difficult to grow anything en mass without greenhouse complexes. I remember not long ago about a cotton seeds that are modified to also work in such climates as well to make Russia also a large producer of cotton.

And you think that Canadians are the "manjicakes"
Of course there are plenty of smaller bakeries and sweet shops, but never heard of anything larger. I don't doubt they exist I just don't see much news on them, that's all.
Russian aquaculture enterprises located along the coast of the Black Sea (Krasnodar and Crimea) are ready to produce more than 1.5 million pieces of oysters in 2016 (completely satisfy Russia's demand for oysters within two years).
There's a catch however...
An exception has to be made to Russia's sanctions against the EU in order to procure the "seed material" to start domestic production. In the Black Sea oysters are grown from the French, Spanish and Italian planting material. The ouster larvae have to be shipped in not more than two days from sea to sea. This is apparently, possible only when purchasing material in European nurseries.
