Iraqi Army
Iraq is refusing to take the latest BTR-4 batch from Ukraine.
They have been sitting on their boat for months @ pier, after the Iraqis found faults on some of the vehicles.

Re: Iraqi Army
Last night the Mi35M helicopters got their baptism of fire. Three of them entered into combat operations against ISIS in the anbar deserts and valleys.
Didn't take long!!
If Mi28Ns are delivered sometime soon, we may see them in combat before spring.

Good news. Probably the first time that the Mi-35M has seen combat then. Is there any video of the operations?

Re: Iraqi Army
not publicised yet. but videos from operations by King Airs and AC-208s have been published so its only a matter of time before we see combat footage.
aparently they used a mix of missiles, rockets and cannon fire... so should be pretty spectacular stuff!

It has already seen combat in caucasus, if i recall right there was even a guncamera video of it somewhere. Where the operation leader yells at the crew.

This video shows the Mi-35M attack. It is really hard to avoid being detected by thermal sights if you don't have the proper gear.

Re: Iraqi Army
those videos are of AC-208 combat caravans firing Hellfire missiles.
since the AC-208s carry only 2 hellfires, most of the terrorists inevitably escape the attack by scattering.
which is why the army is employing now Mi35M and Mi17s with loads of rockets....
from today... Mi35M over Anbar.

Good thing Iraq did not take the BTR-4s, look at those hull cracks :O !
Apparently they were created in a insufficiently prepared, cold space and hence cracked on cooling.

I blame the russians!
if the Ukrainians had cheap gas they would have stuck to the correct smelting and cooling processes without corner cutting!

Re: Iraqi Army
Iraq seems to have very deep political divisions that tie its hands.
First the Kurds showed the central government who's boss when they attempted to send forces there, and now the trouble with ISIS
Let's hope that the broken political system won't infringe too much on the Iraqi military's effectiveness.

Mind you some Russian enterprises are no better.

Not really , Kurds and new Iraqi elites are nowhere near that level of enmity like it was during Saddam times , and all these rebellions in mostly Sunni Anbar province are sponsored by GCC.
What doesn`t kill you it makes you stronger , at the end of day , Iraq may well have the best COIN troops at disposal in MENA region (excluding Israel) which only need to be enlarged.

Wow, nice video from Iraq. Wonder if they will use the Mi-35 as a SOF transport bird as the video seems to imply.

Re: Iraqi Army
you all may have heard of Iraq's recently released order for Ah64E apaches.
30 helos (including 6 loaners)
about 1500 hellfires in three contracts.
standard setup with training and support.
cost?
$6.2Bn !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
over $200M per apache.
is that a new world record for gouging?

Someone is with the entire head in someones elses ass.
PS: All my fears that Iraqi MoD is deeply stuck in the american ass getting more and more reinforced and propably true.
3 bln USD for Apaches alone without the hellfires, training and support costs have still a price tag per unit of roughly 100 mln USD, that is the worst deal in history of deals.
No indepented country would buy such mediocre quality for so much money when they already have bought superior systems like Ka-52 along with Mi-28 and Mi-35. It is a nightmare when it comes to logistics and maintenance costs.
My fear this helicopters especially Ka-52 are actually for USA to study, they did such sceams more than once before with MSTA-S and T-80's bought by Marocco and immidiatley shipped to US.
It smells to much like someones crapped in the wrong yard.

Yes.
Fairly low launch signature and single weapon fired and single point target hit suggests it was an ATGM rather than a rocket attack.
Rockets are generally fired at area targets and fired in volleys.
I would suspect the weapon fired was either a Shturm or Ataka... both are fairly similar... the former likely in stocks but likely not in production as they would be replaced by the better performing Ataka.
I believe the ASCC codename for Ataka is AT-9.

Sheytan.
Thanks for your updates on the Iraqi situation and arms orders.
Looks like your MoD ordered anything that they could get their hands on with delivery promptness being the top priority.

Re: Iraqi Army
I think its easy to understate how desperate the military situation is in Iraq right now. They're even willing to pay top money for mothballed L159s from Czech.
Most of their M1A1SA tanks are in the depot due to maintenance issues (60+ tanks out of 140 total!) and the ones "in the field" don't have HE shells because the US trickle supplies the Iraqis by C5 galaxies with even basic munitions and parts.
Hellfire missiles are used up as soon as they arrive, and they have nothing heavier to use in a "battlespace" which is about 200,000km2 ... whilst having an air force with a grand total of 3x "Combat Caravans" for supporting the Iraqi Army in the field (carrying 2x hellfires each).
I believe that Iraqis won't be buying the 175 Abrams that they were supposed to get this year, nor the 250 M2A2 Bradleys... and I suspect the 50x Strykers won't be bought either.
Put that on top of the cancelled BTR4 order... and you see a massive gap in capability in the army.... hell even their fleet of 10,000 uparmoured HUMVEES are breaking down regularly since most are over 15 years old by now (they were supplied free by the US as second hand vehicles) and have done more than 100,000km+ each in a bad environment and constant field use.
