I've been fascinated with international politics and geo-politics for the last few years, I always find myself spending my time researching news and information about current conflicts in the world and what's really going on. I'm 20, was born in London and lived here all my life, I am not English however, I come from
this part of the world.
...It's complicated, the British signed us as being their "Protectorate" after they took control of our port city from the Ottomans in 1885.
Then in 1960 we were a nation, and a few days after being independent we united with Italian Somalia, making the Somali Republic.
In 1969 we had a coup, and a communist leader took control, he had good ties with the Soviet Union until he invaded Ethiopia,
during that time the Russians built a base in Berbera, the runway they built is used now for regional flights, it is the longest runway in Africa.
(homes of the Soviet troops that were stationed there)
After the former Somali government cut ties with the USSR, the USSR then built a base in Socotra in the Indian Ocean...
30-odd years later, the Russians no longer have a presence here, and the Americans have a base in nearby Djbouti right next to the strategic Bab-El Mandab straits.
That's all there is for my introduction, I really admire Russia's determination to exterminate the terrorists and how Putin is always pointing out the hypocritical antics of the west, always good to see power being used for good!
