I had thought it odd to split purchase/operation between organisations but makes sense if its a S&R version.
What engine are they using? They need PD-8 engine
Did they have spare stock of the Ukrainian engine kicking around? I doubt the 404s would be allowing export of new ones (& I wouldn't trust the quality if they did).
There was a plan to sell SaM146 engined ones on Export & with a bunch of SSJs grounded there would certainly be spares of that around (though the reason for that grounding is reliability issues with SaM146...maybe less of an issue for this more specialised use-case?)
Some versions of the D436 engines were assembled by Salyut near Moscow, but possibly they were those for the An-148 while the engines for the Be-200 could need some modifications for amphibious operations...
Furthermore I do not know how many components were sourced from the Ukraine, but probably a considerable part.
I know that Russia managed to obtain full independence for the production of the AI-222 engine of the yak-130, initially developed by ivchenko-progress and mutually produced by Motor sich (Zaporozhe) and Salyut (Moscow region), but that is a much more recent engine and more important for Russian needs.
It is possible that Russia could get a full Russification of the production and supply chain for the D436 as well (and maybe they are already able to do produce the parts, while not in a serie), but the PD8 is much more important.

Re: Be-200 Multirole Amphibian
Do the Be-200s have some kind of system for mixing in extinguishing agents during flight with the water they scoop up?
Because that would work a lot better, than just ordinary water

Re: Be-200 Multirole Amphibian
Well, they are capable to mix the different agents, but no idea if it needs to be pre-installed or runs online
I guess you can load some agent and just mix it with water loaded in

Greece has asked Russia to provide a second Be-200 firefighting aircraft.
Greece has asked Russia to provide a second Be-200 aircraft to extinguish fires. Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias wrote about this on Monday on his Twitter page.
"Today I had an extensive telephone conversation with my Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov. Fighting fires was discussed, and it was suggested to consider the possibility of sending another Be-200 to provide assistance" – Dendias wrote.
The Russian Foreign Ministry has not yet reported on the conversation between the foreign ministers.

Agreed, when's the last time the western world provided any free assistance to Russia for anything?calripson wrote:No charity for EU/NATO member states. Let them pay full price.
Besides, Russia has its own forest fires to deal with in the East.

Re: Be-200 Multirole Amphibian
Have a fire sale?
The money spent on a dozen planes could save enormous amounts of money burned up by these fires.
Obviously a fire sale in this case means triple price rather than a price reduction, but there will be a demand so normal market economics apply.
Russia has been lending these planes to other countries for decades looking for sales... and nothing.

RIP.
It was a dangerous flying close to ground with no visibility because of smoke in a mountainous area. I guess it's the reason of the crash.

Re: Be-200 Multirole Amphibian
Wouldn't terrain sensors prevent that?
From the ssj100 crash to the an-26, there seem to be quite a few instances of Russian pilots slamming into mountains.

Pilot education in atmospheric dynamics would be an essential start. Sensors should already exist but the pilots ignore them because
they are cocky about their flying skillz.

Re: Be-200 Multirole Amphibian
Those forest fires are enormous and lasting for quite some time. Also Be-200 worked in very hot temperature. I read somewhere, that Canadairs could work to temperature up to +38oC, while Be-200 worked at +45oC. We do not know, how much flying hours in firefighting they have flown and howm much crew was tired. Concentration could be lower, smoke and hot air hide the picture behind.
Anyway, RIP to the crew. They saved many lifes.

Make It Commercial
Stop using Russian military and Emercom planes and crews to fight fires abroad. Let private companies lease those planes and charge accordingly to fight fires in places like Turkey or Greece.

Re: Be-200 Multirole Amphibian
To do firebombing in mountainous terrain you gotta completely ignore them.Wouldn't terrain sensors prevent that?
Its an inherently very dangerous activity.
This is allegedly the crash (actual crash not shown) https://twitter.com/RALee85/status/1426526256997224452, at least shows the kind of terrain they were working in.
Sarcasm about Western propaganda aside: this is what friendly neighbours do.Stop using Russian military and Emercom planes and crews to fight fires abroad. Let private companies lease those planes and charge accordingly to fight fires in places like Turkey or Greece.
The politicians & media will keep doing their BS but the locals will remember that Russia helped them when it was needed.
edit: Apparently was on lease.
