I welcome every situation that results in use of word 'crikey'
Especially if it is followed with: 'he's a feisty bugger !'

Wondered about that too but didn't feel confident enough to ID those WW2 pretties. But where the heck did they get the ZiS-2? Even the mighty Soviet military-industrial complex in war-mode produced it in huge numbers...and yet they're still around 70+ years later and not only as museum exhibits.

Egypt used them in fairly good quantities, so probably via that line.

The US lost a modern V-22 Osprey in Yemen. After landing crash, the aircraft was destroyed by US airstrike.

"destroyed" is a little bit ambitious...badly damaged is more realistic.

Agreed, just the stern got hit. The explosion looks like they could have hit the helicopter or a fuel source and didn't burn for long.archangelski wrote:calm wrote:Houthis destroyed a Saudi Al Maddina-class frigate

Probably a MV-22, the Marines assault version. They seem to have an engine problem with sand ingress. One Seal dead and at least 3 plus many others in the Osprey injured. Bit sobering for the US.eehnie wrote:

When you see how close they come to the hip with their boat, I think they were sleeping. No evasive manœuvres, no flares on the video, it seem like it was turned off.

The missile used was a Noor AShM. It's a subsonic missile with a huge deadzone at launch and skims at 8/10m, so it is very visible when you have the radar on. You can see as it attacks the stern the missile was dead over at the dip (when AShM is in terminal phase it dives at 2/3m over float line and boom).
So not seeing this one coming is really something. The missile was launched at 15/20 km which means basically 50-60 seconds of flight.
So there it is.

Re: Yemeni Conflict: News #2
The guy in the video clear idea who his enemy is, interestingly the Saudi Navy was not on the list.
The Houthi militia group has scored a major strike against a Saudi Arabian warship off the western coast of Yemen in the Red Sea.
Local media reports that a Saudi frigate patrolling the waters west of Hodeida was struck by Houthi weapons. The warship was struck by “three suicide boats belonging to the Houthi militias,” news outlet SPA said.
The Saudi news agency noted that the missile killed two navy servicemembers, while injuring three others. The Yemen-based group has corroborated SPA’s claims, noting that they hit the seacraft.
A man in the video shouted "Allahu Akbar, death to America, death to Israel, a curse on the Jews and victory for Islam."

More on that Seal raid. This is the first part of the article
Killed by Women? “Almost Everything Went Wrong” in Deadly Seal Team Al-Qaida Raid

A U.S. Navy Seal Team 6 raid on an al-Qaida cell in Yemen Saturday encountered several obstacles, resulting in the death of one operator and wounding six others.
The intent of the raid was to disrupt al-Qaida cell in the Arabian Peninsula that was plotting attacks on the U.S. and its allies. Beginning the operation, a Marine Corps MV-22 Osprey made a “hard landing” near the staging area, injuring three U.S. navy seals in transit to the operation. The downed aircraft was later destroyed by a U.S. airstrike, likely to protect the proprietary technology within it. The Pentagon clarified that the helicopter was not downed by enemy fire, but went down in a “separate but unrelated incident.”
As per MilitaryTimes:
U.S. commandos killed an unspecified number of women who allegedly shot at the Americans during a weekend raid targeting al-Qaida fighters in Yemen, the Pentagon said Monday as battlefield reports claimed several innocent civilians also perished in the operation.

New pictures came in, the rear is totally covered but the floating line is clear, there's no charring or peppering typical with level surface explosion.

Look here at the USS Cole :
So we know there were probably more than 2 KIA or the ASHM didn't hit at fullest. But damage comes from top.
