Central Design Bureau "Rubin" has developed a modernized project of diesel-electric submarines "Varshavyanka"

Diesel-electric submarines of project 636 "Varshavyanka" will be built according to a modernized project developed by the Rubin Central Design Bureau. This was told by Deputy General Director of "Rubin" Andrey Baranov.

Specialists of the Central Design Bureau have improved the Varshavyanka diesel-electric submarine project, in which the submarine received a hydroacoustic towed antenna that allows you to listen to the ocean in the rear hemisphere. This antenna, together with the front standard antenna, allows you to expand acoustic audibility up to 360 degrees. Also, the modernization once again touched the power plant, what work was carried out in this direction is not disclosed.

"Rubin" has completed a lot of studies showing possible directions for improving the project - from equipping with extended towed hydroacoustic antennas to the next modernization of the power plant - RIA Novosti quotes the words of Baranov.

It is noted that Project 636 Varshavyanka submarines remain in great demand, not only from the Russian fleet, but also from foreign customers. The possible equipping of submarines of this project with an anaerobic (air-independent) power plant (AIP) will only increase the number of orders. This is also understood in the Rubin Central Design Bureau, which is developing its own AIP.
As Baranov explained, Rubin is creating an anaerobic installation for non-nuclear submarines based on fuel cells with hydrogen production from diesel fuel. At what stage are the work is not reported. VNEU allows non-nuclear submarines to stay submerged longer without surfacing for recharging.

Submarine "Novorossiysk" will be repaired at the Kronstadt plant in 2023

According to a TASS source, the work will last up to four months.

MOSCOW, 22 October. /TASS/. Project 636.3 submarine "Novorossiysk" of the Black Sea Fleet will undergo scheduled repairs at the Kronstadt Marine Plant in 2023 after a months-long shift as part of the Mediterranean Squadron of the Russian Navy. This was reported to TASS by a source in the shipbuilding industry.

“The Novorossiysk submarine, which arrived in Kronstadt on October 13, will undergo scheduled repairs at the plant. It is expected that it will begin in January 2023 and last three to four months,” he said.

TASS has no official information on this matter.

Diesel-electric submarines of project 636.3 of the Russian Black Sea Fleet are regularly part of the Permanent Operational Force of the Russian Navy in the Mediterranean Sea. Until recently, these were Novorossiysk and Krasnodar. Submarines of this project have repeatedly attacked terrorist targets in Syria with Caliber-PL missiles from the Mediterranean Sea. They also attacked targets in Ukraine during a special military operation from the Black Sea.

The Black Sea Fleet has six Project 636.3 submarines built by the Admiralty Shipyards (as part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation).

On October 13, the Russian Defense Ministry announced the arrival of the Novorossiysk submarine and the Sergey Blak rescue tug accompanying it in Kronstadt. The sailors, who returned from a long voyage, were met by the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov.

There are plenty of Kalibrs and Russia is producing them since 2010-2012.
We should stop mentioning and amplifying that NATO psyop "how Russia is running out of missiles".
We keep listening that since march and after that at least 500-1000 Kalibers were fired.

From what I understand they replaced all six Kilos on the Black Sea Fleet, plus four Kilos on the Pacific Fleet with improved ones. They still need to replace two Kilos on the Pacific Fleet, and the Kilo on the Baltic Fleet. Plus there are supposedly plans to build four improved Kilos to replace older ones in the Northern Fleet. I also heard claims of six improved Kilos being built for Northern Fleet, but that is probably wrong, since they are also building two Lada submarines for Northern Fleet. So only four improved Kilo are required there.

There will be 6 new 636.3 for North Fleet and 4 for Baltic Fleet,in adition to 6 in the Black Sea and 6 for the Pacific Fleet (in Vladivostok)
    In total 22 Improved Kilos
There are a contract for 3 636.3 signed last year in adition to Petrozavodsk that are already being built, all for Baltic
Is expected another contract for 6 submarines 636.3 for North Fleet, the first will be named Mariupol

In adition are planned 6 Ladas for North Fleet and 6 for Pacific Fleet, in that case in Kamchatka with the SSBN´s
Ladas has a different role that 636.3

Source: the Mariupol submarine will be laid down for the Northern Fleet in autumn 2024
Submarines of project 636.3 "Varshavyanka" belong to the third generation of large diesel-electric submarines and are considered one of the quietest in the world

KRONSTADT, 24 June. /TASS/. The diesel-electric submarine (DEPL) of project 636.3 "Mariupol" will be laid down for the Northern Fleet at the Admiralty Shipyards next autumn. This was reported to TASS by a source in the naval sphere.

"The submarine of the Varshavyanka project named Mariupol will be laid down at the Admiralty Shipyards for the Northern Fleet next autumn," the agency's interlocutor said during the International Maritime Defense Show (IMDS-2023).

TASS does not have official confirmation of this information.

Earlier, a source in the naval sphere told TASS that diesel-electric submarines of project 636.3 Varshavyanka, which will be laid down at the Admiralty shipyards in 2024 for the Northern Fleet, will receive the names of cities in new regions of Russia. The first building will be named after Mariupol.

Submarines of project 636.3 "Varshavyanka" belong to the third generation of large diesel-electric submarines and are considered one of the quietest in the world. The submarines are 74 meters long and have a maximum displacement of over 3,900 tons.
The robust hull provides the submarine with a working depth of 240 m and a maximum diving depth of 300 m, a cruising range of up to 7,500 miles. The main armament of the submarines is the Kalibr-PL missile system.

It is very strange it seems that there has been a change of plans

First the Northern Fleet was going to receive 6 Lada's while it was said that another series of submarines pr.636.3 would go to the Baltic being the first submarine contracted in "Petrozavodsk"

Now it is said that the Northern Fleet will receive 6 pr.636.3 being the first Mariupol, while it is not clear what will happen to the Lada's, if they will also go to the Northern Fleet or stay in the Baltic

In any case, if the first 636.3 for the Northern Fleet is placed in 2024 and delivered in 2026 and a submarine is delivered every year, the brigade of 6 submarines would deliver one every year between 2026 and 2031

And it would still take a series of 6 more submarines for Kamchatka, which would take the pr.636.3 until the last delivery there by 2037
Another option would be to make another series of Lada's for the Black Sea and transfer the current brigade of 636.3 from the Black Sea to Kamchatka.

I personally think they should just make more Lada classes once the subs in the Black Sea and Pacific Fleet are replaced. Especially in the Baltic, the much smaller Lada makes more sense than the Kilo, since it should be way more survivable than the Kilo in that body of water.

The Lada will be the superior vessel and you can operate 6 ladas with the crew numbers of 3 Kilos, but it remains to be seen how quickly they can be built of course.

Hopefully they will have Li-ion batteries or something similar which will effect their performance (for the better) but also their cost (for the worst... but worth it), and of course the Ladas will be carrying... or capable of carrying rather expensive weapons which will also present a problem for a branch that is not overwhelmed with cash in the budget.

Of course as exports and international trade improves and Russia becomes rather richer then that funding can be directed into securing that trade and protecting new allies and trade partners who might also be interested in buying naval military equipment from Russia to defend their own interests too.

This conflict in the Ukraine should open Russias eyes and also the eyes of the rest of the world regarding the things the west will stoop to... I mean getting into bed with nazis... who could ever trust the US again?
