Diesel-electric submarines of project 636 "Varshavyanka" will be built according to a modernized project developed by the Rubin Central Design Bureau. This was told by Deputy General Director of "Rubin" Andrey Baranov.
Specialists of the Central Design Bureau have improved the Varshavyanka diesel-electric submarine project, in which the submarine received a hydroacoustic towed antenna that allows you to listen to the ocean in the rear hemisphere. This antenna, together with the front standard antenna, allows you to expand acoustic audibility up to 360 degrees. Also, the modernization once again touched the power plant, what work was carried out in this direction is not disclosed.
"Rubin" has completed a lot of studies showing possible directions for improving the project - from equipping with extended towed hydroacoustic antennas to the next modernization of the power plant - RIA Novosti quotes the words of Baranov.
It is noted that Project 636 Varshavyanka submarines remain in great demand, not only from the Russian fleet, but also from foreign customers. The possible equipping of submarines of this project with an anaerobic (air-independent) power plant (AIP) will only increase the number of orders. This is also understood in the Rubin Central Design Bureau, which is developing its own AIP.
As Baranov explained, Rubin is creating an anaerobic installation for non-nuclear submarines based on fuel cells with hydrogen production from diesel fuel. At what stage are the work is not reported. VNEU allows non-nuclear submarines to stay submerged longer without surfacing for recharging.
