Russia’s Rosatom to start building 2 units of Hungary’s Paks NPP in spring of 2015 — CEO
Currently, all work is proceeding in accordance with the schedule, even some time ahead of the schedule, Rosatom head Sergey Kiriyenko said
BUDAPEST, February 17. /TASS/. Russia’s civilian nuclear power corporation Rosatom will start the construction of two units of Hungary’s Paks nuclear power plant in the spring of 2015, Rosatom head Sergey Kiriyenko said on Tuesday.
"There is a clearly defined schedule and we’ll strictly comply with all regulations and requirements — the project will be used to make environmental impact assessment; work is underway to obtain a license and everything will proceed by stages," the Rosatom head added.
Currently, all work "is proceeding in accordance with the schedule, even some time ahead of the schedule," Kiriyenko noted.
Rosatom also plans to sign today an agreement with Hungarian partners on personnel training for work at the Paks NPP, Kiriyenko said.
"The Hungarian economy is developing quite rapidly and I would not rule out that as this project is implemented successfully, the government of Hungary may decide on building additional units," Kiriyenko added.
"But there is no such decision from the Hungarian government so far and that is why we respond to decisions based on specific needs," Kiriyenko went on to say.
The operation term of the existing reactors at the Paks NPP was recently extended, Kiriyenko said.
"The new reactors we’re building involve the latest post-Fukushima safety technologies, which have a guaranteed operation life of no less than 60 years while in reality this warranty is about 100 years," the Rosatom head concluded.
