Altius UAV program

the newest google earth image of Kazan shows an unknown (at least to me) huge Drone (30x12m). It seems not to be an Altius-M.
Any ideas?

Considering how long it has been seen on the runway I would bet that it already flew quite a bit

Altius-M is the name of the Scientific Research Program (Научно-исследовательская работа (НИР)). Altair is the name of the UAV that emerged as a result of that effort.

Aside from insinuation of corruption & mostly outsourcing of the work, it seems the thing barely works

at the end of 2014, when the device was supposed to fly, only an approach took place - the car was torn off the strip and re-planted. And with the first flight reached to 2015. Meanwhile, according to the terms of the state contract worth 3.6 billion rubles worth of design contracts (ROC) Altius-O, concluded in November 2014, the bureau by February 2017 was supposed to produce two UAV models and hand them over in November 2018 But today, the Okrovskaya car made only a few flights, while a minimum of 50 is required. The source itself describes the flights with irony: the maximum height is 800 m, the drone is controlled from a helicopter flying near it, while preparing for the flight takes more than a week.

I would usually say that it sounds like a bad joke but I can't because this sounds like a great joke. I laughed my ass off...

800m and a helicopter? You can't make that stuff up

Sending it to different developer is definitely smart thing to do. I hope they don't forget to sue previous ones for fraud.

We can only take blogs seriously for so much.

Its better to wait till June for if it will fly. otherwise, I forsee the project being on hold until Orion-2 comes out which would compete.

it isn't "stealth" its there for people to notice ...

come on you guys .... lift your game ....

They already have plenty of options to hit targets, they have repeatedly shown in Syria that they have a range of weapons to hit a variety of targets, but traditionally what they have lacked is recon platforms that they can send into dangerous areas or for long boring missions to collect data and information... that is what this is... and it can carry weapons in case a real time target is spotted that needs to be dealt with right away.

It is not a game changer or any of that BS modern talk crap media dicks talk about, it is just a tool they can use in specific situations.
