Re: Arms contracts with Venezuela
Waiting for official confirmation - SU-35/MIG-35 will be a stunning success that for sure.
Interesting comment from the Venezuelan guys on this link (they dont want anything under 50 fighters )

Venezuela buy Sukhoi-35 fighter jets
Venezuela would be one of the next international customers Russian fighter Sukhoi Su-35, as stated Konstantin Makiyenko, deputy director of the Center for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies, based in Moscow, RIA Novosti agency.
"The export growth Russian fighter aircraft depend mainly on new contracts for the Su-35 fighter," said Makiyenko. He said that China plans to buy initially 24 aircraft and "it is possible that more and then buy a license for their production", because they "have difficulty copying an aircraft like the Su-35", as it did with the Su-27. He added that, in the future, also Vietnam, Indonesia and possibly Venezuela can buy lots of important Russian warplanes.
It is recalled that in July 2012, the late President Hugo Chavez announced that it was negotiating with Russia the future purchase of Sukhoi fighter jets Su-35.
The Su-35 is a multipurpose fighter 4th car. generation "plus plus", which can reach a maximum speed of 2,500 km / h. Its range is 3,600 km and 4,500 km with external tanks. It has a barrel GSh-301 30 mm and can accommodate eight tons of weapons charge.

Re: Arms contracts with Venezuela
Well I don't know about stunning.
Su-35 will suffer from the Su-27s and 30s success, and the PAK-FA on the horizon.
MiG-35 will hopefully nab enough orders to keep MiG doing something.
Ugh no licenses to China please, unless they have to pay a shit-ton and don't get full ToT.

excellent pics and judging by the look it seems that this is the latest export S-300V modernization as the one shown on MAKS-2013.
It seems from pictures that Venezuelan PVO troopers are practicing some sort of simulation and firing from unprepaired positions.

Four Strela-10 are you sure Viktor? I thought it's Igla-S (that's what's in the picture at least).

Its about bloody time
Venezuela considers the purchase of Sukhoi
So they are talking about 24 Su-35
Venezuela considers the purchase of Sukhoi
Venezuela is considering the purchase of a new batch of fighter jets manufactured by the Russian firm Sukhoi fleet to reinforce the Venezuelan Military Aviation, announced the Minister of Popular Power for Defense, Admiral Chief Carmen Melendez Rivas, told reviewed by the private channel Venevision.
The minister did not specify the model under consideration. In this regard, we must remember that the Venezuelan Military Aviation account in your inventory with 24 Sukhoi Su-30MK2 aircraft, distributed in equal amounts in all air groups Game No. 11 and No. 13. And in order to raise to 18 units manning each of the two groups, several years ago intending to purchase twelve additional Su-30MK2 was announced; however, that purchase did not materialize
More recently, in July 2012, Venezuela formalized before the Russian government an application to acquire combat aircraft Sukhoi Su-35, whose current contents and state has not had more information.
Venezuela's interest in the fourth-generation fighter Multipurpose + + (or "fourth generation plus plus") dates back to 2006. Moreover, in recent months has transcended information from reliable sources, negotiations with the French authorities for the acquisition of 24 Dassault Rafale fighter aircraft.

Re: Arms contracts with Venezuela
Well that's that, I wasn't sure if they would go for 35's or for upgraded 30's like Algeria is getting. I wonder how they will split the fleet between the airbases, probably makes sense to keep most 30 on one base and most 35 on another, but secondary infrastructure to allow cross-basing seems useful.
I'm curious how long they will fly the F-16 for... J-10B seems a plausible replacement, or possibly the new Su-25 modernization. I'm not sure how compatable J-10B is with Russia weapons used on 30/35, though. I think they basically have the same model Su-30 that China has, so that might help? I'm kind of surprised MiG hasn't made a Russified J-10B export model, basically MiG-35 avionics on J-10B platform. What with providing the engine for J-10B I don't see how they could be rejected to do such a thing, and it doesn't seem that objectionable from Chinese perspective anyways. Chinese J-10B seems plausible for Venezuela anyways though, they have alot of Chinese kit these day (I believe they just announced buying the L-15 trainer), and the parts commonality with Su-30 engine is nice.

I would expect MIG would prefer to sell Mig-29M2s and later upgrade them with Mig-35 components...

Venezuela Tests Russian Multiple Rocket Launcher Systems
MEXICO CITY, May 13 (RIA Novosti) – Venezuela has conducted successful tests of Russian Grad and Smerch multiple rocket launchers, Operational Strategic Commander in Chief, General Vladimir Padrino Lopez said Tuesday.
Venezuelan TV channel Globovision reported that the tests were carried out at a facility in the country’s southwestern state of Apure. “These are high technologies weapons systems,” Lopez said, adding that the tested weapons are capable of destroying any target.
Igor Korotchenko, a leading Russian military expert, earlier told RIA Novosti Venezuela would become Russia’s second-largest arms exporter, after India by 2015, with weapons sales to be estimated at $3.2 billion.
Russia's state-controlled arms trader Rosoboronexport signed around 30 arms supply contracts with Venezuela between 2005 and 2009.
The BM-30 Smerch (Tornado) MLRS uses 300mm rockets with a range of 70 to 90 km with a variety of warheads. The BM-21 Grad (Hail) MLRS has a firing range of up to 20 kilometers.
