Re: Iraq turns its eye on Russian weapons
Iraqi MOD magazine has a detailed article on the Protivnik GE, 3D surveillance radar.
Often such articles are a prelude for the announcement of deliveries of systems to the armed forces.

On that note, do we have any conformation on fulcrum sales to Iraq??

Iraq turns its eye
Does Russia export SU-34 already, Iraq would do real good with that aircraft, there's a lot to bomb on the ground in both Iraq and Syria.

no. none at all. but then again most details were not publicised upfront... hell even the latest Mi171s we only found out about when they arrived... or even simple things like old D20 howitzers.

I have no info that it does not, NAPO has been winding production up. They are booked for RuAF but I am sure if Iraq flashed them bills the VVS might be convinced to delay delivery of a dozen birds by 7-10 months.
Feel like they would offer refubed Su-24s to Iraq first though.

Wasn't the Su-32 meant for export or is this version already out of question?

If there is a lot to bomb... perhaps a Tu-22M3M with inflight refuelling reattached....

I think Su-34 will not be exported, only for domestic use. Su-30 is good enough for export.

if thats the case then Russia could lend a hand a few Tu-160 followed by 12 Tu-95's or if you want to make sure you get the job done make then all carry FOAB

All of that is unrealistic though, I don't even think SU-34/32 will be spoken of anytime soon, neither SU-35/30. Another squadron of modern SU-25 is realistic.

Re: Iraq turns its eye on Russian weapons
yes the Iraqi MOD were talking about getting more "sukhois" and munitions for them in lieau of the L159s and cancelled payment for F16IQ.
They were sadly not more specific on what they meant by "sukhois".

Re: Iraq turns its eye on Russian weapons
Strategic bombers would certainly be out of the question, but Backfires would not be impossible... a 24 ton payload of bombs with inflight refuelling it would have a 2,000km attack radius... it would be a very capable weapon.
Imagine GLONASS guided 500kg bombs... 48 of them... or provide forward troops with laser designators and have 24 x 500kg laser guided bombs and 24 GLONASS guided bombs as backup for targets in known locations...
Of course if they mentioned Sukhois just looking at the offer of Fencers to Argentina I would suspect that as they introduce Su-34s they are freeing up Fencers and are looking for options... remove all the nuclear delivery equipment and you have upgraded advanced and capable aircraft... you don't want to scrap them but you don't have the manpower to keep them all...

I agree, considering Russia isn't phasing out Su-25 the SU-24 will be the most likely choice of Iraq unless they're seeking new SU-30's which I doubt as we need stuff ASAP. Iraq can acquire a few squadrons of the SU-24 for the attack role.
Considering the UAE is giving Iraq 10 Mirage 2000 aircraft Iraq can eventually buy other M-2000's from other countries, giving Iraqi air force the following inventory of fighter aircraft. Not bad
-F16 ( multirole )
-MIRAGE 2000 ( multirole )
-SU-25 ( CAS )
-SU-24 ( attack/strike )

Mi-28 and Bell 407's arrived
I don't see the top mounted radars on the Mi-28's, but the officer in the vid said 'The radars for the night attack have been delivered'

Nice, how many Mi-28, two or more? And what about those Bell-407, are they trainer version? Second hand? They don't seem to have any weapon pylons or MAWS.
Meanwhile check these beauties, at least 5 Pantsirs here (thanks to Babylonian Alwash):

They'll probably attach stuff on the Bell later-on, they'll need to attach FLIR for recon at least, don't know how many Mi-28

Re: Iraq turns its eye on Russian weapons
Yes the commander of the army aviation categorically confirmed three points.
Radars have been delivered along with new weapons with the latest batch of mi28.
Another batch of mi28 will be received in 2 days. Fulfilling the first contract for the type.
Night firing training with the new equipment will commence soon and they will be operational in march.

Nope, they won't. How many people drive in Iraq on pickups, vans or just some average cars? How many of them do you can distinguish between ISIS and civilian? You need Intel and need to use FLIR and mainly Day Light TV since in FLIR you can not distinguish alot of their movements or what they actually do, with day light high resolution camera you can see better and classify if someone is a threat or not.iraqidabab wrote:The MI-28 radars will be useful against ISIS which mainly uses pick up trucks ?
