Iraq and Egypt became Russia arms clients once again with Turkey around the corner.

Apparently they've been talks since EDEX 2018.
"The snapshot attached to the image of the tank is by the Minister of Military Production, Major General Dr. Muhammad Al-Assar, while receiving a picture of the tank model T-90MS from Alexander Potapov, director of the Uralvagonzavod “Uralvagonzavod” for tanks and land-based equipment, during the activities of the Military and Defense Industries Exhibition “EDEX 2018”.

Damn, Egypt will have more modern tanks than Russia if and once this agreement comes into force.

Their main goal is to sell new tanks to foreign countries. Russia still has more nuks than any other nation has tanks... they won't use modern tanks any day soon.

It's been a while that there are rumors Egypt was negociating t-90.

Yep, that's exactly what the main goal for this contract is. Building them in Egypt and selling them mostly to African countries. I think they will replace the T-62s that are currently deployed with the Egyptian Republican Guard which is around 100 tanks and the rest and subsequent builds will be for sale to African countries.

No, dont get me wrong, I agree - its business. Russian tanks are fine and the T-72's upgraded in service are sufficient for their needs. But still. Would be nice to see Russians driving around in much newer stuff and in numbers.

Re: Russia - Egypt military contracts
They seem to be buying T-90s for themselves as well as their next gen tanks... ie Armata, Kurganets, and Boomerang based tanks as well as Sprut which has also been upgraded.
If anything I think they might have too many tanks...

Well, too many in terms of variants. But that was obvious as to why - T-80's worked well in the arctic regions so upgrading all T-80's would be ideal for all northern regions. T-72's on other hand are great but it would be even better to have a similar upgrade of the T-90AM in the T-72 tanks. It could really give new life of the T-72's while really not needing to push Armata for anytime soon (just small batches while Boomerang and Kurganets get more importance in production).

Aren't they upgrading them to the T-72 B3M standard since 2016?
Furthermore many old Tu72 could also be upgraded to BMPT terminator 2 standard

Re: Russia - Egypt military contracts
Odds are most countries don't need a full compliment of the latest vehicles... there will be plenty of places where there is likely no enemy armour to deal with and even a previous generation tank can effectively do the job of direct fire 125mm HE shells out to 8-12km range... with improved sights and ammo and improved communications the target wont honestly know whether that 125mm HE shell came from a T-90 or upgraded T-72 or upgraded T-80. The cost of upgrades is rather small compared with brand new purchases.
There will be units that can use older models better because they might be lighter or smaller.. but I suspect the lower purchase and operational costs of Boomerang based vehicles and Typhoon family vehicles that vehicles of those two types with a decent gun might be produced in rather large numbers and very widely used.... probably 125mm for the Boomerang and 57mm for the Typhoon... or possibly even 120mm gun/mortar for the Typhoon...
With wheeled mobilty and relatively low running costs of wheels they will be fast and mobile in most situations...

Re: Russia - Egypt military contracts
Couple of cool videos. First one is of the Egyptian M1A1 Abrams and some of the factory assembling to some training action.
The 2nd video is of the opening of the huge Bernice military base on the Red Sea cost and the inauguration featured a VIP delegation and some cool taking off and landing and passing by as well as buddy-buddy A2A refueling of the MiG-29M/M2 (I just call it the MiG-35 and be done with it! lol) as well as the buddy-buddy with the Rafale. Included are some neat landings and taking off the the two new IL-76s bought from the Jordanian air force as well as Ka-52s and the rare Egyptian Mi-24 Hinds.

Re: Russia - Egypt military contracts
IMO we can expect at least 1 il-78 to be bought in hurry to refuel all the new fighters they ordered from Russia.
Why not also 1 A-50 from russian stocks.

Thanks for the correction, bro. I also didn't think they were accurate because a 3rd picture included in that batch -- that I didn't post -- was of one that had the red star on one of the V-stabs and the engine was quite used up as if it had been flying heavy testing flights. I think the Twitter handle that posted them was referring to the jets being under construction and just used those pics.

I guess egypt got already the Bastion system
https://www.hse.ru/mirror/pubs/share/217045810
On 13-14 November 2013, the first RussianEgyptian meeting of the two countries’ defence and foreign affairs ministers was held in Cairo in a “2 + 2” format. The participants agreed to expand cooperation in the area of military air and naval forces. Some experts say that in the course of these negotiations firearms contracts worth more than $3 billion27 were agreed for the supply of 24 MiG-29M/M2 fighters, 12 Mi-35 M attack helicopters, the K300P “Bastion” mobile coastal missile system, and “Tor-2ME”, as well as weapons and a m munition. According to other sources, the package deal also included ATGM “Kornet” and Mi-8/17 helicopters.

They also bought the Protivnik-GE radar and surveillance with its incredible range and supposed capability to detect stealth aircraft.
