Another article even went on to mention that possibly the Mig-29K could be transferred as Russian aircraft carrier is out of action and may ever be out back in service or a replacement would take years. Also possibly Mig-29SMT to be sent as well.

That was the Yelzin approach. Scrap the new plane (Yak-141) because the ships are not ready, then scrap the ships because the aircraft was canceled.The Kuznetsov has received upgrades and modifications and will be back in service over next couple of years, getting rid of its air component would be stupid.
