Kharkiv plant to repair and modernize T-80UD tanks for Pakistan Army. In Ukraine, the modernization of one of the versions of the T-80 tanks has begun. We are talking about the main battle tank in the T-80UD modification, which was developed in Kharkiv in the 1970s as object 478B "Bereza" (Eng: Birch) – a tank with various variants of a diesel power plant. The initial version of the T-80UD MBT was adopted by the Soviet Army in 1987.
At the state enterprise "Zavod im.Malysheva" started modernization of the T-80UD. At the same time, Pakistan ordered the modernization and repair of tanks. The information was confirmed by the General Director of Ukrspetsexport Vadym Nozdrya. According to him, the contract includes the purchase of components for carrying out repair and modernization works.
The price parameters of the contract are also named. According to the latest data, Pakistan is ready to pay $ 85.6 million. A third of the amount in the form of an advance payment from Islamabad has already been received. However, there is no exact data yet on exactly how many T-80UD tanks will be repaired and upgraded at the Kharkiv enterprise for the Pakistani customer.
Some parameters of repair and modernization are named. So, it is planned to install new engines and gearboxes. The chassis will also be updated.
For reference: Pakistan has 320 T-80UD tanks. The corresponding contracts were implemented in the 1990s.
Today, the State Enterprise "Malyshev Plant" offers Pakistan to purchase 52 new engines for existing modifications of the T-80 MBT.
