Re: Kazakhstan Armed Forces
Armored vehicles "Marauder" in Kazakhstan
The highlight of the program at the grand military parade on May 7, 2017 in Astana in honor of the 25th anniversary of the Kazakh Armed Forces will be the demonstration of new military equipment. Ground forces will present armored car "Arlan", which in December of last year entered the armament of military units in three regions of the country.
For the first time, the brutal 16-ton armored car with an intriguing and somewhat provocative title "Marauder" was first widely known in 2011 after the next release of the popular Top Gear show.
Actually, this is what its developer and manufacturer, the South African concern Paramount Group, aspired. Only in this way it was possible to occupy its narrow niche in the international arms market, where not only the fierce competition reigns, but the real law of the jungle works. Marauder was created in the middle of the zero and was soon mass-produced under foreign contracts. Today, except Kazakhstan, it is in the arsenal of five countries - Azerbaijan (45 units), Algeria (2 units), Jordan (25 units), Republic of Congo (37 units).
Ιn South Africa itself, 50 machines are in service. In Kazakhstan, according to public sources, slightly less. The exact number of cars received by the troops is not called for reasons of secrecy. Although, if you google, you can find a figure of 200 cars, which, most likely, is the claimed (but only partially covered) primary need for these machines of our law enforcement agencies. It is known that in Kazakhstan armored vehicles were delivered to the units of the Ministry of Defense and the National Guard.
With Kazakhstan, Paramount Group has the most serious contract for today. The project with localization of production in our country is very harmoniously blended with the concept of rearmament of the Kazakh army. In Kazakhstan as a whole, there are very limited production opportunities and there is no own school for the construction of armored vehicles. At the same time, security agencies are in great need of new models of combat vehicles of various classes.
A few years ago, Paramount Group and Kazakhstan Engineering signed an agreement on the establishment of a licensed enterprise Kazakhstan Paramount Engineering, where it was planned to deploy production of equipment under a license. The plant in Astana was built quite quickly: only 3 years passed from the capsule laying in the special economic zone "Astana-Zhana Kala" (December 11, 2013) to the delivery of the first batch of products (December 2016). Officially, the enterprise was opened on November 30, 2015 with the participation of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In December 2016, the enterprise successfully fulfilled its obligations to supply armored wheeled vehicles "Arlan" of its own production for the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan. At the same time, the employees of the enterprise conducted training of personnel of military units to ensure efficient operation of the machines.
"Arlan" for the National Guard painted black
"Arlan" is a multipurpose armored wheeled vehicle with enhanced mine protection mine type MRAP (mine resistant ambush protected). Machines of this type have a large ground clearance, a V-shaped bottom, which allows to resist fragments and dissipate the energy of the explosion. "Arlan" has a high mine protection level STANAG 3b - 8 kg in trotyl equivalent under each wheel and under the same amount, 50 kg in trotyl equivalent at a distance of 5 meters.
The enterprise is capable of producing the following types of wheeled vehicles:
Johan Delport, Deputy Director General of Kazakhstan Paramount Engineering
About how the company plans to implement all the tasks assigned to it, said Deputy General Manager of KPE Johan Delport.
- At the moment we produce only one configuration of the car - Arlan with a 4x4 wheel formula. In the future we are going to produce such cars as "Barys" 6x6, "Barys" 8x8 and a special machine for internal troops "Nomad". It will be a police car. Machine "Arlan" was designed in South Africa. But, since in Kazakhstan specific climatic features, we had to adapt it - these were constructive changes for the machine to work in the range from +50 to -50 degrees Celsius.
- What exactly has been changed in the design?
- Within the framework of our program for improving the car for winter conditions, we made the following changes: heating of the inner inhabited space, heating of the driver's and commander's place. Also, a lot of work was done to implement the engine heating system. The engine must run smoothly in the coldest conditions. One of the biggest changes is an increase in the diameter of the wheel. This allowed to increase the load on the ground by 20%. As a result of these changes, the car showed good results in winter conditions. When moving through the snow, its mobility is at a sufficiently high level.
- Who delivers components for the production of cars in Kazakhstan?
- The machine was developed in South Africa, so many component suppliers were selected from the African region. Components such as the engine, transmission, are freely available and available to all. These are mainly components from Europe. For example, the engine we have from the UK, the transmission is American, but produced under license in many countries around the world. The main components, such as the air conditioning system, armored capsule, were designed in South Africa, and there are also manufacturers. Components for the car come from more than 10 countries.
- You have put the first batch of cars for power structures. Will the machines in the future somehow differ constructively?
"Since the Cummins engines are being manufactured all over the world today, we have very successfully found an identical engine that is manufactured in Russia. The second batch of engines we buy in Russia. These engines are put on KamAZ - they are very reliable and, in addition, generally available, that is, they are produced not only for military equipment.
- What is the percentage of localization of production in Kazakhstan?
- Initially, it was decided that for our first project we will completely produce armored capsules. This steel is produced in Sweden by SSAB. In our second project, we not only produce armored capsules, but also brackets, mountings and various small metal parts. According to the first draft, localization reached 39%, in the second project we want to achieve localization of 50%. And in the next three years we want to achieve localization of production in Kazakhstan at the level of 60-70%.
- What are the plans for entering foreign markets?
- The productivity of our plant is 120 cars per year. If there are orders, we can produce 200 cars a year, if we work in two shifts. Our priority customer is the army of Kazakhstan. We also have an agreement with our partner in Africa - Paramount Group, that we will work in the market of Central Asia. Very serious interest is shown by the countries that are south of Kazakhstan - Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan. To date, Azerbaijan directly works with our partners - Paramount Group. They bring cars in parts from South Africa, they gather at home. But in the future we want to be suppliers of these machines to Azerbaijan. As for our northern neighbor - Russia, of course, they are self-sufficient and are quite capable of providing themselves with the products of the defense industry complex, but we also cooperate with them as suppliers. Jordan and Saudi Arabia are interested in cars with a wheel formula 8x8.
- What is the cost of your cars?
- For the basic configuration of our machine, the price is fixed for all customers. The price for today is quite competitive. There is a basic configuration of our car, and there are options, some additional solutions: these can be different types of weapons, mechanical or electric winch, fire extinguishing system, radiation protection system, chemical agents or biological agents, etc. If these elements are available, the price , Of course, will change. Also, if the customer offers some kind of solution, we, on our part, are ready to implement it. For example, the installation of reconnaissance equipment or any radio equipment. In general, the price range - from 6-7-tonne machine 4x4 to a wheeled car 8x8 - varies from 500 thousand.

Kazakhstan signed a contract for the purchase of two more military transport aircraft Airbus C295
As the European Airbus group reported on April 20, 2017, it signed a contract for the delivery of two more Airbus C-295 turboprops to Kazakhstan, in addition to the six previously delivered. The agreement was signed in accordance with the memorandum of understanding of 2012, according to which Kazakhstan was to receive a total of eight C-295 aircraft.
The first military transport aircraft, delivered by Kazakhstan, Airbus C295 (onboard number "01 red", serial number 093) (c) Airbus
This contract brings the total number of contracted Airbus C295 aircraft to 186 units, including 12 - by CIS countries (eight Kazakhstan and four Uzbekistan).
The bmpd comment. Recall that the Air Defense Forces of Kazakhstan became the first customer of twin-engine turboprop military transport aircraft Airbus С-295 in the territory of the former USSR in accordance with the memorandum of 2012, having received six cars with the serial numbers 093, 096, 119, 126, 153 and 158 (2013-2016) respectively, red board numbers from "01" to "06"), built at the Airbus (former CASA) enterprise in Seville, Spain. The aircraft are in service with the 281st Aviation Squadron, based in Alma-Ata.

Re: Kazakhstan Armed Forces
Kazakhstan received the first Su-25 attack aircraft after repairs and modernization in Belarus
On the bmpd side, we point out that only 12 Su-25 attack aircraft and two Su-25UB fighters, transferred in the late 1990s from the Air Force of Russia in the framework of aviation equipment supplies in exchange for the return of the strategic Tu-95MS bombers by Kazakhstan, are available to the entire country. As part of the air defense forces of Kazakhstan Su-25 attack aircraft are part of the assault aviation squadron of the 602nd aviation base (Shymkent, formerly Shymkent).
The contract for the overhaul and modernization of a part of the Su-25 fleet (presumably, six cars) was signed by the Belarusian OJSC "558th Aircraft Repair Plant" ("558 ARZ", Baranovichi) and Kazakhstani LLP "KAI" ("Kazakhstan Aviation Industry ") in May 2016 at the defense exhibition KADEX-2016 in Astana. At the same time, it was provided for the possibility of further work on the remaining Su-25 airplanes on the basis of the aviation-technical center in Kazakhstan.
It was reported that the proposed 558 ARZ variant of modernization of these aircraft, implemented during the overhaul of the Kazakhstani Su-25, provides for increasing the combat effectiveness of the Su-25 to destroy ground and air targets by modernizing the sighting complex and introducing new modes of operation (in particular, c 2000 up to 5000 m the maximum bombing height was increased without entering the zone of defeat of the military air defense).
There is an expansion of the range of weapons, for the application of which and the implementation of new regimes of combat use, the regular aviation rifle sight ASP-17BTS is being refined.
Su-25 modernized aircraft are equipped with a satellite navigation system of the SNA type. It is a 14-channel receiver, operating on the signals of satellite navigation systems GLONASS and GPS. The SNS system provides an increase in the accuracy of navigation (up to 5 m) and the provision of a low-altitude flight regime with avoiding obstacles.
The unprotected open and protected telephone and telecode radio communication, when interacting with other aircraft and with ground control points, is provided by the on-board communication complex of BCS.
It was also planned to install "558 ARZ" devices in the process of upgrading to the Su-25 airplane of the "Satellite" EW equipment.
Earlier, under the contract of 2007, "558 ARZ" carried out the repair and modernization of ten Su-27 and Su-27UB air defense fighters of Kazakhstan, the planes were returned to service in 2009-2010.

Upgraded Su-25UBM Air Force of Kazakhstan
Grigory Bedenko's interesting report on the Kazakhstan web resource Informburo.kz about the operation of the Su-25UBM (yellow side numbers "14" and "15") modernized Su-25UBM combat training aircraft in the Air Force of the Air Defense of Kazakhstan, which completed the December 2017 repair and modernization at the OJSC "558th Aviation Repair Plant" (Baranovichi, Belarus). Also in the report in an interview with the commander of the Air Force of Kazakhstan, Major-General Dauren Kosanov, some information on the future plans of the Air Force of the Republic is reported.
In total, the Kazakh Air Force has 12 Su-25 attack planes and two Su-25UBs, which were transferred from the Air Force of Russia in the late 1990s as part of aviation equipment supplies in exchange for the return of strategic Tu-95MS bombers by Kazakhstan. At the same time, it was provided for the possibility of further work on the remaining Su-25 airplanes on the basis of the aviation-technical center in Kazakhstan.
The command of the Air Force [Kazakhstan] for the first time showed modernized front-line Su-25UBM attack aircraft, which entered the military airbase in Shymkent in early January.
These planes were converted in Byelorussia by a group of specialists from the 558th aircraft repair plant located in Baranovichi. The advantages of modernized "rooks" - in an exclusive reportage Informburo.kz.

The first military transport plane Y-8F-200WA flew to Kazakhstan
At 9:20 am on September 23, 2018, the Y-8F-200WA military aircraft (number 01 "yellow"), produced by the Chinese aircraft manufacturer Shaanxi Aircraft Company in Yunnan, departed from the Shaanxi Liigu Airport in Chenggu to Kazakhstan with a transit stop in Urumqi. Shaanxi for the needs of the Main Command of the National Guard of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Modification Y-8F-200 differs elongated by 2.2 m fuselage.
The Y-8 is a licensed analogue of the Soviet An-12 aircraft, produced since 1974. Kazakhstan will become the third foreign recipient of the Y-8 family in the transport configuration in recent years after the Bolivarian Air Force of Venezuela, with eight planes of the same export version delivered in 2012-2013 and the Myanmar Air Force that received five Y-8D aircraft in the 1990s, 1994 and 2 aircraft Y-8F-200W in 2016.
It is also reported that this is the first contract that was signed with a member state of the CIS.
Chinese sources report about 8 contracted Y-8F-200 aircraft for the needs of the power structures of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Re: Kazakhstan Armed Forces
a few questions if anyone can answer.
Firstly does any know where I can find a list of equipment for ground forces including air defence systems.
Secondly like all ex soviet countries they were left with various aircraft such as su-24 etc. Did Kazakhstan get left any su-24? All I can find was a mention of a 2-3 MR versions I'd imagine it they got left MR that they likely had attack versions. But also it also looks to me that they might not have had any at all because around 12 mig-27 are in service along with 3-4 mig-23 which I presume will likely be used as trainers for the mig-27. Now if they were left su-24 then surely they would have retired the mig-27 and kept su-24 in service as it's better and more upgrades available. so can someone clarify this.
Is su-30 replacing the mig-27 or will they replace with su-34/32?
The mig-27 with a similar upgrade package as su-24 would good enough but parts must be getting small now. and of course having su-34/32 maintenance would be streamlined with them getting su-30 and having su-27 already.

Re: Kazakhstan Armed Forces
Kazakhstan received four more Su-30SM fighters
On December 25, 2018, the Ministry of Defense of Kazakhstan reported that "as part of military-technical cooperation between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation, another batch of new super-maneuverable Su-30SM fighters arrived in the Armed Forces of Kazakhstan."
Arrival of one of the four Su-30SM fighter aircraft (airborne number “12 red”, serial number 10МК5 1606) built by the Irkutsk Aviation Plant PJSC “Irkut Corporation” and supplied by the Russian Federation under the contract 2015 Taldy-Kurgan, 12.25.2018 (c) Ministry of Defense of Kazakhstan
From the side of bmpd, let us point out that, according to available information, four new Su-30SM fighters produced by the Irkutsk Aviation Plant (IAP) of Irkut Corporation - airplanes with red side numbers "09", "10", "11" and "12" (serial numbers, respectively, from 10МК5 1603 to 10МК5 1606), of which the first two arrived in Kazakhstan on December 20-21, and the last two - on December 25 of 2018 year.
Thus, the total number of Su-30SM aircraft received by Kazakhstan reached 12 units. All of them are armed with the 604th airbase, which now thus has a fully equipped squadron of Su-30SM.
Recall that earlier Kazakhstan had concluded three contracts for the purchase of a total of 24 Su-30SM fighter jets manufactured by IAP. According to the first contract concluded in 2014, worth about 5 billion rubles, Kazakhstan received four Su-30SM fighters with red tail numbers from “01” to “04” (serial numbers, respectively, from 10МК5 1118 to 1120 and 1201), which arrived in Taldy-Kurgan in April 2015.
In December 2015, Kazakhstan entered into a second contract for eight (initially the media erroneously indicated the number seven) additional Su-30SM fighters, according to which NWO of Kazakhstan received the first two aircraft (red side numbers "05" and "06", serial numbers 10МК5 1315 and 10MK5 1316) in December 2016, and two more aircraft (red side numbers "07" and "08", serial numbers 10MK5 1507 and 10MK5 1508) - in December 2017. Now the remaining four Su-30SM were delivered under this contract.
In August 2017, Russia and Kazakhstan signed a three-year framework contract for the supply of another 12 Su-30SM aircraft, under which in May 2018 a firm contract was signed for the delivery of eight fighter jets in 2019-2020.
Earlier it was reported that the Ministry of Defense of Kazakhstan plans to acquire a total of 36 Su-30SM aircraft by 2020.
