"IRGC announced today that eight Iranian servicemen were killed in the past 24 hours in Syria. Fars News Agency quoted Ramezan Sharif, a spokesman for the IRGC, as saying that IRGC members Abdollah Bagheri and Amin Karimi and six other unnamed servicemen were killed in Syria yesterday and today, without giving their ranks. Reports in social media had indicated that actually 15 IRGC serviceman were killed near Aleppo, but IRGC spokesman denied those reports, saying only eight were killed.

Abdollah Bagheri, 33, one of the IRGC servicemen killed in action, was identified as the former bodyguard of former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The photos in social media show Ahmadinejad at the late Bagheri’s house saying condolences to his family. Iran was reported to have deployed some 2,000 IRGC Ground Force troops to Syria after the start of the Russian involvement in the country’s civil war on 30 September. They have joined hundreds of Quds Force advisers and specialists already in Syria. The introduction of ground troops into the conflict has changed Iran’s strategy of maintaining a small footprint of advisers to a limited deployment of ground forces directly involved in the conflict. 15 servicemen killed in action, or eight as IRGC says, is the largest number of Iranian casualties in a 24-hour period in more than 4 years of conflict in Syria."

SAA is not an army at this point. They are on same level as those "rebels" if not worse. It is like Ukraine, they forgot about army and now they have consequences. Simple as that. Any gains even tiny ones are good as they were loosing territory before. Islamists are not the strongest enemy too, push them hard and they will break.

Syria is under attack by a very powerful coalition of US ,UK-France -Turkey-Israel-Jordan and Gulf Allies. Thousands of NATO forces are fighting in the side of the terrorist and they provided with all kind of weapons imbecile.  From chemical warfare and drones and even now have NATO Airforces providing logistics from the air ,communications and dropping munitions ,food and supplies to them..  Just recently an Israeli Colonel was captured in IRAQ ,according to IRaquis sources that was leading the fight of ISIS. There are pentagon generals in the ground leading the terrorist.. israeli too.. And according to Syrian sources Turkey army invaded Syria with the take over of IDlib. Is a small scale world war what Syria is facing ,lead by USA.  The Syrian army have been fighting alone in the ground for 4 years with a small help of hezbolah that do not have a big army ,just few thousands soldiers and Iran is not even sending lots of soldiers , just a small force of couple of thousands soldiers with light weapons ,and only because now Russia is helping.

A commander in the Islamist Ahrar al-Sham group told Al-Souria Net that “kamikaze drones thought to be [of] Iranian [origin] were used [on Monday to strike] Syrian opposition military bases in rural Idlib, causing extensive material damage at the targeted location.”

“Five aircrafts loaded with explosives targeted an Ahrar al-Sham base in the town of Ma'ar Shimmareen [near] Idlib province’s Ma’aret Nuaman,” Hassan Abu Hamid claimed.

“The destructive force of the plane was equal to the destructive force of an 82 mm mortar round, but had a higher fragmentation rate,” he explained.

Abu Hamid noted that the UAVs usually record footage of the target area and strike when it has been identified.

“It is difficult to see [these] planes because their low noise and small size, which makes the chances of shooting them [down] very slim.”

Looks far to accurate to be a helicopter. That looks like S-8 rocket engagement and the grouping is just on a sniping level. If that was carried out by air it was most probably Su-25.

I agree that the various arms of the US Government are well capable of planning all kinds of events often with the left hand not knowing quite what the right hand is up to. However, the Russians seem to be pretty astute in tracking this.

The RuAF has already hit Raqqa, if it were to see movement of ISIS forces there as you describe there is no reason to think that they would not hit them again. That is a big problem for the US if they were to adopt the plan you describe, the uncertainty, which would probably that the 'management' in ISIS, whoever they are, would think twice about it.

Those guys certainly seem to lead from the front. Not often a Western Brigadier gets killed like this. Down to belief and culture I suppose.

TEHRAN, October 24. /TASS/. A top commander of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) who fulfilled his duty as a military adviser has been killed in clashes in central Syria, the Fars News Agency has reported.

Brigadier General Reza Khavari "was martyred in clashes with Takfiri terrorists in the Northern parts of the province of Hama, Central Syria, Thursday night." This brings the number of IRGC casualties in the war-torn country over the past several days to eight.

The eight casualties have been confirmed by IRGC Public Relations Chief General Ramezan Sharif.
