Poor sunnis in the NDF just deserted.
I remember that Strelkov executed people in the Donbass for desertion.

There's no confirmation that Mahin and Huwarin have been recovered by SAA. News about an attempted counterattack, sure. But not complete recovery.
Unless I'm missing something.

Monarchist is a strange fellow. He ignores the dramatic change of strategic situation since late September, hardly even cheers when SAA captures something - but when SAA loses one village, he suddenly appears and screams "OMFG SAA is incompetent they are losiiiing!!!". Dunno if it's deliberate defeatist propaganda or just a very peculiar case of pessimism, mixed with built-in information filter.

Be that as it may, the fashion which they lost places like Banis or Mahin is far from competent retreat under heavy fire, superior enemy, etc. There's something rotten in Denmark.

Simple: he wants Russia to wage some Holy Orthodox War in Ukraine and is pissed off that they are bombing ISIS instead. Like Ukraine and it's population is something worth fighting over. Let the place rot and pick up the pieces I say.
Add to that a fact that he is not even Russian and it gets interesting.

Your right. There are no russians there, russian cities, holy land and people are in Syria. We should just abandon people that died for Russia and showed themselves to be more russian than those living in Moscow, Piter etc.
I'm pissed of at the lack of results of the bombing campaign, much of the SAA is totally useless and just deserts.
Many of you just post Kremlin propaganda that's no way close to reality. There are no major successes so far.
PapaDragon wrote:SAA still exists and grinds on. They may bleed a lot but it is their land and their blood. They have no one to blame for their incompetence and casualties but themselves.

There are, just two though.
Hadher at SW Aleppo and lift of Kuweiris with associated ring expansion at NE Aleppo. Both are major.
Of course this does not bring back the war to where it was in 2013.
SAA still needs to:
> regain Palmyra and lift the siege of Deir er Zor
> seal off Latakia border and clear the province
> recapture Jisr Shugur
> reach and capture Saraqib
> lift the siege of Foua
> do something about the presence of IS in eastern Hama/Homs and Suwaida

Russian Armed forces restored tank repair plant in Syria's HOMS.
Now the company is working at full capacity. This information was reported by the Russian defense Minister Sergei Shoigu during today's Collegium of the military Department.
In addition, according to him, during the entire Syrian operation VKS RF our planes and naval ships have transported 214 tons of various cargoes that are needed for its implementation.
The militants now control up to 70 percent of Syrian territory. Meanwhile, the number of terrorists exceeds 60 thousand persons, — added the Minister.
We will remind, Russia since September 30, conducts an air operation in Syria. With the request for military assistance to counter terrorist activities, including from prohibited in the Russian Federation "Islamic state" and "jabhat al an-Nusra"Moscow asked Syria's President Bashar al-Assad.
The Syrian armed forces received a batch of main battle tanks of the Russian production of T-90A.
As it became known, the Syrian Arab Army has received an undisclosed number of tanks T-90A for the purpose of training combat crews. It is expected that in the near future in Syria can be delivered a large batch of T-90A to equip advanced troops of the land forces of Syria near the border with Turkey.
On this moment the most modern tanks of the Syrian army is modernized Russian tank T-72B, earlier, Russia delivered the first batch of tanks of this type. T-90 tanks are also armed with a limited Russian military contingent in Syria and conduct air cover and defense of Russian military facilities.
According to military experts, this type of tank is best suited for the defense of the stationary object in the desert. T-90 has improved compared to the T-72 protection of the tower, is modern, integrated with the main gun thermal imager, improved stabilizer weapons and an improved automatic loader.
Mounted on a tank fire control system is superior to the world analogues. It allows the T-90 to hit a moving target on the move from first shot in virtually all weather conditions. During state testing, the vehicle with an inexperienced crew released 24 missiles and they all hit the target at a distance of four to five kilometers. An experienced gunner for 54 seconds at a speed of 25 kilometers per hour struck seven shells real armoured targets at the distance of 1500-2500 meters. German Leopard 2 under similar conditions struck six goals, and the American Abrams — five.

Hawareen actually can't be defended properly, both sides leave it when the attack is serious. It's Mheen I don't get. You can basically mine that city/village to the brim and have zero issues with mechanized forces, you don't even need to fortify it. About 100 people with a firebase in Sadad, should do the trick. The issue I see with Mheen is that the SAA doesn't want to deploy there any sizeable force because it would be picked off overtime. And they're short on hands.

Not sure if I'm seeing this correctly, but if the info is confirmed, it seems they've crossed (cut off) the highway
