On Wednesday afternoon, 4 Saudi troops were killed after failing to escape a M1 Abrams battle tank that was hit by a guided anti-tank missile launched by Houthi insurgents in the southern countryside of Najran. A fifth Saudi soldier was also killed by skirmishes at the nearby Al-Shabakah military base the day before, Hesham Al-Kibsi told Al-Masdar news.

In both places, the line between adversary and ally is not easily drawn, which puts the United States at risk of unintentionally furthering the cause of some of its worst enemies. In the case of Yemen, this means al-Qaeda.

In their fight against Yemen’s Houthi rebels, the government of Abdu Rabbu Mansour Hadi, and its Saudi backers, have worked with local actors with suspected ties to al-Qaeda. Sometimes this means the targets being tracked by the US are actually cutting deals and getting their hands on weapons thanks to connections they have with the Hadi government and the Saudi-led coalition, to which the US provides support. Laying bare these thorny battlefield alliances in Yemen is crucial as the Trump administration considers stepping up US military involvement in the country.

If this is true the timing is pretty bad, giving the Saudis the 'woe is us' lament to Trump.

Sources of the Yemeni Resistance Movement, led by Houthi rebels and troops, loyal to the former Yemeni president Ali Abdullah Saleh, confirmed that they’ve struck the Saudi Arabian capital city of Riyadh with Burkan-2 surface-to-surface ballistic missile.

The missile was launched right before the visit of US President Donald Trump in the country. This would be Trump's first visit abroad since assuming office in January. He will also attend the American-Islamic summit. Media spokesman of the Yemeni Resistance Movement said the strike delivers a clear message to Riyadh that things will only escalate, should the Saudi-led coalition continue with aggression.

Saudi Arabia did not confirm or deny reports about Riyadh being struck with a missile, however, some sources claim Saudi Arabia immediately responded by carrying out two airstrikes on Attan mountain, located in the vicinity of the Yemeni capital city of Sanaa.

This is not the first time that Yemenis targeted Saudis with a ballistic missile. Previously in February, a similar strike was carried out at the Saudi military base, located west of Riyadh.

Burkan-2 is a long-range ballistic missile.

Yemenis fire ballistic missile at Riyadh ahead of Trump visit: Report
Yemen's Houthi Ansarullah fighters and their allies in the army have reportedly fired a long-range ballistic missile at the Saudi capital Riyadh, a few hours ahead of US President Donald Trump's visit to the Arab kingdom.
According to a report by Yemen's Arabic-language al-Masirah television network, the Yemeni forces, backed by allied fighters from Popular Committees, launched a Borkan-2 (Volcano-2) ballistic missile, a domestically modified rocket, aimed at the Saudi capital on Friday evening. The report also carried a statement by the Yemeni army, saying the missile strike conveyed "a clear and important message that we are all ready to respond to the aggression." The report, however, gave no further detail, including the exact impact location, the possible casualty toll and the extent of potential damage inflicted. Meanwhile, the Saudi military announced that it had intercepted and destroyed a projectile some 200 kilometers west of Riyadh, without giving more details.

YEMENI FORCES CLAIM SHOOTING DOWN SAUDI-LED COALITION’S F-15 WARPLANE (VIDEO)



Yemeni forces have allegedly shot down an F15 warplane belonging to the Saudi-led coalition. The warplane was taking part in the Saudi-led bombing campaign in Yemen.

The warplane was reportedly downed in in Najran by Yemeni fighters deployed in near Saada on Saturday.

The released video does not allow to say for sure that the warplane was donwed.

Yemeni naval forces have reportedly targeted a Saudi military vessel in a missile attack off the coast of Yemen’s southwestern province of Ta'izz. A military source, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Arabic-language al-Masirah television network that the warship was targeted with a sophisticated guided-missile in waters near the port city of Mukha, situated 346 kilometers south of the capital Sana'a. The source added that the vessel had been carrying out acts of aggression within the territorial waters of Yemen.
