I wonder if Houthis already established a stable and recognized government in their territory, say like pick a new president and attempt to get international recognition, to back their cause.

A major flaw i saw in Syrian rebellion and Libya was that there are no real recognized power (say Recognized by UN) and they failed to provide order and to make things worse there are also infighting within them. Thus any allies that might back Houthi would not be able to legally do boots on ground and directly aid them with necessary heavy equipment.

They have Iran, sure, they take down Saudis mercs and troops, sure. But in long term this will drain their manpower, especially gulf states are basically can burn money to buy any firepower they want Plus the "legal" Government of Yemen are the one with Mansour Hadi. Houthi clearly on the disadvantage in terms of diplomacy. Any Houthi Allies would also found themselves in disadvantages because of lack of stable working Government of Houthi. Gulf States, US and allies can simply use the same excuse as what Russia use in Syria. To back a legal, UN recognized government.

(1) Saudis have too much money to influence any official support of Yemeni rebels.

(2) Neither Gulf monarchies can have money but their economies are very much crude dependent. Politically (especially Saudis) are not really stable.

(3) Saudis are not Russia and if they could they would be officially there.

Saudi backed forces have made some progress but I doubt they'll take the center of Hodeidah anytime soon.

even if they take all cieites guerrilla wont stop as long as Iran is able to ship supplies.

Legitimacy of a government does not entirely depend on having a democratic majority  . The rights of a minority can not be set aside because they are the minority . If so , then Hitler was right to exterminate the jews and USA and Russia should have then brought a UN resolution to sanction the  resistance against Hitler  . In the same way , if Ansarallah  movement had popular support and was a political party and tried to compromise and form a national government  for Yemen . But this attempt  was unjustly rejected . Then they should not face any UN sanctions . The sanctions should be against majority government side . For oppressive practices against the minority .

I agree with gunshipdemocracy .  Counter revolution and anti-democratic forces need war to win . Or to temporarily stay in power . By putting people against each other . Diverting their effort . That is why the yanks and Saudi and UK and France and Zionists have stepped in . To prolong the sectarian war .  But true revolutionary forces need peace to win .

Imagine if ISIS had won a military victory in Syria . Would they or could they form a democratic government for Syria ? How many heads have they had to chop ? How many livers had they have to eat ? But if the Yemen revolutionary forces have peace . How quickly they will win the hearts and minds . How quickly they will form a democratic government ?

The main defeat or victory is political . Irrespective of the military situation on the ground . And in this the people of Yemen must act first . So all democratic forces must meet . Write a constitution . And call for peace and elections and eviction of occupiers . In this effort they can and should be helped . This is the main battle and victory .

Situation in Yemen shows US reluctance to end conflict — Russian foreign ministry

The Russian Foreign Ministry said that "so far, everything indicates that the US side is not planning to change its policy in Yemen"

MOSCOW, November 9. /TASS/. The escalation of the conflict in Yemen makes one question the sincerity of the United States’ statements on the necessity to finish the active phase of the conflict, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Friday.

"Notably, such a negative development is taking place against the backdrop of recent calls of the US administration on all parties to the Yemeni conflict to cease hostilities in a span of one month and begin peace talks with mediation by United Nations Secretary General’s Special Envoy for Yemen Martin Griffiths. Taking into account that Washington is offering direct military support to the coalition units fighting in Yemen, the sincerity of the United States’ statements in favor of the soonest end of the active phase of the Yemeni conflict is called to question," the ministry said.

"So far, everything indicates that the US side is not planning to change its policy in Yemen and the parties to the armed confrontation in that country are still staking on settling the conflict by force," the ministry stressed.

The ministry noted the increased intensity of hostilities around the Houthi-controlled port of Hodeida which is used to deliver food, medicines and other daily essentials to Yemen. "It is yet another attempt of the coalition to storm and seize the city, which will inevitably entail numerous casualties not only among the warring parties but also among civilians. We have repeatedly warned about catastrophic consequences of such an operation," the ministry said.

The ministry emphasized that there is no military solution to the Yemeni conflict. "We understand that the path to the long-awaited peace and stability in Yemen may take a llot of time and effort but we have no doubt that it must be done only through dialogue and talks. We are set to continue efforts to facilitate this process," the ministry added.

In early November, armed units loyal to Yemeni President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi launched a large-scale offensive in the northwestern Saada governorate, a key stronghold of the Ansar Allah Houthi movement. Concurrently, the Arab coalition intensified airstrikes on areas near the international airport of Yemen’s capital city Sanaa to destroy Houthi drone bases.

I can't see how the Houti can continue to hold Hodeida against the continuing onslaught from an infinite supply of forces configured to fight on that kind of landscape. Then its either game over or starvation for the population.

"Confrontation around Hodeidah has reached its peak", Russia’s Ambassador to Yemen Vladimir Dedushkin said

MOSCOW, November 18. /TASS/. The situation in Yemen remains tense and another flare-up around the port of Hodeidah cannot be ruled out, Russia’s Ambassador to Yemen Vladimir Dedushkin told TASS on Saturday.

According to him, the situation at major fronts - the Governorates of Hodeidah, Saada, Dhali, Al Bayda and Taiz - "remains rather tense."

"Confrontation around Hodeidah has reached its peak. Government forces supported by Arab coalition’s massive air strikes are striving to encircle the city", the diplomat said. "Fighting between them and Ansar Allah (Houthis) forces are occurring in southern and eastern suburbs. Residential areas come under shelling."

"In past two days, the intensity of fighting has dropped a little. However, no ceasefire agreement has been achieved. Therefore, another phase of escalation cannot be ruled out," Dedushkin said.

"In these conditions, the most serious concern is that fighting will spill over to the port which remains Yemen’s gateway for 90% of food, fuel and medicines," the ambassador said. "In case the Hodeidah-Sanaa motorway is blocked, the starving population in the country’s north (80% of the Yemenis) will be doomed to die," he concluded.

Since August 2014, Yemen has been devastated by a war between the country’s world-recognized authorities and the Houthi rebel units. However, the conflict entered an active phase when the Saudi-led coalition invaded the country at the request of President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi in March 2015.

This is most probably MANPAD. Before the launch we hear sound sygnal, that the missile lock the target. This is how Igla MANPAD do.

Well not for sure. If they modified it they probably used systems from an Igla as they couldn't use a mig-29 systems which are more complicted.

They alredy used r-27T from the ground so it is possible that this was a r-73.

Anyway this is a proof that drones can't replace manned fighters. In a conventional war they would be destroyed easily. Would be funny to see an awacs drone being operated in a conflict involving last f-15 and su-35. They would be totally useless. Man's brain is the best weapon and won't be replaced anytime soon.

Seems to be some kind of poetic justice when the Head of Intelligence dies due to an intelligence failure.

Generally bad news. The Houtis seem to have lost control of the port. To make it worse the UN now can't get at a month's supply of food for millions of people that is now rotting in storage there.
