Sure, with a Hermes Drone footage and striking both compounds from over 6000m. Do we even belive this? Funny how this strike was so fast and precise, that they never knew the bombs were coming. This isn't near Latakia, it's in Damascus, the only way the Syrians would have bombed them without no one noticing them coming is a cloaking device. The only way is that the Russians got from Latakia went very high very fast, got near the Strike area, descended to optimal alt and then rained fire. Off course this can be true for SyAF but I really doubt it. Humint coming from Syria and Elint from Russia is something far more plausible.

They both agreed to play the "SyAAF carried out the strike" story so Russia gets less blow back at home. Keeps both allies happy. That said, this strike most definitely caught the pro-moderate folks and state actors around the Gulf/Erdo territory by surprise.
The "moderate" Douma/Ghouta and Daraya pockets is a major problem for SAA and co. as both keep many brigade level forces away from the crucial fronts at Syria's borders (South, Latakia and Aleppo).

Total BS. Anyone with a functional brain could see that three detonations occurred at the same time at three building locations.
This is precision guided bombs launched at the same time and hitting their selected targets dead on. The Syrian air force does not
have such bombs and has not shown any hint of using such precision strikes.
Compared to modern Western air forces fighting against similarly armed enemies, like in Syria itself, Iraq and Afghanistan, the Syrian Air Force's main disadvantage is the low to nil number in precision guided weapons which allow the aircraft to stay out of range of small arms fire, AAA and MANPADS, while delivering an effective strike with minimal collateral damage. The same weakness prevents them from being able to hit multiple targets of opportunity in the same mission.

Syrian army kills 17 Islamic militants in country's south
BEIRUT (AP) — Syrian government forces booby trapped a cluster of farm buildings in the southern Daraa province and detonated the explosives as several Islamic rebel factions gathered at the venue, killing 17 militants, opposition activists said Sunday.
http://news.yahoo.com/top-rebels-death-syria-reshuffles-deck-ahead-talks-075719343.html
The explosion, which took place late Saturday, was the latest blow to the rebels shortly after the assassination Friday of a powerful rebel leader on the outskirts of Damascus. The developments could boost the position of the Damascus government ahead of Syria peace talks in Geneva next month.
The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported the explosion in the village of Kfar Shams. Ahmad al-Masalmeh, a Daraa-based opposition activist, said explosives were planted at the farm and detonated once the militants had gathered there.
"Once the fighters entered the farm, the explosives were detonated, killing 17," al-Masalmeh said.
Syria's state news agency reported that several fighters of the Islamic Muthana Movement were killed and two of their "dens were demolished at Kfar Shams."...............

Agreed. It looked like one of the massive IEDs the extremely moderate anti-Assad rebels like to use. Maybe the Syrian engineers made use of on-site IED raw materials, possibly giving it a little extra ooomph.

This whole YPG/SDF project is nothing more than a western backed illusion that give them legitimacy to occupy parts of Syria. Funny how ISIS fights to death against syrian and iraqi forces yet just looses and reatreats against SDF. Tishreen dam being the latest example.

Hezbollah is arguably the master of Daisy-Chains. There's a lot off footage from their IED emplacements vs IDF from 2000 and onwards.short_fuze wrote:OminousSpudd wrote:Helluva blast. Surprised they didn't spot any of it on the way in.

Even if you are right it still does not interfere with RU agenda because Syrian government controls best parts. Kurdish zone is mostly useless desert anyway and no, USA will not be moving into Kurdistan. This whole place has become cursed land.
Just ask Turks (and Saudis by extention) how scenario you described works for them. Nightmare comming true one way or another and it only gets worse no matter how you put it.

interesting,
China’s legislature passed the country’s first anti-terrorism law on Sunday, making it legal for the People’s Liberation Army to take part in counter-terrorism missions abroad
http://sputniknews.com/military/20151228/1032399825/china-army-anti-terror-operations.html
could this be a pretext to Chinese involvement in Syria????? especially against ISIS???? (wishful thinking i know) China could use the airbase in eastern Homs that was ear marked for Russia or even the large kuweires airbase (once proper buffer zone is in place) this is a pretty big airbase and would be ideal for targeting ISIS held territory, even if China was to only target ISIS this would relieve a lot of pressure from Syrian and Russian airforces so they could focus more on FSA etc. areas. Kuweires airbase could house (not fully certain how much aircraft could be kept here) 24x Nanchang Q-5 and
12x Chengdu J-10, and 12 x CAIC Z-10 attack heli's, and you would a pretty decent force, the Q-5's are going to be replaced so might as well get the last flying hours out of them and after the conflict they could just be left in Syria and either past on to Syrian airforce or scrapped, there still pretty decent at what they do, the Z-10's can be used for base defence and as ground support for when the SAA finally attack Deir Haifir.
any thoughts on above?
there was a rumour that Iran was going to use the airbase in eastern Homs any news on this or was it a pure rumour?

Turkey PM says would not look positively on 'hostile forces' west of Euphrates
http://news.yahoo.com/turkey-pm-says-not-look-positively-hostile-forces-145521500.html
BELGRADE (Reuters) - Turkey would not look positively on Syrian forces hostile to Ankara moving to the west of the Euphrates, Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said on Monday, after a U.S.-backed alliance of Kurds and Arab rebels took a dam on the river from Islamic State.
Turkey has long opposed advances by Syrian Kurdish forces for fear this will lead to the creation of a Kurdish state on its border which in turn might encourage its own Kurdish minority.
Speaking at a news conference in the Serbian capital where he was on an official visit, Davutoglu said the government's current information showed that the groups that crossed the Euphrates over the weekend were Arabs, not Kurdish, forces.

And he made these comments in Serbia of all places, like Serbs would be quick to forget that Turkey supported Albania, Kosovo, and Bosnia against Serbia! Or Turkish support for Grey Wolf fascist death squads and their persecution of Orthodox/Coptic Christians in the Middle East! Turkey's saber-rattling is a basically compared to a rude spoiled elementary school child, hiding behind Momma NATO's pink dress lol!

^^' There is no need to worry. Erdo has his hands tied in this conflict basically. All proxy options are exhausted and military intervention is not a possibility either. The US doesn't care, EU does not care either and prefers to do business with Russia.

Re: Syrian Civil War: News #5
Mahen and Brigade 82 are in the bag, Sheikh Maskin comming up...
Syrian army, backed by air strikes, advances toward southern town
http://news.yahoo.com/syrian-army-backed-air-strikes-advances-toward-southern-124924895.html
BEIRUT (Reuters) - Syrian troops backed by heavy aerial bombardment pushed toward a strategic town in southern province of Deraa on Tuesday after capturing nearby military base, the army said.
The Syrian army said it retook Brigade 82, one of the largest bases north of the mainly rebel-held town of Sheikh Maskin, whose capture by rebels earlier this year threatened the army's supply routes to the south.
The army offensive toward Sheikh Maskin is part of the first major assault in southern Syria since Russia launched air strikes on Sept. 30 to support its ally President Bashar al-Assad.
The army also said in a news flash on state television it had recaptured the Al Hesh hills, northwest of Sheikh Maskin. The hilltop, which was held by the rebels for about a year, overlooks much of rebel-held western Deraa.
The aerial bombardment supporting Tuesday's ground offensive appeared to be carried out by Russian jets, a monitoring group said.
Russia has until recently focused its bombing on insurgent targets in northwestern Syria and coastal areas to help the Syrian army claw back territory it lost earlier this year.
Sheikh Maskin, which is the main goal of the army's southern campaign, lies on one of the main supply routes from the capital Damascus to the city of Deraa, close to the border with Jordan.
The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which tracks violence across Syria, said 17 raids, believed to have been made by Russian planes, hit rebel-held areas in the town.
Activists say Russian air strikes, in which missiles and bombs are launched from high altitude, are distinct from Syrian air force strikes which rely more on untreated barrel bombs dropped from helicopters flying at lesser height.
Russian strikes tend to be more concentrated and precise, using several aircraft rather than the one frequently deployed by Syria's military. Residents say their munitions also leave deeper craters.
The recapture of Sheikh Maskin, located at the heart of Deraa province, would consolidate the army's hold over the heavily fortified region which has formed a southern line of defense protecting Damascus.
A rebel in Falujat Hauran brigade said rebel groups, including al Qaeda's Syrian branch the Nusra Front, were engaged in heavy fighting to prevent the town's fall.
Rebels still control large parts of the region, that also borders Israel, but have been largely on the defensive since their failed offensive in June to take government-controlled part of Deraa city.
The south is the last major stronghold of the mainstream, anti-Assad opposition, who have been weakened elsewhere by the expansion of the ultra-hardline Islamic State group in the east and north, and gains by the Nusra Front in the northwest.
Non-Nusra rebels in the south receive what they describe as small amounts of military and financial support from Western and Arab states. It has been channeled via Jordan, a U.S. ally that is determined to protect its Syrian frontier from jihadists.
North of Damascus, the army said on Tuesday it regained control of the town of Maheen, captured by Islamic State last month, which is about 20 km (10 miles) from the highway running north from Damascus to the cities of Homs, Hama and Aleppo
