is not some BS, like routinely yapped about in Canada, etc., about "unfilled jobs". This is actual job positions opening thanks to
massive import substitution and increasing domestic demand.

Re: Russian Civil Shipbuilding Sector
Admiralty shipyards handed over the NES LSP "North Pole" for operation
"Admiralty Shipyards" (part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation) put into operation a research expedition vessel ice-resistant self-propelled platform "North Pole".
The ship, moored from the outfitting embankment of the enterprise, went to the Big Port of St. Petersburg. Here, the ice-resistant self-propelled platform will be prepared for the transition to Murmansk and then to the first research expedition.
According to Alexey Rakhmanov, General Director of USC, “LSP North Pole is a clear example of the fulfillment by corporation enterprises of a complex order entrusted by the state: “Vympel Design Bureau and Admiralty Shipyards, which are part of USC, have developed and created a unique, unparalleled in the world high tech ship. The shipbuilders of the USC justified the trust placed in us by their work. A bold idea has been successfully embodied in metal and will soon benefit both Russia and world science.”
Ruslan Sheremetiev, the chief builder of the ships of the Admiralty Shipyards, noted that the company has always built both head and prototypes: “The main purpose of the platform, the height of which from the keel to the top of the middle mast is 42.5 meters, which is equal to a 13-storey building , - "live" in the ice. And I am convinced that this life will be successful and fruitful for Russian science, and the data obtained during expeditions to the Arctic will make a significant contribution to the further study and development of the region.”
Director of the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute Alexander Makarov thanked the staff of the Admiralty Shipyards. “There are no analogues to this vessel in the world, not every shipyard is ready to implement such a project,” Makarov noted. “Now researchers don't have to waste time and energy on ensuring the safety of their life, as it used to be in ice camps. Now they can focus solely on science. We have the opportunity to plan long-term research, a prospect opens up for young people who want to connect their lives with polar science. For the next 10 years, this will be the most important scientific project in the Arctic, not only in Russia, but also in the world,” he said.
The enterprise built the NES LSP "North Pole" by order of the Federal Service for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring as part of the implementation of the state program for the socio-economic development of the Arctic zone. The contract between Admiralty Shipyards and Roshydromet for the construction of LSP was signed in April 2018. The vessel was laid down on April 10, 2019.
LSP "North Pole" has the functionality of a research center and is intended for year-round expeditions in the high latitudes of the Arctic Ocean. The vessel is designed to conduct geological, acoustic, geophysical and oceanographic research; capable of passing through the ice without the involvement of an icebreaker, as well as taking on board heavy helicopters of the MI-8 AMT (Mi-17) type. LSP will provide comfortable and safe working and living conditions for the crew and scientific personnel at the polar station at temperatures down to -50 o and 85% humidity.
The main performance characteristics of the LSP: length - 83.1 m; width - 22.5 m; displacement - about 10390 tons; power plant - 4200 kW; speed - at least 10 knots; hull strength - Arc8; autonomy in terms of fuel reserves - about 2 years; service life - not less than 25 years; crew - 14 people; scientific staff - 34 people. The ice-resistant self-propelled platform "North Pole" is being built to the class of the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping: KM(*) Arc5[1] AUT1-C HELIDECK-F Special purpose ship.

quality is a continuous process you know... as long as you don't hear about new fires on 20385 anymore, this means everything is going in the right direction.

Accidents happen... show me someone who never fails and I will show you someone who never does anything.
Western education hates failure so much that many probably give up trying for fear of failure, yet failure is even more important than success... everyone has to learn to deal with failure, because you will get a lot of failure before you ever find success.

Re: Russian Civil Shipbuilding Sector
The "North Pole" is on its way to the Arctic
The installation that is to be able to drift autonomously for up to two years in thick Arctic sea-ice is on its way to Murmansk as part of its first voyage to the North.
The unique 83 meter long vessel that for the past two years has been under construction at the Admiralty Yard on the 2nd of September set out from St.Peterburg. It is the first voyage for the ship that by its constructors is described as a ‘platform.’
The Severny Polyus has the shape of a bathtub and will soon become a key tool in Russian Arctic research.
It is due to arrive in Murmansk on the 15th of September. Shortly afterwards, the platform will embark on a voyage to the New Siberian Islands, Minister of Natural Resources Aleksandr Kozlov informs.
“Already in the near future we will have reliable and full information about the North Role of our planet!” The minister says.
The Severny Polyus is capable of undertaking geological, acoustic, geophysical and marine research under the harshest of Arctic conditions. Even in temperatures down to minus 50°C it is believed to be able to provide comfortable living and working conditions for researchers and crew.
On board are 15 labs where researchers can work year-round.
During this year’s expedition, the vessel is to test its key equipment.
The first real expedition will start in 2023 when the Severny Polyus will sail into Arctic waters for a two-year expedition. The ship is designed to be able to drift uninterruptedly with the Arctic currents for two years.
“The ice platform is our country’s contribution to the development of the Arctic,” Minister Kozlov said in a comment early 2022.
When Russia took over the presidency of the Arctic Council in 2021 its Council representatives highlighted the Severny Polyus as one its major contributions and underlined that international researchers would be invited to the maiden tour.
The Severny Polyus platform will replace Russia’s Arctic expeditions based on ice floes organised since the 1930s. The quickly vanishing Arctic sea-ice has made it increasingly hard to organise the expeditions and last real ice station, the “North Pole-40”, was held in the winter of 2012.

Re: Russian Civil Shipbuilding Sector
Development of shipping along the Northern Sea Route was discussed at the EEF
Moscow, September 6 - IA Neftegaz.RU. The first meeting of the Council of Participants in Navigation along the Northern Sea Route ( NSR ) took place on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum.
S. Frank, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sovcomflot, acted as moderator.
As noted, the effective development of shipping on it at the present stage requires constant coordination between shippers, shipping companies and the state.
In order to combine efforts to ensure safety, commercial attractiveness and sustainable navigation, a council of participants in navigation along the NSR was created.
At the meeting, 3 main tasks of the council were noted:
the development of the icebreaking fleet and the creation of comfortable conditions from the department of icebreaking support for decades to come;
solution of issues related to the organization of maritime traffic;
development of shipbuilding.
In addition, there were discussions
the issue of increasing traffic along the Northern Sea Route;
measures to improve the quality of the forecast of ice conditions in the water area of the route;
development of hydrometeorological infrastructure.
Earlier, an integrated plan for the development of the Northern Sea Route until 2035 was sent to the Russian government for consideration, which included both the development of infrastructure and the construction of new icebreakers, the launch of space satellites, the improvement of security systems and the renewal of meteorological technologies.
The total investment in this project will amount to 2 trillion rubles. Rosatom will play
a huge role in managing this process . Director General of the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom A. Likhachev for the first time presented the project of the Great Northern Sea Route: a new global route. Theses of A. Likhachev:
The Great Northern Sea Route is understood by us as follows. Territorially, this is a transport sea corridor that unites the territorial waters, the exclusive economic zone of the Russian Federation from the sea border with Norway in the Barents Sea to the sea border with the Democratic Republic of Korea in the east. This water area includes the NSR as a separate federal project.
At the same time, the tasks set by the president under the NSR remain unchanged, which imply that by 2024 the volume of traffic along this route will reach 80 million tons. However, at least 2 new ones will be added to this task:
internal cabotage
and transit, primarily container, transportation.
All this implies a more powerful infrastructural arrangement along the entire length of the Great NSR. We are talking about creating hubs and transshipment ports.
Without a doubt, this topic will expand the business agenda of the Far East, create appropriate capacities and strengthen the infrastructure of maritime transportation. We will pay special attention to environmental safety, the development of the Arctic cargo fleet, infrastructure, and an ecosystem of digital services in a one-stop shop for cargo carriers.
Preliminary estimates indicate that we can double the traffic along the NSR in the horizon until 2030, and after 2034 - reach the amount of cargo traffic along the large NSR up to 250 million tons.
The plans should be included in the road map of the Greater NSR.
A. Likhachev suggested that the members of the Public Council take up its development.
The document is expected to be presented at the Arctic Forum, which will be held in April 2023 in St. Petersburg.
E. Ambrosov, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of NOVATEK, said that the company he represents is one of the active participants in the NSR.
In 2017, the Yamal LNG project was launched, and the Arctic LNG-2 project will be launched in the near future , which, of course, will have the most positive impact on the NSR.
Moreover, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation V. Evtukhov said that the Ministry of Industry and Trade expects that the first 2 Arctic gas carriers for the Arctic LNG-2 project will be ready for commissioning in the near future.
Theses of V. Evtukhov:
Those vessels that are necessary for use and use in the Arctic are, first of all, Arctic gas carriers.
Their construction has begun and we expect the first two to be handed over in the near future together with colleagues from Zvezda.

Those specialists are highly mobile.
The working space is mostly in English, and they are using the very same and limited designing software specialized for shipbuilding.
So they can get a job everywhere, like Japan or South Korea or China.
I wish them good luck to hire folks who can get 4-5 times that without even sweating themselves

Re: Russian Civil Shipbuilding Sector
I remember the times, when people relocated with the whole families across the whole country, only to get an apartment there.
My wife's family migrated internally, as the new power plant was built and they have granted flats to the employees.
Salary was a secondary matter only if you can get something evaluated for lets say $100k after 5 years for a margin of that, it is another story already.
