after all the hard work in closing the castillo road, and now this the SAA really need to grow some balls and really defend this front if the SAA can achieve this i think the terrorists will be done for a while. If the terrorists fail this offensive there number will be heavily reduce and will no doubt struggle to launch large scale offensives again or they will have to give up on one front in order to bolster another. ATGW and heli's is what is needed, some TOS as well, both air forces and artillery need to intercept them before they get to the front, and TOS, heli's and ATGW to be used on the front line and the streets need to be covered with machine guns and snipers. The SAA should have really reinforced these fronts with anti personal and anti tank mines, and anti aircraft guns used in ground support, back this up with mortars and the defensive lines becomes very hard to defeat, VBIED wouldnt stand a chance. lets wait and see what happens but seriously the SAA cant fuck up anymore now is the time to dig there heels in and grow some balls.
If Aleppo is liberated the terrorists are pretty much finished.
Nothing clear in the fog of war, but if the SAA (with support from Hezbollah, Iran, Iraqi militias, and Russian air support) are incompetent enough to let the rebels break the siege or to let ISIS cut their supply lines, I'd almost say they deserve it.
From the battle footage at this area, the SAA appear to have held the 1070 apartments, but the southern line of the 1070, kind of by the fortification marked "barrier", got hit by a large VBIED. This forced the SAA to withdraw north.
So, the rebels currently hold the 1070, the SAA hold the built up urban area to the north, and the Artillery base/Academy to the east, with the front lines as such:
There hasn't been any new news for several hours, so the attack could have lost momentum given how small this area is. If the Russian aircrews keep the pressure up, this offensive could easily turn into a disaster. It just seems so hasty and high risk given the open terrain and the SAA's urban possitions, with the possibility of the rebel convoys taking losses en route. I wonder if when they got to the Aleppo front, they were under powered but were forced to advance anyways.

And again , and again and again and again .. for 5 years , the same tactics used again and again and again over and over and over ,and with the same effective results. The Syrian Army is NOT properly to deal with Suicide Bombers in trucks full of TNT.. You need heavy Armored BMP's or T-72s ,heavy caliber fire from 45mm with automatic computer targeting and night vision , to deal with the very fast suicide bombers armed full of TNT. And Russia is not properly arming the SAA. In fact Russia soldiers have been killed using this very same lame tactics. again and again and again. Until RasPutin the genius NOT , give a hundreds of T-72s to the Syrian army , armed with modern electronics and aiming , the SAA will still be pushed back with ease by heavy and fast trucks armed with SUicide bombers. as i said a million of times Kornets missiles are TOO Fucking SLow to deal with very fast advancing terrorist in pickups ,just using heavy machine guns and Suicide bombers. Then the Russian very small and tiny Airforce deployed in Syria is obsolete to deal with such fast massive attacks when so many terrorist dispersed through a large zone. Only attack Hellicopters direct fire in meaningful numbers can do the job but Russia only deployed very few there in Syria.
So Russia will need to do 2 things. they either provide T-72 tanks to Syrian army with upgraded modern electronics for fast/quick targeting at terrorist.. or Russia goes and deploy a larger airforce in Syria with way more attack helicopters. The terrorist communications are not even interrupted at all , they can coordinates their attacks day and night ,shows the total FAilure of Russia counter electronics.. IF Putin had any brains he will shut down the communications between terrorit in aleppo and NATO.. so they cannot get satellite information about Syrian army locations. Simply what Russia is doing at the tactical level is not working. Terrorist shouldnt be able to so easily over run any position ,by just having a truck and a suicide bomber.
When FSA in 2013 captured Aleppo ,they did it with a mass scale invasion of thousands terrorist rushing to the city. TO deal with such mass waves attacks tactics , Russia needs to provide with high precision ,all weather ,high caliber computer guided direct fire ,because airforce is not really ideal to deal with very fast massive moving targets ,when they need to fly too high to avoid manpads.
Look at the kind of weapons Americans use in Afganistan to defend against taliban.. very fast ,gatlin gun fire. it can also stop rocket artillery and mortars.
Russia also could equip the SAA with Naval like gatlin gun fire to deal with very fast mobile terrorist suicide bomber targets. But using Ak-47 that Syrian army have ,or the traditional soviet weapons and Kornets are obsolete to deal with very fast waves of suicide bombers. . is too slow and can miss. and any regular artillery attacks ,will only help cover in dust the movements of suicide bombers. Russia needs to look at how NATO deals with artillery attacks of terrorist or fast moving suicide bombers. Because until now ,after 5 years of war , the same old tactics of suicide bombing in armored fast trucks continues giving a lot of headaches to the Syrian army.
In fact even CHina will do better in Syria. They have Microwave guns ,that will fry any suicide bomber without firing a bullet and before it gets any close to their site.
again What Russia is doing to counter VBIED is not good enough. The success rate of very fast mobile terrorist suicide bombers in reinforced trucks is pretty Big and Russia needs rapid fire attacks with computer aided targeting. Because its airforce cannot fly low for fear of manpads and using lazer guided air to ground missiles to defeat a $3,000 truck is not practical. Direct fire precision cannons ,either T-72 tanks or heavy caliber gatling guns is the way to go. against suicide bombers. Regular artillery does not work well against mass waves of suicide bombers. Also Digging big trenches is very simple and effective to stop tanks or suicide vehicles..
Let me guess, when the RusAF or SAA decides to level positions occupied by Al-Nusrats they suddenly become Civilians and cry to the UN because Russia/SAA is bombing innocent unarmed civilians RIGHT??!?
@Vann, what do you think is holding Russia back to update their fighting ability against these Terrorists? Im pretty sure the Rus Army has enough strategists to think about the points you mentioned above. So what is the cause of the delay in updating their tactics??

Because Russia have a government that are masters in underestimating their enemies. and love to wait to the last minute for things to be very bad to do anything.
Something as simple as 50 to 100 T-72 tanks armed with modern automatic targeting could easily stop a mass wave of hundred of suicide bombers in pickups.
as soon a terrorist truck with TNT shows 5km away.. bang.. 3-4 second later the truck blow up in a million of pieces using cheap ammo. they will see their speed attacks no longer works if the Syrian army shows very rapid precision fire capabilities to stop them.
The most ideal weapon will be lazer guns, than in just 1 second will blind the driver and in 2 seconds turn into a ball of fire any truck . But a t-72 with modern targeting will be good enough.
In more news.. Apparently one wave of suicide attacks was repelled of 2 Suicide Bombers trucks.. in aleppo. but no idea if this news is hours old and not related to the supposed latest gains of terrorist.

Terrorists are making claims to every advancement but nothing concrete so in other words, probably a lot of bullshit from them.
Probably some of those advances were real , but also a trap. They simply retreat from a zone allowing terrorist to enter and later trap them inside the zone they just enter. So they cannot escape or retreat.. this tactic was used a lot in DOnetsk Cauldrons , that they let the enemy take some territory ,to later encircle them. it also was used to completely close aleppo and castillo road. But it cannot always be done ,specially near Borders with other nations or in difficult to defend positions.
