Iran’s new Quds Force commander makes secret visit to Iraq amid tensions with US
BEIRUT, LEBANON (7:40 P.M.) – The Associated Press revealed details about a secret visit to Baghdad by the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ (IRGC) elite Quds Force, Ismail Ghaani, earlier this week.
Citing four Iraqi officials, the publication said that he had arrived in Baghdad late Monday, marking his first visit to Iraq since the assassination of Major-General Qassem Soleimani, the late commander of the Quds Force.
The officials confirmed that the commander of the Quds Force left the airport, after entering Iraq, amid tight security, with a three-car convoy.
The officials pointed out that the secret visit came in an attempt to unite Iraqi political leaders, at a time when several political groups are at odds.
One of the officials told the AP that Ghaani confirmed at the meetings he held in Baghdad that Iran does not want Al-Zarfi to assume the premiership of the Iraqi government.
The agency pointed out that many officials saw Ghaani’s visit as a test of his ability to establish consensus between the various political blocs in Iraq, but his lack of proficiency in the Arabic language and the absence of personal relationships between him and the main figures in Iraq raises doubts in this regard.
Ghaani’s visit comes at a time when tensions between the U.S. and Iran are at their highest point in recent memory.

As many as 24 ballistic missiles of different types fired at Iraq, Syria, IRGC says
Four missiles were fired from Iran's Khuzestan province at terrorist positions in Syria's Idlib Governorate, while another 11 missiles were fired from Iran's west and northwest at Israeli "spy centers" in the city of Erbil
DUBAI, January 16. /TASS/. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC, part of the Iranian Armed Forces) has struck targets in Iraqi Kurdistan and Syria with 24 ballistic missiles of different types, the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reported citing the agency's press service.
According to the statement, 24 ballistic missiles of different types all hit their targets during the operation. Four missiles were fired from Iran's Khuzestan province at terrorist positions in Syria's Idlib Governorate, while another 11 missiles were fired from Iran's west and northwest at Israeli "spy centers" in the city of Erbil, the administrative center of the Kurdistan Region. Nine other missiles struck the locations of terrorist groups in different parts of Syria.
Earlier, Amir Ali Hajizadeh, commander of the Aerospace Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, told the Tasnim news agency that the distance from the missile launch site in Iran's Khuzestan to the Syrian province of Idlib is 1,200 kilometers, making it the farthest missile strike ever carried out from Iranian territory.
On the night of January 16, the IRGC attacked several sites in Erbil, the administrative center of Iraqi Kurdistan, with ballistic missiles. According to a statement by elite units of the Iranian Armed Forces, the bombing targeted several terrorist sites in Erbil in response to recent attacks inside Iran. It is also stated that the attack destroyed "the main headquarters of Israel’s spying agency Mossad in Iraq’s Kurdistan region by firing ballistic missile."

Iran says it has weapons far superior to nuclear
Iran possesses covert weapons far superior to nuclear, Ebrahim Rostami, the former head of the International Relations and former secretary of the Development and Equipment Commission of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC), declared.
“We have equipment far superior to nuclear weapons,” he said, while supporting a recent demand by Iranian members of parliament to change the country’s ‘no nuclear weapons’ doctrine.
Rostami clarified that details of such weapons is highly classified and top-secret information.
“I won’t say who carried them out, but five tankers exploded in the highly secure Port of Fujairah. They don’t even know where the hit came from,” he stated, referring to the incidents where oil tankers were targeted in the Port of Fujairah, the UAE.
Earlier Iran officials claimed, Iran has ‘no red lines’ (https://t.me/geopolitics_live/34920) for defending its interests, seeks peace but is ready for war.
