Until mid 2014 Div 17 was held by besieged SAA soldiers. Many beheaded when ISIS overran it. Graphic pics in thread.
Division 17 SAA who held out for 400 days only to be caught yesterday & beheaded (graphic)

I did not think he would do that so soon, Of course, it seems like these are just small skirmishes nothing serious.

If correct it will be interesting as to how the SDF/US will react to an attack on their flank. Pull forces back?
Applying logic, I can't see for its part how the US can react any differently to how to has it has around al-Tanf, these are Syrian forces attacking US allies attacking ISIS. Any other reaction will expose the different objective actually in place in south Syria.
Excellent move by Syria/Russia.
Thanks, any new SAA/SDF interface line will be interesting. This one in particular with the SyAF probably wanting to get its Tabqa airbase back.SeigSoloyvov wrote:JohninMK wrote:SeigSoloyvov wrote:Well well color me surprised...SAA has attacked kurds near the Shatnah area word is they want to capture the Tabqa military base, Assad is making a ballsy move here or he is under Russian orders.

I mostly think these are just small skirmishes that have no meaning.
It's possible since the SAA and kurd lines connected there was a brief firefight due to positioning mishaps.
This kind of thing does happen on occasion on the battlefield.
That said SAA was firing heavy howitzers at those Kurdish areas which well is a lot harder to pass off has a "mistake".
I don't think it's anything serious yet if they keep attacking then well... the problem for me.
That said SAa would have to be foolish to open a front against the kurds when their flank is exposed to ISIS yet, hence why i mostly think it's just a brief lines meeting deals.

If its less than 1000, then there's no reason that the SAA cant destroy them swiftly with VKS bombardment. The "B-but the roads are mined" argument is completely worthless since the SAA can bypass said roads with an armored push. ISIS can advance 100s of km without roads with fucking pickups then there's no reason why SAA tracked armor has such a hard time bypassing Arak.
Say what you will, but Arak is a 100 times more important than East Allepo or Suweida in this moment. I'm happy that the SAA managed cross into Raqqah though. I'm not sure how this will help Deir Ez Zor.
