I hadn't seen your post when I posted my second map. Sorry to overlap.

My comment re the PMU was the possibility of them helping on the southern arrow direction, not that they helped the SAA get to the border. Now they have linked up and given the Syrian/Iraqi Government's OK over working together in Syria, there is a huge opportunity for the PMU to dramatically boost manpower for the strike to Deir.

Also I read this morning of a senior Iranian officer commenting (following the Saudi moves in the Gulf) that we were about to see a huge anti ISIS action.
EDIT: I meant to say a reaction to the bombing in Tehran.

It's fair to let them clean up after themselves.

Hopefully this latest development will finally throw cold water on the whole Southern Jihad Funland project.

Maybe now USA will hop back across the border into Jordan and SAA can finally focus on DeZ.

Mind you the rate of progress of this strike to the border was pretty good. Now if it was possible to go east using the same methods!!!

EDIT: it seems like it was just a convoy of around 10 technicals that made the trip and there is a claim that Russia told the US in advance.

Not sure but perhaps the latest US attack on SAA was an attempt to head this off.

IRAQ is the key , is the major card Syria can have for defeating ISIS. Russia and IRAN
needs to help in both sides of the border between Syria with IRAQ .Because combined
those forces can effectively block ISIS from escaping.  And if the US coalition bomb Iraq army
it risk losing its military bases in IRAQ and being kicked from there. not mentioning being bombed too directly on their military bases. And the american people will not support ever
a new war against IRAQ , in no way, to remove the government. So IRAQ is the key for helping Syria retake most of its territory. When it comes to kurds , they are not religious extremist ,
so i think Assad needs to negotiate with them for territory as long they do not allow NATO
to deploy military bases on any part of it. and allow Syria to have control of its borders. So kurds should get a strong autonomy ,where they control everything in the region they live but
Syria will need to monitor its borders. To see what enters in the country or not.

If 5,000 to 10,000 of strong IRAQ army enters in Syria organized and dispersed ,just in case
they bombed by "Accident" by NATO , then they will serve as a shield to NATO airforce .because they cannot say they don't trust in IRAQ army . it will be ridiculous ,since they cooperate with them in its main land. So the Syrian army needs a shield of another nation army in the Syrian desert. From a NATION that NATO needs to have as allies. So IRAQ is one.
another could be a NATO army. lets say Greece . So it will be very hard for the Pentagon to justify the bombing of greek soldiers etc. Italy , Spain , etc. it could be a few thousands soldiers from the Egyptian army. Ideally it will be former American soldiers ,veterans from the war on IRAQ , fighting on the side of the Syrian army with the American flag.. That will be HUGE STORY and TRump will be unable to justify bombing American/British veterans volunteers fighting in the Side of Syria closing the border of IRAQ.

In the south of Syria , Russia could use a couple of thousand of volunteers from India military.
Combined with a dozen volunteers from American and British and French veterans. from IRAQ war. just a few dozens will be enough. This will be good enough for world media to draw attention . and divide Israel society about their government support of ISIS.
To block Israel from bombing Syria army. India buys a lot of Israel military hardware , so they will be shooting on their own feet if bomb Indian army ,will be the end of India buying Israel
    military technology.

So this war can be won way more easily ,using Geo Politics 101.
Public Opinion is what could end the war in Syria. World attention , needs to be every week draw unto the Syrian conflict and the illegal actions of NATO there and its support for terrorism.  and using Shields.  ISIS use civilian as shields to hold cities.  NATO use Kurds as shields to protect from attack. Russia and Syria needs shields too.
Similar to what Turkey did in Qatar ,sends its soldiers to block Americans or Saudis from starting a war against Qatar. Because Turkey knows , Americans needs them ,and can't allow losing Turkey relation. This is what Pentagon is doing in Northern Syria ,using Kurds as a shield to protect their backed FSA terrorist to take RAqqa.  Russia needs to play this games too.  They are extremely effective tactics.

But again the problem with Syria conflict is that the Evil people are united and organized in the world  , and the good people who wants to end evil do nothing. look to the sides and say ..ohh
i have my own problems, i can't help , is not my problem.

    Syrian War: News #13 - Page 20 Edmundburke377528

China,India ,totally absent from the Syrian conflict. not even Humanitarian aid they send. what kind of justification for not helping more Russia? India or China could help with helping Russia protect their warships, or help Russia with the cost of the war. India and China could help also with drones if it doesn't want to participate in combat. The Entire world could help RUssia to finish the war.Something as simple as human shields , creating camps of activist in in Syria military bases ,lets say Americans from a peace organization can put a major pressure on United States to end their illegal war.

What Russia more needs is to Draw world attention into the wrong doing of US and its coalition
in Syria.  In American Baseball stadiums deploying giant banners demanding Pentagon end of the illegal war against Syria , public activism needs to happen in such a way , that not major sport event , no major important entertainment event , or hollyday activity happens with
drawing Public attention of the illegal and criminal war that NATO have in syria. all those things can create a major movement to stop the support of terrorism by NATO. Public pressure works. but it needs to happen first. Because doing nothing ,doesn't works. World problems will continue if people just ignore them. terrorism could be stop tomorrow if there wasn't massive protest world wide to end NATO for its role with ISIS. etc. Geopolitics 101 , using massive public pressure ,combined with Shields and peaceful activism to embarrass the US military and its allies of what they doing in Syria, is what will end the war. This will provoke major defections in the US military ,specially on its pilots in the airforce to stop cooperating in this illegal and criminal aggression to a another nation with their support of Terrorism.

SAA may thank the Russian spearhead force that lead the rapid assault, Russian used boots on the ground for this.

It would seem Putin was tired of the SAA's incompetence in this area.

Indeed this is far from the end.. They will now fight to break the containment for sure from North of Syria. What is also evident is that Syria is now extremely over extended and do not have
an army big enough to recover all Syria and hold positions. If NATO sends a major jihadist force
of 10,000 backed by a small airforce it will over run all the gains of Syrian army in the desert.

So this is far from over.. The Syrian army will need a quick with IRAQ army and
get reinforcement from IRAQ army in Syria , both combined can do a huge difference.
to finish to clear the SYrian desert.

    Vann

No they have all the manpower they need.

The SAA including all combat formations has around 130k men. They should be getting 20k more-ish in the next few months.

They are now force conscripting their youth. Lowest I have seen is 16 years of age.

Hez alone has about 40k men in Syria.

Various other allied groups etc adds another 20k or so thousand.

The problem is in most cases most of the SAA is useless in a fight.

In many cases Hez is better than most of the SAA.

Assad has enough manpower the problem is he isn't using it correctly, in many Cases Iran get's in the way.

    Par-far.

This would be foolish yes they need to liberate Deir right away (whoever takes Deir wins), however they have to clean out Eastern homs area first they need to close those lines and shorten then lines against ISIS. The areas around Eastern Hama and where the Tiger forces are operating must be closed and captured. Otherwise, the Deir offensive would be failed due to constant flanking. In war the most important part of the battle is not the fighting it's self but the preparation put into it.

You remember a while ago I said? ISIS is fighting so hard near Maskan because if they win that area they will cave in on ISIS once Eastern homs falls, and the other area (Look at the map Calm posted while it's not super accurate it does give you a rough idea).

That space will free up around 30k SAA troops (maybe more) once those areas are liberated then they can go for Deir. The problem is Assad is not focusing the main points of his manpower on these areas. Provided ISIS does not Seize Deir, the kurds cannot take it themselves so even if the kurds beat Assad there nothing they can do. The problem is if Raqqa falls before Assad gets to Deir well ISIS will have all the manpower they need to seize it.

Edit: The quality of the SAA also gets in the way in many occasions a couple of hundred Russians leading some Militants managed to reach the border in less than four hours. This is why unless it's the Desert Hawks of tiger forces it takes ages for the SAA to do a dam thing
