Even with radiation leaking, at such depths the currents will take it farther away from N. America before that cold & heavier irradiated water dilutes & surfaces, if ever!

Poseidon will use water from its surrounding to cool the reactor, like big subs do.

If Poseidon is travelling at 185km/h it must be using cavitation. Thus I imagine that reactor cooling sea water is probably being turned into high pressure steam and used to create the sheath.

Space doesn't cool the reactor down... sea water does and there is an enormous amount of sea water in any ocean... besides... if the reactor works by heating water and generating steam why do you think they would want to cool it?

Isolate it in a ceramic section and you can let it get as hot as it wants... there will be no one on board the thing.

5.45mm rifle rounds come with a version that supercavitates through the water... it has no power source and no gas generator or rocket motor of any kind...

I haven`t seen any source listing Poseidon speed as 100 knots. Water drag increases much faster than actual speed. Speed of 100 knots doesn`t seem true, as such speed is even not needed! I would bet on speed of 30+, or say not more than 50 knots at best. The accent is on range and stealth. Poseidon should be capable to dive at 500+ metres so as to avoid every known AS weapon. But, we are still talking about device which characteristics are not disclosed in any way, except propaganda data! Wait and see.

Supercavitating torpedoes can easily travel faster than 100 knots. For example the VA-111 Shkval uses rocket exhaust to create the cavity, and can reach at least 200 knots. As for the reason why you'd want such a velocity comes down to outrunning enemy counter torpedoes. Unless the interdicting sub is exceptionally close, they cannot launch and intercept.

With an onboard reactor the Poseidon might theoretically have sufficient power to maintain such a high speed, especially if it uses by-passed coolant sea water as thrust, combined with drag reducing cavitation maintained by high temperature steam.

It could be that, but the fact of the matter is that we have a better idea about the surface of the moon than we do of our own oceans, so more hydrographic ships is a good thing... mapping the ocean floor will be useful for navigation of UUVs of all types...

Actually I watch bits of those stupid american horror TV shows about a zombie apocalypse and I wonder why they try so hard to survive... modern human society offers a rather simple and easy life option... fighting every day to survive with dwindling resources where you are pretty much on your own and ultimately you are fucked... either they will get you by bad luck or you will get older and slower and they get you anyway...

That's why you need to keep population as much concentrated s possible. To ensure, security, laws to let it grow again. In NZ/Ausie/Chile/South Africa it might be possible.
With farming being able to provide food on XIX level you still can have cities, maintain scientific potential. You gonna loose much of todays tech until you rebuild population numbers (= science, engineering needs workhours outside farming ), but rediscovery with written texts cn go faster then you think.
