Thats why Russia needs to help Syrian Govt more actively including strengthening its base in Tartus and having more troops. But the main thing Russia needs to have is armed drones and help Syrian army to get them in their fight against western supported terrorists. Armed drones would be a great asset for the SAA in their fight against these international terrorist groups.Zivo wrote:magnumcromagnon wrote:And yet there's still people saying Russia should not deliver S-300's to Syria...
Send thousands of S-300's, ISIS will love to have them when they overrun the SAA's positions with their Toyota's.
Russia needs to bolster its military presence in Tartus and also help the entire Latakia and the western sector to be secured. They need to develope that into a full scale militay base with A-50, IL-38, S-300, Buk, Bastion etc...so that it not only help secure the Russian military presence in the Mediterranean but also help the Syrian defence forces from Isreali attacks on its territory in support of western funded/supported terrorists.
In my view stopping the MiG-29 deliveries to Syria was a mistake. Instead they shud have been delivered but instead based in Iran so that the squadrons could develop and mature and fly back home after the place is secured or when the need arise. They could in the meantime also have some flyover near the gulf states supporting the terrorists. Syria badly needs A-50 kind of assets in air and pr.11661 Gepard or much better pr.11356 frigates with 120Km range 9m96e2 to hinder the Isreali support for terroists.

Re: Syrian Civil War: News
I have different priority list for equipments to fight this bloody battle against terrorists.putinboss wrote:what assads army needs, is the T-90s with some BMP-3s, and putin should send the T-72b3 instead of the export monky versions, for the air force they need, are the su-25s,su-34,a few su-35s, and the su-27sm3s, all mig-29s need upgrade to smt level, if america gives israel all the top range stuff, then russia should give syria the same, I think russia owes syria after they striped the radars and ecm jammers on there mig-23s before the lebanon air war of 82,also every tank should be given shtora to stop the anti tank missile threat,
First in the list is armed drone - unfortunately the morons who could make this happen in Russia ignored developing that Sukhoi's Zond series drones and hence no real option from Russia. At least get decent numbers from Iran & China to fight the terrorists and help minimize SAA casualities. Attrition is the real enemy of SAA and Syrian people in this war. Too much precious lives and good people getting lost.
Second one tanks, but I don't want T-72 or T-90 with 125mm....SAA do not have to fight other tanks, what they need is demolishing terrorists in urban combat and for that I prefer a T-55MV6/T-72/90 with a 57 or 76mm cannon. In short a new well protected turret and turret basket for a single piece ammo.
For the threat from Israel and West in support of their terrorist buddies, Syria badly needs A-50, Buk, S-300 to secure its airspace and the means to affect affairs inside Isreali airspace.

For example, armenians modify some mtlbs by adding a 57 mm autocannon. Powerful and dirt cheap (quite vulnerable though)

Absolutely.
Russia needs to get UCAV's in service, and build a base for them in Tartus. It's a shame this hasn't been done yet.

Syrian Army Repels Attack on North Damascus Checkpoint - Source
A 15-minute encounter was precipitated by two attacks – one carried out by a suicide bomber and another via an explosive device installed on a motorcycle.
BEIRUT (Sputnik) — Syrian government forces repelled an attack on an army outpost in northern district of the capital Damascus, a source in the Syrian military said Monday.
"Every member of the armed group that attempted to attack a Syrian Army checkpoint in east Ruken Al Din in Damascus has been killed," the source told RIA Novosti.
The 15-minute encounter was precipitated by two rebel attacks – one carried out by a suicide bomber and another via an explosive device installed on a motorcycle – at the checkpoint guarding the management and logistics building.
Militants including Nusra Front fighters, al-Qaeda's affiliate in Syria, captured large areas of Jisr al-Shughour town in the northwest of the country, after days of fierce battles.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported six casualties in the twin explosions, including a wounded senior army officer.
The military source, however, repudiated the UK-based SOHR's report that a general in charge of the army's munitions and supply division sustained injuries.
The Syrian army has been involved in an armed conflict with several rebel and extremist groups since March 2011 in that has claimed over 220,000 lives, according to the United Nations.
None of the groups active in the country – including the Islamic State and the Nusra Front – has claimed responsibility for Monday's bombing attacks.

Hey friend, one minute !
Syria is face of the western world, and saudi tribe -for money-. At first it is not a simple war, there are highs, and lows. If terrorists captured some -empty of people- terroritories, it does not mean they are winning, and it is not the end of the world. In other side, strategic Calamoun areas are definitly lost by terrorists. Syria's army is far to be beaten, don't be pessimist. Moreover, Syria does not need russian's intervention, syrian army with its traditional allies are largely enough, like iranians, Hizbollah, most of the palestinians -it is important to underline-, and more and more free arabs cititizen are coming to help Syria in order to fight the terrorists. Russia is largely doing enough by providing syrian army what it is nesseceray.
Ryadh, is going to undergo many many tragic problems, as its war against Yemen is turning to the disaster. Now, Yemen' army is able to penetrate deeply inside Saudi's territories. At this point, the money will lack, and the problems will start against Saudi Tribe. US are mulling to give up Ryadh in benefits to Teheran as Petraeus seems to say. Another point, Turkey is mulling to buy S-300, it means that Turkey seems to aspire to leave Nato, and to integrate OTSC. For the terrorists these are the end.
Hence, things are far to be lost in Syria, Russia did good jobs, as Iran, as Hizbollah. Those who trusted US, will be as usual, the joke of the turkey-the fowls, or end up the laughing stocks, the suckers-. Mwahahahahaha.

Palmyra has fallen to the salafist animals. Imagine all the historical sites.
Iran should of intervened a long time ago because the syrian army is overstreched and it seems only a time before the syrian regime is done.
Russia and Iran could of done so much more to prevent this. Being a western ally means your all always guaranteed victory being a russian ally means humiliation and defeat.

Really?
Because Currently Libya is enjoying its guaranteed victory like nobodies business, and Afghanistan and Iraq seem to have not enjoyed their guaranteed success and are looking to Russia for real support without interference.
Perhaps you might want to visit the paradise that is Haiti to see the glorious benefits an alliance with the US can bring?

So now I guess we wait for the first videos to appear of Palmyra being bulldozed and blown up. America and it's sycophants will scream and rage about this while at the same time scream about Assad and put more recources into defeating him. That they do this, and so create the conditions for barbarians like IS to thrive and destroy ancient sites will pass over their heads. Seems no limit to the hypocrisy and stupidity of Washington. But sometimes I wonder if they actually desire IS to do this destruction as, after all, America also is a country of religious fundamentalists who have no love for anything "Pagan". In August 2013, a year after el-Sisi had removed the Islamist Morsi, the Mallawi museum in middle Egypt was stormed by an Islamist mob. The security guards were killed and about 95% of all the artifacts on display were destroyed, even the mummies were burnt. At a lower level, this barbarism continues in Egypt and local site storerooms, magazines they are called, still get looted. It seems to becoming a regular occurance that mummies are found burnt or ripped to pieces and the remains dumped in sewage as a deliberate insult to the dead, who of course were not Muslim. I thought el-Sisi was meant to stop this sort of thing happening, I thought the west would make an outcry, but silence, and the spider in the region sits and smiles.

Basically people and nations are easier to control when they don't have any roots or knowledge about themselves.

Exactly, people that have a past always have a future, destroy the past (culture, religion, history) you destroy their future meaning you can form it how you want it. That is the reason why education and scientific fields are controlled by private lobbies and invenstors, there are fields in science that are not allowed to be studied lot of them are in history, to keep history sealed and away from people.

You are too pessimistic.
Syrian Army never looked good on pictures.
The overall situation is not as bad as you think: While they have lost Palmyra and the Iraqi border, they are successfully cleaning up the border areas with Lebanon (Qalamoun mountains).
Situation for the Syrian Army and Assad looked a lot worse two years ago.
