Mike E wrote:"Generation" is a bad way of describing thermals, IMO. US labels the CITV as a "2nd gen FLIR", when it would be comparable to 4th gen thermals. Catherine-XP is labeled 3rd gen, but isn't really comparable to other ones like the ATTICA-M.

That being said, the T-14's thermal is probably around a "3++" generation. I suspect a bandwidth of 3-5/8-12 microns, zoom of at least x20, above-HD resolution, and digital zoom of probably x2.

Thanks for the explanation. For an advanced tank like the T-14 Armata nothing short of a '3rd generation' thermal system will suffice.

I don't doubt that can. One of the two Kazan thermals had rumored specifications that were second-to-none, and both should be ahead of the Catherines. The IBRIS-K and AGAT-MDT compare with those, I suspect the new ones to compete with the ATTICA-M-ER.

Sorry about that, mate I guess I just jumped in with something I thought was interesting without having read much of the relevant posts on the page that already addressed the matter. My reading is fine but I was admittedly being a bit of a skatterbrain. Embarassed

Excellent news. I know its not possible but I would love for Australia to purchase this tank in the future. Sadly Australia is too attached to the United States and our Prime Minister did say that he was going to 'shirtfront' Russia's President before withdrawing such undiplomatic language. cry

There was news and a photo report of (I believe) NPO Orion where they produced the thermal imaging matrix. Essentially, the development is in Russia and they make comoetitive products. Although, it is designed for Armata, my guess is it will be backwards compatible.

I am trying to find the article. It was on sdelanounas.ru and I think I posted it on mp.net prior to it closing.

Considering the layout seems very likely to be Armata indeed. Their doc is due to be out on 22'nd iirc. Btw, in case i have missed it; has there been any pictures of Armata in any other camo than the parade one?

In Kurganets doc Kurganets had really nice camo, hoping to see that on Armata.

I have seen that pic and that is just green PapaDragon. Thanks for the trailer link, best view of the engineering vehicle (T-16 iirc?) is at 0.23 and 0.24. No camoed Armata anywhere tho. Sad
