So it is fairly safe to say Russian tanks have the best firepower.
Too bad this is the only good thing about every single Russian tank in service.
Thoes T-14 Armatas are desperatly needed.
Because the thing looses speed after going trough half a metre of armor.
And i said it is "supposed" to do this, not that it always does it.
Most DU rounds burn and turn partly into dust, after the hit something hard.
Even with this difference in the data, russian rounds seems to be better and they are bigger and faser. So they have much better shells than nato if we compare at 50% of the round penetration.
Is it true ?
Depends on who is running the test and their goals.
A manufacturer wants their products to look good.
The Soviet military wants products that perform well in combat and get the job done.
A western test might have the goal of getting a 1m penetration benchmark result.
A Russian test is more interested in being able to penetrate known threats on the battlefield...
Russian win for both case. 80% of the shell going inside is much more difficult to obtain than 50% but still the numbers are the same. If russian givr the penetration for 50% they would end up having much better result.
http://vestnik-rm.ru/news-4-24204.htmRussian designers are working on a prospective 3rd-generation tank rocket, which will operate on the principle of "shot-forget." Similarly, the American "Javelin." Information about this is posted on the blog andrei-bt.
Referring to the published scientific materials, the author of the blog concludes that Russia is working on a new version of the tank rocket. It will have exceptional characteristics. Including will have the ability to homing and hitting ground objects in the weakly protected upper hemisphere. It will also be possible to destroy and low-speed air targets.
At present, Russia is lagging behind in developing anti-tank missiles of the third generation. However, as military experts are sure, in the near future such a backlog will be eliminated.
The other day it became known that the heads of homing for new anti-tank complexes began to create and Ukrainian designers. True, they are at the very beginning of such works.

Note about his comment on anti tank missiles of Russia being behind in the game. Well, so far, Russia's atgm's cause the most harm to American supreme or German vunderwaff tanks.

A range of 5 to 10 km should be possible. To use a guided missile from the gun against a helicopter is "common" practice even for T-72´s.

You mean like on that one North Korean tank?

Not missiles but explosive shells with a fuze like in WWII but with today's technology. The range should be higher than when engaging ground targets.

Nice. Adding more workload to tank crew of 3. Seriously have you ever been in a tank . There are many great ideas of all-in-Wonder combat machines, but none ever worked, guess why.

Yes that's why I said it's faster to launch an IglaS than launch an atgm that you have to guide until it hits something at slow speed.
Atgm wirk against slow moving helicopters only and the laser can be seen by the helicopter' sensors.

and will you be the one to volunteer in heat of battle to stay on Armata vhassis and aim with Igla? Idea of new one is to shoot and forget. No need to ride laser-beam anymore.
