What has happened to GarryB?
What has happened to Garry B? His last visit was on May 26, 2018. Do any members on here know what has happened to him or is he doing a special project? He usually post often on here and I miss his insights and commentary. I do believe he is a favorite by many on this board;has he died in New Zealand or has a serious illness which has prevented him from posting?

Re: What has happened to GarryB?
Hi guys... sorry for disappearing like that.
I spend a lot of time on this forum... quite a few hours a day... and much of that time it is making sure you guys behave rather than furthering my interests or having discussions I enjoy... so when my graphics card died and my computer would not even boot up I was going to leave it for a week or so...
After a week I couldn't believe how much extra time I had... so I left it a bit longer.
Sorry again... I did miss many of you, but others... who I don't really understand why they come here... I didn't miss much at all.
I will try to manage better my time here so I don't feel the need for a break...

Welcome back GarryB.
In that case I believe this forum needs more Moderators. Perhaps roping in a few old timers who have traditionally displayed good behaviour should address this issue.

For Christ's sake find a way to spend more time away from here, your sanity probably needs it. Just tell everyone what's up so we don't worry. The site seems to have chugged along OK without you.

Doesn't matter.
They fucking suck at their job. This site has been ruined by retards like Kimmpis, KiloGolf, Militarov and PApa as they flood this site with their inane bullshit and false equivalencies.
Example:
Read what they actually say. Its all nothing. Its just junk.

Papa, Militarov and Kimmpis are good posters. They get riled by some things, as much as anyone else. I think everyone could do with getting a little less emotionally attached to the subject matter. Refrain from taking Kilo's bait, as it's quite obvious that he's just looking for a kneejerk reaction most of the time. His geopolitical knowledge is rather boomer-esque and not worth the time imo.
The Russian space industry isn't going to disappear. The Russian navy isn't going to disappear. There will be restructuring and lessons learnt if and when mistakes are made. Yeah, some may seem obviously avoidable to us on the outside, but to be frank, most of what Russia does isn't very predictable, both for its detractors and advocates.
I honestly didn't see anyone predict cruise missiles with near infinite range, air launched hypersonic AShMs, the potential of what we now know as Poseidon, and supposedly quite capable weaponized lasers, so everyone should just chill out and let actual hard results do the talking, when we have them. Speculation is just that, at the end of the day.
Also, threadly reminder that time is on Russia's side in all this. Simply look at the state of the political and societal discord in the States and Europe...

As opposed to your deep geopolitical knowledge of 'everything'.
I say some folks here need to drop the whole snowflake approach to all things they disagree.

Don't think I've ever claimed to know everything to do with geopolitics. Looks like the snowflake here might be the one slightly triggered by my insinuating that his analyses are boomer tier. Which they are, according to my observation of similar boomer posting.KiloGolf wrote:OminousSpudd wrote:Refrain from taking Kilo's bait, as it's quite obvious that he's just looking for a kneejerk reaction most of the time. Not need to project mate. You people just don't like diversity of opinion, otherwise you'd welcome challenging strοnkism.

Re: What has happened to GarryB?
Actually, we in the West wouldn't be in this predicament if it wasn't for the fact that diversity of opinion is no longer tolerated. Trust me, I know that freedom of speech is imperative to national survival (it's the reason that I don't mute anyone here... well, accept for some who tend to go overboard on the consecutive posting) My point is that many of your posts seem pointless, purposely stirring the pot for no good reason, and even when presented with a rebuttal, you just move on to something else. They seem to be bait, often the claim or the sentence is so silly that it only serves to annoy rather than provide anything constructive. Using sources that are not exemplary by any stretch, or sticking to narratives that are mainly bias rather than objective reasoning. It seems to me that you get a kick out of derailing conversation. I'm not excusing the behavior that your posts are often responded with, that tend to only further send the discussion down the sink, but the fact of the matter is that this is a forum dedicated to Russian military matters and geopolitical topics that (majority of the time) involve Russia, hence the accepted norm is that the majority of us are advocates of Russia and thereby naturally skeptical of U.S. or Western portrayals/opinions of Russia/Russian equipment etc. etc.KiloGolf wrote:Not need to project mate. What I'm trying to get at is that taking Western dogma and presenting it here as an attempt to perhaps "balance the conversation" is never going to end up being constructive. Debunking the same talking points over and over is not helpful and quickly turns into what might be perceived as trolling, and therefore nets the result one might expect. It's like going to F-16.net and just posting Sputnik/RT articles over and over and over again and expecting a different result. It's funny, but not really conducive to a good discussion.
In saying this, I do think KVS and miketheterrible also go ridiculously overboard in their stronkism, and are far too attached emotionally to the subject matter most of the time.
Anyway, there's a full-blown statement, and probably what I should've written in the first place but wasn't really invested enough to. I'll just go back to lurking now.

Try it... pretty much any pro western forum, if you say anything good about Putin or bad about whomever they worship (the left or the right... there are no other options in the west... well that is not true the left and the right are actually liberal and conservative with enormous overlap in a lot of areas) and you will be immediately banned... yes... censorship!!!!
Here you might get a bit of abuse.
Neither is conducive to a good discussion, but both parties actually need to want a discussion and that is the problem.
Russia needs to build 1,000 destroyers NOW, and 250 Su-57s, and why aren't they on Mars yet building farms and expanding off this blue green rock.
In saying this, I do think KVS and miketheterrible also go ridiculously overboard in their stronkism, and are far too attached emotionally to the subject matter most of the time.
I don't see them going to the NATO sections and bitching very much, while certain members seem to delight in repeating over and over the same crap.
Lack of patience with morons is rather more common human nature... this touchy feeling respect every ones rights and love everyones right to be a dumb fuck is not universally accepted.
Any fisherman will tell you baiting works... that is how you get fish meals.
In becoming a member you all agreed not to abuse other members, but when you all agreed, you all also expected trolls and flamebaiters would be dealt with.
Perhaps I need to be harder on members who provoke?

If I had all the answers do you think I would be here doing this?
I would be on my Yacht... sipping expensive booze with a stunningly beautiful empty headed bimbo on my knee.

Re: What has happened to GarryB?
Just my two cents...
it is great having you around for good discussions and moderation, but doing anything every day and devoting so much time can suck anyone's motivation and fun completely dry. So please do whatever you need to find the right balance man, but don't burn yourself out!

What happened to mutually respecting opposing views? As a mod and a Russian American the First Amendment applies here. If you can't handle opposing views, well then this forum ain't for you.
